Yep it’s 10 from truck, 100 from truck then 100 from triangle. Also, one dude is correct, furthest one out goes to inside of shoulder. Middle one goes middle of shoulder and closest one to truck goes on or near rumble strip. That’s to help guide people to move around you.

Hey Dave just a tip from someone that works on the side of interstates. Never put your back to traffic walk around the passenger side of the truck and if you need to be on the driver side walk facing traffic so you can see what's happening
YOU GOT IT Dave, I've blown a steer tire on a dump truck loaded with 20 tons of stone. Just remember, "REMAIN CALM", I had oncoming traffic on the left side, and a drop off into the lake on the other side - NO PLACE to go, and a 3 ft wide shoulder. Just let off the throttle, pump the brakes occasionally, and hang on the steering wheel. You will be fine, and will come to a SAFE stop eventually. Sure lots of smoke and noise from the tire hitting that front fender, lots of brake smoke, all ended well. Fenders are replaceable, people are not.

I work for a car manufacture and for some of our driver training we have to do blowout test with a pickup truck. It has a big air tank in the bed and a system that can release air from the tire to simulate a blowout, and also air it back up in motion. We're always told that if a front tire blows out, to hit the accelerator.

I always travel to the nearest truckstop or exit ramp so the mechanic is not put at risk the only time I never drove anywhere on a blowout was when my steer blew.
A little advice dave! If there is no damage to the mud flap or nothing jamed up to keep you from moving you can ease down the road st about 50 mph or so with your 4 ways on and try to get to a truck stop or possibly your delivery spot in dtead of sitting there for hours on the side pf the road Done that many times in my 43 year career and made it to my delivery then called it in.

I had my first blowout April this year. There was a rest area close enough that I could roll in there to give the tire guy a safer place to work. Then the next day my reefer blew up spewing fluid all over the back of my truck during the DOT blitz week.
I’ve had a steer blowout in Bakersfield, CA going 55mph. I just gently let off the throttle and coasted it to the shoulder but I was wrestling with the wheel. It was a stressful experience with all that traffic.
Honestly I don't know anything about where the caution triangles are supposed to be but what you said sounds about right.. it must suck blowing a tire but it's good that it happened at like 2-3am rather than like 5-6-7am where it could of been worse from the debris from the tire. The only thing that matters is that you're ok Dave! But anyway, another entertaining video as always
I was about 1/8th of a mile behind a truck that had a blowout. Scared the crap out of me it was so loud. I wasn't sure what had happened until I saw the debris it left in the road.
Hey Dave. That sucks that the tire blew. Glad it was a trailer-tire tho. Hey, ive got a question for all you truckers out there...What percentage of trucks on the road are automatics (as opposed to "standard-"/manual-transmission)?
I've seen a far worse place to break down. Just after the merge on a short ramp. We had a bit of a scary moment when the driver stepped from in front of his truck just after my son had floored the car to avoid getting hit by traffic. The driver was able to jump out of the way.

The far left lane at the 65/24 jct is the best in that situation you can still get to 65/40 just loop around the front of downtown Nashville and not the backside. Safe trucking

