ghetto bike? buddy, that's the nicest ghetto bike i've seen! The only way you could make that thing better imo is replacing your fenders with fiberglass and a new front end.
Riding this bike always makes me feel like I won the big game or scored the most goals or something. And it cost less than a month of debauchery. Less than a week’s worth of hooliganism for some.
It's a good looking bike with a great concept. Given the size of your fairing elements, it would be very easy to design and cast your own carbon fiber molds if you were willing to put in the time. Plenty of how-to videos on that, which tend to begin with shaping contours from stacks of wood/plywood, then creating a mold which you will use to layer up your carbon fiber and epoxy. It's also extremely viable to insert bracket tabs into the carbon fiber as you cast it, making easy work of positioning mounting points where you need them.
Naw it's perfect buddy it is the coolest looking motorized bike I've seen on the Internet man. at least for homemade that is I do agree with the other guy though now that you got the template what stop and you're from trying to try your hand at fiberglass you obviously got creative talent
I love the look of the bike, but I’m a bit of a purist, I’d rather have a pushbike, or a motorcycle, but, I’ve been a little bit keen on building a vintage style bike with a motor and making it look somewhat like the original ones from the early 1900’s. One day I might get around to it.
Sure is smooth. I like the whine the bike makes as it climbs up. Somewhere between the formula I use for break-ins, setups and the body work, this bike always seems to have a nice smooth tone no matter what engine’s in it.
I have a Huffy one speed, coaster brake, and a silver stallion 66cc gasbike kit. I looks great. I'll have to ride it ,after I outfit it like a Swiss Army ,Mountain Bike. 😊 ❤
very nice. i tried my hand at installing an engine onto a frame and learning it is a very frustrating ordeal for me to even work on an engine. this is a matter that requires patience that i don't have. but looks like you have found the patience for it 👏
Sometimes it takes patience, but most of the time I’m driven by a passion that makes all the laborious parts seem like something I want to do. It’s fun!

For lighting & phone charging, you could use a 12V bottle dynamo/generator that spins on the side of the tire. Forgetting that I could use a 12V one for a phone charger... I bought the 6V $15 dynamo kit instead.... But surprisingly the generator head has survived lots of use so far, spinning at 30+ mph. In summer & below freezing winter temps.....The Kit came with headlight/taillight but dim, Incandescent bulbs. I did a led headlight bulb conversion using a free 🔦 flashlight led bulb. (You can buy E10 led 6v & 12v screw in conversion bulbs though) So now the combination of the dynamo headlight & common rechargeable bicycle handlebar mount headlight is enough light to safely go 30 mph on dark country roads & see/avoid potholes. Before 1 light let drives see me but wasn't bright 🔆 & safe enough to see road hazards. Had I got the 12V generator, I could have later made or bought the USB phone charger kit. It could also recharge the headlight & tailight. I use the usb rechargeable head & taillight most of the time & if it goes dead while riding switch to generator powered lights, until I recharge. Another reason why I like the velomobile idea is lights 🚥 turn signals & a radio. You could dash mount your phone or tablet. Imagine a gas or electric velomobile that could cruise 55mph on hwy but sip fuel & enough for groceries. I'd be happy with cruising 35 on backroads but 55mph would actually be safer to keep with the flow of traffic when you get stuck on narrow roads with no shoulder.
It works that well, huh? See now that would be exactly what I need. Something rugged and simple, no batteries, and bright enough for country road night rides. I’m a little surprised to read that the dynamo has lasted so long, and especially considering the 30+mph part. Dunno why I never thought of the LED mod. Seems like the obvious thing now that I hear it. Because you can get LED’s that could handle the high rpm extra voltage, or use a voltage regulator. Hm. Ok, what about the sturdiness of the mount for the dynamo? Solid after a bunch of miles, or did it have to be repositioned every now and then? Also what about tire wear? And I’m also curious about the friction, I doubt you’d hardly notice it, but these things are already no fun to pedal. So many questions.
@@OrneryMouse The 6V kit is surprisingly good quality for only $15....It's a moving part so generator bearings not gonna last forever but surprised it held up to high speeds for over a year so far, even riding in wet & snow... I've done several 40mph top speed runs with no issues...& no issues cruising at 20-30 mph for miles. The mounting brackets are cheap but haven't slipped, zero bracket mounting issues. I did need to get a longer bolt to mount onto front fork. I had some issues with generator head slipping on side of tire but 2 wraps of tape & 2 drops of superglue fixed it. 1 drop at start & drop on tape end. Some bike tires come with grooves in the sidewall (or used to) made specifically for bottle generators. I can't remember what tape I used but it stopped the slipping.I think it might have been the stretchy self sticking silicone tape.. I'm pretty sure the 12V with metal grooved roller will grip better.....With the engine chain drag I don't notice any generator drag when I pedal....Obviously the lights go out when you stop but if someone doesn't wanna mess with a $30 rechargeable clip on head/tailight kit. I think a 12V kit with E10 led bulbs would be just as bright or brighter than $30 lower lumen clip on. I haven't tried 12V led generator so on a pitch black country road you might need more lumens. But the $30 clip on isn't bright enough at 30mph on dark road either .... If you're broke, you could probably rebuild the generator head with $2 worth of alibaba bearings. I know the old school ones were rebuildable. I thought the 6v $15 ebay China kit would break after a couple months coz higher speeds but IMO is well worth $15 plus extra $8 or $10 for 2 E10 led 💡bulbs.... Had I known it'd last I would have spent more for the 12V kit with metal roller. Other people have made little diy 6 & 12v rechargeable battery packs that the dynamo can charge. I think you can buy a pre made pack & on/off switch....The $250 hub generators are way too expensive for me. But probably do last a long time.....I'm not sure which I'd choose if I could only go with cheap dynamo or cheap clip on lights. But the combination has worked great.. I've been now trying to conserve generator life & only use when I need extra light or the clip on battery light goes dead. Once the generator dies I'm for sure getting a rebuildable 12V generator. One idea I had for a motorized bicycle kit was a combination of chain tensioner/12V generator. It'd be like the engine mount spring loaded chain tensioner with gear instead of roller. The gear would be connected to generator.

