- Today on the WorkBench I am working on the 1974 AMC Gremlin X "The Mini-Muscle Car" by AMT. This is a tribute build for a family member who had a car like this way, way back and I thought that it would be great if I could duplicate her car. I think that I got it pretty close considering I was working from 40 year old memories of a car long gone.
This actually was a very easy build and went together with zero issues. If you get a chance to build one of these I recommend that you pick one up and start your very own build.
I hope that you enjoyed watching this video as much as I did building the kit.

I usually am not a commenter, as I’m usually watching and listening on my tv, but now I must comment. I enjoy your work and content very much, as you build basically out of the box. This gremlin looks great, perfect color choice. I also very much enjoy the soundtrack you provide, particularly when I hear just a sin away in there, always catches my attention. Thanks for sharing your work and your talent with us.
Thank you for the kind words. I am happy to hear that you enjoy my content and I hope that you can pick up a trick or two along the way. The Gremlin, as you may already know, is a tribute build of a car that my sister-in-law once owned. The color was custom mixed by me because I couldn't find the correct paint from anywhere. So, Thank you again. The soundtrack that I include in my videos is provided by TH-cam for their creators to use in the videos. I have a set number of tracks that I use in my videos but try to mix them up a bit so that I am not playing the same music in each video. Although, there are some that get more repeats than others. Thank you for watching and commenting on my videos.
This turned out great! My parents had an orange one with a white pinstripe. They bought it new in 71 and I remember it growing up.
They drove it until 80 or 81 when a drunk driver hit it parked in front of our house in Nashville.
These were unusual but pretty amazing cars. It's a shame that AMC wasn't able to compete in the automotive world. They had some cool approaches to automobile design including the Pacer. My personal favorite was the Javelin followed by the Hornet. Sorry to hear that your parents lost their Gremlin. This was a tribute build to my sister-in-law who had one that was the same color and stripe.
That turned out great, what a cool color that is. Thanks for sharing your work
Thank you! Acrylic craft paint is the reason why I love using an airbrush. You can easily create a custom color from the plethora of colors available and do it on the cheap. Thanks for watching!
Looks amazing thank you for sharing
Thank You!
Very nice build like the colors.
Thank You!
Awesome build, great job 👍😎
Thank You!
Awesome job. Color choice 👍👍.👏👏🏆🏆🤝
Thank you! This is why I like shooting craft paints, you can custom mix your own colors.
Good looking build. I'd like to build one of these and either pimp it out or resto-mod it.
Thank You! This kit does have a few options in the kit and has a lot of potential for being as radical as you want it to be. Thanks for watching!
Awesome build!!
Thank You!
Your welcome!! @@scaleautoguysworkbench
Great colors !
AMC engines were a bluish green or teal color.
The problem with trying to research something this old is that it is difficult to find accurate information on certain subjects. Especially, due to time and restorations, details on proper colors and such is not always accurate. It also has a lot to do with what color paints that I have at my disposal when I build. I try to get engine colors and the like as close to accurate as I can but sometimes I miss the mark. Thanks for the information and for watching!
Cats were mandated in 1974.
According to the Clean Air Act of 1970 and the Evolution of the Catalytic Converter. The Clean Air Act of 1970 required all cars after the year 1975 to be equipped with a catalytic converter. My first car (1975 Plymouth Fury) was the first year that had the converter.
@@scaleautoguysworkbench My 1974 monte Carlo had a converter.....some cars came with them in 1974, but not all