I appreciate you going back looking for big chunks of tire. About 20 years ago I was driving across South Dakota in a 1998 Subaru Outback station wagon about 2AM and there was an entire big circle of a retread laying right in the middle of my lane. It was so dark out that I didn't see it until it was too late and I completely straddled it. I pulled off the side expecting the whole bottom of the car to be messed up but all it ended up doing is wipe the dirt off my oil pan. That car was pretty high up and also built like a tank.
I had a tire blow out on my buick century yes I know its not a cmv or trailer tire but when the tire blew out torn up the inside cowl plastic covering I was on the side of the road and I believe an off duty sherriff was driving buy and he was amazed I maintained control not flipped it but he was nice of enough to help clean the area up mostly puting the cowel from the inside of my wheel well.. but I was able to but the spare on and got everything fixed this happened a couple years ago.
Couple days ago I was driving to work, and passed a truck that was missing the outside dually on the driver's side. And when I say missing, I mean there wasn't a tire there at all
I only had one blow on me while doing OTR with CFI... now that I'm local... I don't know what it is... but I've blown three tires...all are mostly because cruddy retreads suck... then our shop does unsafe practices where they'll take the nail/object out and call it good 'nough... which clearly is unsafe and now I'm pushing back at my yard for them to replace tires (if I find someone in the tire during pre/post trip, I tell them, replace the tire, not fix the tire; replace it) My first ever blowout while at CFI - I didn't hear anything - just saw smoke, sparks.. ever tire since - those I've heard - sucks double when you suck in the mudflap and mudflap hanger..
I've been behind a tractor trailer rig when a trailer tire came apart. The handful of cars scattered. That driver just kept going. I tried to warn a driver about a passenger side steer tire about to blow. Fortunately for all he kept it in his lane.
Let me tell you how I would have handled this. If the tire wasn’t blown and you just lost the Cap. Look at your phone and see how far away a truck stop is that fixes Tires. Loves, T/A etc. If its not far I would have rolled onto the truck stop and got it fixed there instead of sitting on the side of the Road putting myself in jeopardy of being hit. Even if the Tire was blown and not sitting on the Rim you can still drive to a truck stop and get it fixed. Ive been driving for 25 years and I will do everything I can not to sit on the side of the road waiting sometimes many hours for someone to come and fix it when I could have just rolled on it 20 miles to a tire shop.
Dave you look silly walking down the side of the High way, at 3AM, talking to yourself. Everyone thinks your crazy. 🤣
I’m definitely limping to the exit ramp. That extra space can be a lifesaver.
I keep my triangles on the passenger side. Too many drunks, kids on cell phones, and super truckers half asleep for me to stand that close to a travel lane. Glad it worked out for you tho man.
That's my worse nightmare when I have to tow a truck with a automatic. You have to crawl under the truck to pull the drive shaft
I wish I could but the Freightliner I've got doesn't have a side box accessible on the passenger side

I miss approaching the Nashville skyline.
We were in my grandpas pickup and the front driver side tire blew up made a loud bang sounded like a rifel or something
Tennessee law, all vehicles must mover over for ANY vehicle on the shoulder.
If safe to do so. That's a really big IF in busy traffic.
Couple days ago I was driving to work, and passed a truck that was missing the outside dually on the driver's side. And when I say missing, I mean there wasn't a tire there at all
Do you not have the equivalent of the UKs National Highways Agency in the US? They will clean up any blow out debris if its dangerous.
Did you check the tire when he finished replacing it?
Hey dave. Love your videos. I used to do business with weems brothers seafood out of biloxi.
I think what you call cap, we call retreads in australia
My trainer told me if the trailer tires and drive tires blow, it’s up to me to either stay where I’m at or limp to a truck stop or somewhere safe
Get the yard stick 😂😂😂
i hope you got your triangles before you left the scene
During a long wait like this, do you have a chance to try and catch some Z's or would that be frowned upon? Or would it not be helpful?
I only had one blow on me while doing OTR with CFI... now that I'm local... I don't know what it is... but I've blown three tires...all are mostly because cruddy retreads suck... then our shop does unsafe practices where they'll take the nail/object out and call it good 'nough... which clearly is unsafe and now I'm pushing back at my yard for them to replace tires (if I find someone in the tire during pre/post trip, I tell them, replace the tire, not fix the tire; replace it)
My first ever blowout while at CFI - I didn't hear anything - just saw smoke, sparks.. ever tire since - those I've heard - sucks double when you suck in the mudflap and mudflap hanger..
Had a recap blow on me today! Sounded like a gun went off busted the plastic mid flap on the freightliner cascadia. It made my butt pucker
what is the minimum age that you can buy a semi?