@@OrneryMouse My 2 favorite ideas are a small light quickly removable battery pack like a cordless drill that only takes a second to remove, bring inside & put on charger. That could run bright headlight & tail light & recharge phone if needed while out riding......Or favoite idea: 12V bottle generator E10 led bulbs kit, then later add small lightweight rechargeable battery pack (& phone charger) to it, that can be charged on board by the generator or pulled off & charged 🔌 inside. If I forget the battery at home., I still have generator lights or charge phone off generator.

You could probably take the foam fairing off & use as the mold for a fiberglass fairing. Tape a plastic cover over the foam then fiberglass it, similar to diy motorcycle seat fairings. I seen some cool diy boat building videos out of Thailand. Guy would build boats out of mostly scrap parts. He made some from scratch using foam & fiberglass. Like a diy motorized surfboard. One guy used a scooter 🛵 & built a partially enclosed sit in scooter. Similar to what I want. The solar powered clipper trike the Colorado guy built is like a mini RV but too slow & (I think) ugly for my taste. But he said he no longer has a truck payment, gas, insurance, high maintenance costs & is taking the monthly savings & investing it.
It’s very likely that someday I’ll fibreglass the bike, or do some kind of hard shell covering anyhow. But to be perfectly honest, I’m actually pretty ok with the body as is. I really mean it when I say it’s a ghetto bike so whatever’s whatever. It would definitely be cool to have a shiny hard body that painted nice and smooth, but I get a giggle out of the idea of riding a tiny $2 motorcycle that looks like a $5000 bike when it’s in motion.

Totally. It’s the best crappy pipe you can get for cheap. Sounds cool. Slightly better performance than stock. And despite it not being a proper expansion pipe in any way, there’s actually a few spots in the rpm range where some coincidental pulse waves actually reflect back at the right moment - if you’ve got the ports set up just right. To be honest, it’s basically a craps shoot for where you’ll find the power boost, but it’s there a little bit. Some day I’d like to chop the header and stinger off and switch them. The big pipe should be at the manifold, and the small diameter pipe at the end. The expansion chamber itself is a weird looking bit of silly nonsense, but it makes a nice exhaust note, and having the manifold and stinger setup properly would help a huge amount to capture any pulse waves that it makes.
It sure does! When I use the bike for errands I usually get trapped in long conversations with someone about the bike too. It’s kinda funny cause I usually say to myself, I’m taking the black sport bike because I want to be quick... ya it’s quick on the street but then if I park it and make eye contact with someone....

