My problem is that I've always LOVED everything! There was never a course that didn't make me feel like I was high on life! I still think of myself as a Philosophy & Psychology major at heart. That's never changed and I don't think it ever will. But I'm currently focusing on Mathematics just because it exists *everywhere* and it's in *everything!* I really appreciate every subject, but I just so happen to identify a bit more with some while still feeling that Math is just *central* to all of it!
If you are good at everything, you could do a double major of math and some engineering. While, in your spare time you can read philosophy and psychology books (you can get used books really cheap). That's my personal thinking because I believe that people who are smart and talented should do major in difficult and high paying jobs. While in my case I'm considering dropping from engineering because I think that I am not smart enough to do it.
I wish I had that problem! I'm a math major atm but I'm concerned if I decide I can't complete my math degree program, then there's really nothing else I want to major in (because I don't know what else there is I'm good at that also provides good financial security). Worst case scenario, I drop out and pursue a trades. Really hoping it doesn't get to that point; but this math structures course is kicking my ass. I'm hoping it's just because classes are all online and I'm a better student in a physical environment.

I dedicated several hours per day every single fucking day to improve myself...and you know what, I'm about to finish undergraduate in mathematics and finally I can say that I love it. I m learning english language and it helped me a lot to understand math. A heartful thank you to you, Bro . This kind of videos are absolutely neccesary. I love your channel and the great stuff you do. Keep it up!
You could also mention that many majors share much between them, the STEM in particular have a good chunk of material that is common between them, it's not like someone who likes physics but majors in mechanical engineering would dislike it.
This video came at a real coincidental time. I'm currently a ChemE major and over the past week I've really disliked my computer courses. I've thought about going chem or math because of how much I'm not enjoying the computer courses. However, I don't have to take that many so this video really helped me put that into perspective. Even though I'm not enjoying a couple classes doesn't mean I should change. Thanks, almighty Math Sorcerer!
Yeah definitely! No matter what major you do, usually most people will find some classes they just don't like! The same is true with jobs, no matter what job you get, there will always be some negative aspects. As Jeff Bezos says, "if you can find something you enjoy at least 50% of the time, that's really great" I kind of agree, but I think it's better to aim for more than 50%:)
If you couldn't have gone into Mathematics, what would you have studied instead? My favorite Philosophy Professor told me he'd have gone into History, which makes sense because of his passion for political theory. I'm still just trying to study everything I can. Great disciplines feel too much like my own children; I could never choose just one of them over the others. But if my college didn't have Philosophy, Psychology or Mathematics, I'd probably have chosen something like World Literature or Linguistics.
Back then I would have chosen Computer science. Today hmmm, not sure, maybe computer science still. It's hard to imagine doing it all over again and not doing math, love math❤️
Thankfully some schools let us double and triple major, and there's always grad school, post-docs and lifelong learning! *Life is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary!!!*
You should make a video called "Should You Change Your Career" since I'm on the edge because I haven't really been enjoying my career in public accounting. I've invested a lot of time too and I'm even a licensed CPA in the state of Florida. I just don't feel the work I do is rewarding. I've always enjoyed studying mathematics back when I was in high school and the last class I took was AP Calculus AB. I did pass the class overall with a B, but I failed the placement test so that's why I ended up as an Accounting major. It's just one of those things that creeps on the back of my mind like what if I had majored and studied math instead. How far could I have gone and where would I be if I did? Maybe I would've been a teacher. Originally, I wanted to major in Computer Engineering, but studying math itself would be way more interesting. I've always wanted to be a mathematician and share my love of math and even discover new ideas of my own that I hope would be worthy to be published. I know it's not an easy major, but I don't mind the challenge of it either.
4 years late but as someone who had parents that wanted me to get into nursing, i remember feeling absolutely distraught from the classes I took because they were all sciences. Pathophsiology and pharmacology kicked my butt so hard that I legit get stressed from reading even a single page of those books. Hell, those classes on top of clinicals made the stress even worse. Everytime I drove to the hospital, I just felt DISTRAUGHT of how much stuff you need to know because obviously you need to make sure your patient is alive and slightly better than they were before they got admitted to the hospital. To anyone who is feeling stressed from your classes and questioning if this is the right for you and you are ABSOLUTELY sure that the major may not be for you, change majors.

Hey Math Sorcerer, I've watched every single one of your lectures from Calc 1 to calc 2. I absolutely love them..and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting those up on youtube for free. In fact, your lectures have made me develop a passion for mathematics. However, I tend to forget how to solve a problem once I haven't been in touch with the subject for a week or two. It's quite frustrating sometimes..like I've just done the problem, and a week after that, I go to solve it again, but the way to solve it just doesn't come to my head. Am I making a mistake somewhere? Am I rote learning maths?? or is it that maths is a subject that requires you to give it attention every day? Math is one of those things where if you don't use it, you lose it, well, you lose a lot of it:) The good thing is that it does come back when you refresh, and it tends to come back stronger. I think it helps to continue with "some math" always. Like say you study linear algebra, but then don't do it for a while, but instead work on other math. Well when you go back to linear algebra and refresh you will be just so much stronger, and I think it's because you have been doing other math, so you learn different skills and thought patterns that you can apply when you revisit the old stuff. I notice this with teaching. Because I am constantly doing math when I go back and refresh old math it tends to come back even stronger. I get a different perspective on stuff I learned years ago. I tell myself math is a lifelong journey, we just learn, and enjoy it, and over time, we just get stronger:)