Is it hard to ride? Where did ya get it? How much was it? 😁😁. I don't mind tho cause it is really cool and fun, not only that if me talking to them can get them into the hobby then it's another person added to the motorized bike community. And the crazy part is I'm almost 50😁 I work on small engines and have some Briggs 3hp and 5hp engines laying around, I was thinking of a way to put one of those on a bike but ended up with this one. Now that itch has been scratched. Now time to build a go cart
@@garyalensr It must be an age thing. I have more fun with these bikes than I did with any other bike I’ve ever owned. There were a couple of contenders though, like a 1983 KX125 and a 1974 DT175. Both two stoke power houses in a lightweight package. But these motorized bikes are soooo cheap and accessible, almost zero govmn’t interference and a complete hands on build hobby that gets you deep down in the guts of a bike. You gotta set up everything from seat position to brake calipers. Man, machine, oil and wrenches, and all on a shoestring budget. I love it.

I have built something similar using the parts from a kids Bmw 12v police ride on bike. The parts (some how!?) all seem to fit on my 20x4 fat tyre e bike! It has blue lights, siren, working dashboard, rear panniers, etc...all working with the 12v battery it came with. Only mistake I initially made was mounting the front fairing cowl to the handlebars. So had the arduous task of using 2 mop handles, gaffa tape, zip ties, and a lot of colorful language lol But it really does look exactly like a full size police motorbike and does 32 mph!
you need to play with your idler a bit, and get some jb weld exhaust wrap for that leak if you arent going to replace that exhaust with something to get a good seal back
@@OrneryMouse lol I blew the gasket on my exhaust today. New personal best of just shy of 50mph on a system that was built to top at around 20-25 on flat ground. She was purring today, and I made her purr to hard. lol. I'm torn between JB exhaust warpping it with their 1,1000F rated fibergass/JB weld compound wraps vs getting a flexible exhaust so I can run the exhaust in a more custom configuration. His name is Frankenstein though, and so I'm tempted to make him more Franken. ~3,500 miles strong.

@@TrueHelpTV Haha! To be honest I’ve never actually bought an exhaust gasket. Typically I’ll use the gasket that comes with the kit until it fails, then I switch to homemade paper gaskets. Yup, paper gaskets on the exhaust manifold. The trick is to cut it kinda wide so there’s overhang, then soak it in oil before installing. If the surfaces are smooth and mated well, that gasket will probably last longer than the piston rings.
I actually had a shift kit on it for a short while in the first year, but eventually I decided that it performed better without it, and had way less moving parts to fail. Still though, it would be nice if I had at least a 3 speed gearbox or something. Even with this untuned engine I’ll bet the proper gearing would get it up to 60mph without much trouble.

3/8” interlocking foam tile floor pads. Cheap. Light. Easy to cut, shape and glue. I find hot glue works better than contact cement. You can literally get everything you need at a good dollar store. Good luck!
You could use plastics like that, but it would be very limiting to how it looks and gets mounted. Plus my way is cheaper. I just picked up everything I need to make a full fairing body kit, and I only spent $40 cdn. If I get all fancy and do a 5 or 6 colour paint scheme, I might spend as much as $50. Plus I get to make it look exactly like how I want. I actually started out thinking about using plastics like that. But the total cost and huge amount of custom cutting and fitting to make it all fit together seemed a bit much. I’ll bet a motivated guy with an eye for detail and a clever brain might be able to pull that off. But me, I’m kinda like a kid in a mud puddle; it’s fun. Its dirty and rough, and fun!
Got it from Amazon for about $75 cdn. It came quick and was very well packaged. Zero flaws. It’s awesome. I used a heat gun to shrink the sides in a little, because it was too wide and looked a little funny. Also it came with no mounts, which was really no big deal because I had to custom fit it anyhow. And I did that in the simplest way I could think of.
Like the seat. Where can I find one? I have a Gary Fischer 29 inch mountain bike with, 29 inch wheels, 100 cc 2 stroke motor. Hydraulic disc front brake, caliper rear with 11 speeds on the Cassette. It will do 110 KPH. However I will not be caught on roads here as 60 KPH is the limit except for Intercontinental Highways 1 and 2. Where vehicles must be licensed I don't need a $2500 or more ticket nor expose my moped is faster than allowed. Also 60 KPH is about the top sane speed. With front but not rear suspension and Mountain bike tires made for a speed of 35 to 40 MPH. I am 76 and don't care for broken bones.

this is equivalent to a single surron ebike motor in a tesla car. I have a bt100 and its on a electra cruiser and looks like a custom Harley in the 20's....besides the rust.
This actually IS a surron ebike in a Tesla car. I just took off the extra wheels, shortened the frame and run a 25cc weed-whacker engine instead. Better on gas and scores way more with the girls than a Tesla.
That’s a difficult question to answer. Tons of factors determine the life of an engine. For me, the average life span of any given engine is about 5000 miles. At that point it’s on the second or third set of rings and the bottom end is likely going to need bearings and crank seals. Although really they’re never dead until you give up on them. I still use the first engine I ever bought, and it’s done at least 5000 miles. Properly installed, unmodified and gently used, I’d expect one of these engines to last closer to 10,000 miles, maybe even more if you get a good kit.
The frames is more than adequate to handle the minimal amount of torque that this motor could produce, it’s likely less than 3 horsepower. The top speed isn’t increased a massive amount, I’d assume 40mph which I’ve achieved on multiple pushbikes, from BMX going down giant hills, to road bikes on big long straights to mountain bikes, and they’ll definitely do that speed and more. There’s so many motorised bike kits out there running around and the motors will usually fail before the bicycle.
A valid concern. Aluminum frames are generally too weak for motorizing, and even a nice steel frame can break welds under certain conditions. For example, if the engine mounts and driveline aren’t setup straight and the rider is heavy, or if chain tension is too tight and the roads are rough, sideways torsion plus engine vibration can snap a weld or crack a tube. Motorized biking is an accessible hobby. Literally anybody able bodied can do it. But to do it safe you’ve got to think about the bike as if it were a little motorcycle. Nobody sane would ride a motorcycle with a cracked or weak frame, a loose engine mount, only one brake or no brakes at all, a loose gas tank, loose throttle grip, no kill switch.... but I’ve seen plenty of youtuber guys doing that stuff, and some even do all that stuff at once! So don’t do that. But if you’re looking for a practical hands-on full spectrum hobby that rewards you with soul filling ride experiences and a really nifty way of getting about for errands or commuting when the weather is good.... then you found it.
The cops told me to keep it under 50kmh in town. I ride geared up when I’m on this bike and it’s in perfect mechanical order, including headlights, taillight, brake lights and mirrors, and that all helps to keep them off my back. First time I got pulled over the cop was all frazzled because I had no lights at all when I passed him, and when he came up to pull me over he couldn’t even see me, and he almost RAN me over! Surprisingly he didn’t give me too hard of a time, and no ticket. He just said pedal home on the sidewalk and get lights right away. Next time I got pulled over for speeding, by the same cop. Again, surprisingly he didn’t give me too hard of a time, and no ticket. He explained to me that I need to be a better ambassador for efficiency vehicles riders. It was weird, I was really expecting a ticket that time, but instead he complimented me on keeping the bike well and riding with a full face helmet, but reminded me that all of the rules of the road still apply to me. I was flattered. Third time I got pulled over I was heading back into town and coming in at about 75kmh. By the end of the police interaction, there were three cruisers and 4 cops, all of them trying to find something wrong with my bike to justify a ticket. The best they could say was that my tail light probably wasn’t luminous enough. Again I went home on the bike, with no tickets. I think I’ve pushed my luck on that as far as I can though, so these days I actually (mostly) keep it under 50kmh in town.
ive been sticking to the old railway trail I peddle there and then turn on the motor. I just put on a speedo so I cant wait to see how fast it will go its a 69cc skyhawk and have had no issues so for with the set up thanks for the info @@OrneryMouse

See that windshield cuts down wind resistance, which makes for a smoother and more comfortable ride, slightly higher top speed, and much better gas mileage. Plus it forces you to move the handlebars down to mount it properly (or it doesn't look right), so you get a better ergonomic riding position. More weight on the front tire means better grip in corners and more braking command. Plus it looks cool too lol

Oh hey, THIS IS IMPORTANT It's made for a full size road bike, so it will be too wide and look silly on your bike at first. I used a heat gun to warm up the plastic to the point of flexing, then bound it tight with string to hold its new shape. I did it in stages because I was worried about wrecking it, so I shrunk it, test fitted, then shrunk again until it looked right. By the end it was about 4 inches less wide, which also made it several inches taller too. You're totally right bro, it DOES look good. And so can you.
Yes sir! I mostly treat them with respect and kindness because they’re autonomous and self aware like you and I... but truth is one time I buzzed a whole flock of them with a giant P-51 r/c airplane ‘cause the dang birds just wouldn’t leave the airfield and let us fly. When I got to the airfield that day, the whole club was there but nobody was flying! Then I noticed the geese. Hundreds of them. One old guy had a plane out in the field with a stalled engine, but he couldn’t get it back because the geese wouldn’t let him get close! So when I showed up, everybody cheered! “Did you bring the P-51???”. They hoped so, cause it was big and fast and loud and I always hotdogged that bird like a maverick in a one man air show. So I took off in the pits - which is normally a big no no, but the geese literally occupied the entire field so I had no choice - and I made 3 high speed runs right across the deck and scared the living shit right out of them. For reals, it was all over the field! And when I cut back for the last run, half the flock went right over the parking lot and crapped on almost everybody’s car. What a mess.
You know it’s weird man, after all this time it’s still only you and me and about 2 or 3 other guys who do any kind of original body stuff. Now I’m not knocking the style, but a bicycle with colour coordinated pedals and grips and a shiny paint job just doesn’t do it for me. Life insurance. To my knowledge no insurance company provides a specific policy for motorized bicycles. Always a good idea to say a little prayer before every ride too.

That’s kinda the idea. Well, more like the acceptable limit of poor quality. If you can’t see the flaws at 50ft, and it has an overall appealing look, then it’s a success. A ghetto success - which is a lot like a normal success, except that instead of saying “Alright! This is awesome!”, you go “Oops, oh dang it... uh... well I guess that’ll have to do. Doesn’t look too bad from back here anyways.”
Street legal in many places, but restricted. They’re efficiency vehicles, so they fall under the same legislation as electric bikes and trikes. It’s the future man. I burned less than 50L of gas all last year in 5 different bikes, and I ride whenever I feel like it. Which is a lot. Most car drivers burn 50L of gas in a few days. When it comes to environmental impact and carbon footprint, nothing on the road treads lighter than a well made gas bike. I see smug little road ragers bombing around in their SUV’s like they own the roads, squeezing us into curbs and using their 2000lbs wrecking ball vehicles to express displeasure when they have to slow down to the speed LIMIT, or feel inconvenienced in the slightest... and they say things like we shouldn’t be on the roads because WE’RE dangerous? Because our bikes pollute more? No, our bikes do not pollute more and mostly only endanger ourselves. Gas bikes are the future if you care about the planet. Gas bikes are the future if you want to slow down and just enjoy a ride. Ok ciao

@@PRH123 THAT’S what I’m talking about. We’re literally using ounces of gas to do the same trip that others burn gallons to drive. Most people probably use more gas just warming up their vehicle than I do running around all day.
3/8” interlocking foam floor tiles. Cheap. Not very durable, but cheap. Also it’s very cheap, and if I didn’t already mention, it’s super duper cheap. You can pick up a 6 pack of foam tiles and a bag of glue sticks at Walmart for about $40cdn. That should be enough to make a full fairing bike if you don’t waste too much.

Brake pads wear out and need to be replaced periodically, and that rear set is close to the end of it’s service life. If you find that funny, imagine the piston rings going up and down at 7000rpm... they also need to be replaced after a while! Hilarious, isn’t it?
Wannabe? I know it’s difficult for some people to understand, but this is a hobby. Fortunately, uncreative people can just buy a bike already built by someone else, and then you’ll feel good because you won’t stand out from the crowd in any way. Very safe.

It's definitely a niche in motorcycling. Hands on, mechanical aptitude required and top speeds of...... well they don't do top speeds.... or actually any speed at all really. Basically you just cruise at an average of 25-30mph and taste the pallette of local flying insects. And I like it .

Hm. I hadn’t really thought of that before, but now you’ve got me wondering if an av10 would fit in the chassis. Cause I could run a mid-drive slip clutch to the 103sp and have both meet at the junction sprocket. Probably get like 5hp from that alone, even if I use the av09. Interesting idea my friend. It's a good looking bike with a great concept.
Given the size of your fairing elements, it would be very easy to design and cast your own carbon fiber molds if you were willing to put in the time. Plenty of how-to videos on that, which tend to begin with shaping contours from stacks of wood/plywood, then creating a mold which you will use to layer up your carbon fiber and epoxy. It's also extremely viable to insert bracket tabs into the carbon fiber as you cast it, making easy work of positioning mounting points where you need them.

I love the look of the bike, but I’m a bit of a purist, I’d rather have a pushbike, or a motorcycle, but, I’ve been a little bit keen on building a vintage style bike with a motor and making it look somewhat like the original ones from the early 1900’s. One day I might get around to it.

Sure is smooth. I like the whine the bike makes as it climbs up. Somewhere between the formula I use for break-ins, setups and the body work, this bike always seems to have a nice smooth tone no matter what engine’s in it.
I have a Huffy one speed, coaster brake, and a silver stallion 66cc gasbike kit. I looks great. I'll have to ride it ,after I outfit it like a Swiss Army ,Mountain Bike. 😊 ❤

For lighting & phone charging, you could use a 12V bottle dynamo/generator that spins on the side of the tire.
Forgetting that I could use a 12V one for a phone charger... I bought the 6V $15 dynamo kit instead.... But surprisingly the generator head has survived lots of use so far, spinning at 30+ mph. In summer & below freezing winter temps.....The Kit came with headlight/taillight but dim, Incandescent bulbs.
I did a led headlight bulb conversion using a free 🔦 flashlight led bulb. (You can buy E10 led 6v & 12v screw in conversion bulbs though) So now the combination of the dynamo headlight & common rechargeable bicycle handlebar mount headlight is enough light to safely go 30 mph on dark country roads & see/avoid potholes. Before 1 light let drives see me but wasn't bright 🔆 & safe enough to see road hazards.
Had I got the 12V generator, I could have later made or bought the USB phone charger kit. It could also recharge the headlight & tailight.
I use the usb rechargeable head & taillight most of the time & if it goes dead while riding switch to generator powered lights, until I recharge.
Another reason why I like the velomobile idea is lights 🚥 turn signals & a radio. You could dash mount your phone or tablet.
Imagine a gas or electric velomobile that could cruise 55mph on hwy but sip fuel & enough for groceries. I'd be happy with cruising 35 on backroads but 55mph would actually be safer to keep with the flow of traffic when you get stuck on narrow roads with no shoulder.
It works that well, huh? See now that would be exactly what I need. Something rugged and simple, no batteries, and bright enough for country road night rides. I’m a little surprised to read that the dynamo has lasted so long, and especially considering the 30+mph part. Dunno why I never thought of the LED mod. Seems like the obvious thing now that I hear it. Because you can get LED’s that could handle the high rpm extra voltage, or use a voltage regulator. Hm.
Ok, what about the sturdiness of the mount for the dynamo? Solid after a bunch of miles, or did it have to be repositioned every now and then? Also what about tire wear? And I’m also curious about the friction, I doubt you’d hardly notice it, but these things are already no fun to pedal. So many questions.
@@OrneryMouse The 6V kit is surprisingly good quality for only $15....It's a moving part so generator bearings not gonna last forever but surprised it held up to high speeds for over a year so far, even riding in wet & snow... I've done several 40mph top speed runs with no issues...& no issues cruising at 20-30 mph for miles. The mounting brackets are cheap but haven't slipped, zero bracket mounting issues. I did need to get a longer bolt to mount onto front fork. I had some issues with generator head slipping on side of tire but 2 wraps of tape & 2 drops of superglue fixed it. 1 drop at start & drop on tape end. Some bike tires come with grooves in the sidewall (or used to) made specifically for bottle generators. I can't remember what tape I used but it stopped the slipping.I think it might have been the stretchy self sticking silicone tape.. I'm pretty sure the 12V with metal grooved roller will grip better.....With the engine chain drag I don't notice any generator drag when I pedal....Obviously the lights go out when you stop but if someone doesn't wanna mess with a $30 rechargeable clip on head/tailight kit. I think a 12V kit with E10 led bulbs would be just as bright or brighter than $30 lower lumen clip on. I haven't tried 12V led generator so on a pitch black country road you might need more lumens. But the $30 clip on isn't bright enough at 30mph on dark road either .... If you're broke, you could probably rebuild the generator head with $2 worth of alibaba bearings. I know the old school ones were rebuildable. I thought the 6v $15 ebay China kit would break after a couple months coz higher speeds but IMO is well worth $15 plus extra $8 or $10 for 2 E10 led 💡bulbs.... Had I known it'd last I would have spent more for the 12V kit with metal roller.
Other people have made little diy 6 & 12v rechargeable battery packs that the dynamo can charge. I think you can buy a pre made pack & on/off switch....The $250 hub generators are way too expensive for me. But probably do last a long time.....I'm not sure which I'd choose if I could only go with cheap dynamo or cheap clip on lights. But the combination has worked great.. I've been now trying to conserve generator life & only use when I need extra light or the clip on battery light goes dead. Once the generator dies I'm for sure getting a rebuildable 12V generator.
One idea I had for a motorized bicycle kit was a combination of chain tensioner/12V generator. It'd be like the engine mount spring loaded chain tensioner with gear instead of roller. The gear would be connected to generator.

@@OrneryMouse My 2 favorite ideas are a small light quickly removable battery pack like a cordless drill that only takes a second to remove, bring inside & put on charger. That could run bright headlight & tail light & recharge phone if needed while out riding......Or favoite idea: 12V bottle generator E10 led bulbs kit, then later add small lightweight rechargeable battery pack (& phone charger) to it, that can be charged on board by the generator or pulled off & charged 🔌 inside. If I forget the battery at home., I still have generator lights or charge phone off generator.
Nice build. A front disk brake would be a serious upgrade. An 8" disk would suit the performance level and speed.
Totally. A proper front suspension fork with a disk brake would be an expensive upgrade, but very worthwhile.

You could probably take the foam fairing off & use as the mold for a fiberglass fairing. Tape a plastic cover over the foam then fiberglass it, similar to diy motorcycle seat fairings.
I seen some cool diy boat building videos out of Thailand. Guy would build boats out of mostly scrap parts. He made some from scratch using foam & fiberglass. Like a diy motorized surfboard.
One guy used a scooter 🛵 & built a partially enclosed sit in scooter. Similar to what I want. The solar powered clipper trike the Colorado guy built is like a mini RV but too slow & (I think) ugly for my taste. But he said he no longer has a truck payment, gas, insurance, high maintenance costs & is taking the monthly savings & investing it.
It’s very likely that someday I’ll fibreglass the bike, or do some kind of hard shell covering anyhow. But to be perfectly honest, I’m actually pretty ok with the body as is. I really mean it when I say it’s a ghetto bike so whatever’s whatever. It would definitely be cool to have a shiny hard body that painted nice and smooth, but I get a giggle out of the idea of riding a tiny $2 motorcycle that looks like a $5000 bike when it’s in motion.

Totally. It’s the best crappy pipe you can get for cheap. Sounds cool. Slightly better performance than stock. And despite it not being a proper expansion pipe in any way, there’s actually a few spots in the rpm range where some coincidental pulse waves actually reflect back at the right moment - if you’ve got the ports set up just right. To be honest, it’s basically a craps shoot for where you’ll find the power boost, but it’s there a little bit.
Some day I’d like to chop the header and stinger off and switch them. The big pipe should be at the manifold, and the small diameter pipe at the end. The expansion chamber itself is a weird looking bit of silly nonsense, but it makes a nice exhaust note, and having the manifold and stinger setup properly would help a huge amount to capture any pulse waves that it makes.

It’s kinda funny cause I usually say to myself, I’m taking the black sport bike because I want to be quick... ya it’s quick on the street but then if I park it and make eye contact with someone....

And the crazy part is I'm almost 50😁 I work on small engines and have some Briggs 3hp and 5hp engines laying around, I was thinking of a way to put one of those on a bike but ended up with this one. Now that itch has been scratched. Now time to build a go cart
@@garyalensr It must be an age thing. I have more fun with these bikes than I did with any other bike I’ve ever owned. There were a couple of contenders though, like a 1983 KX125 and a 1974 DT175. Both two stoke power houses in a lightweight package. But these motorized bikes are soooo cheap and accessible, almost zero govmn’t interference and a complete hands on build hobby that gets you deep down in the guts of a bike. You gotta set up everything from seat position to brake calipers. Man, machine, oil and wrenches, and all on a shoestring budget. I love it.

I have built something similar using the parts from a kids Bmw 12v police ride on bike. The parts (some how!?) all seem to fit on my 20x4 fat tyre e bike! It has blue lights, siren, working dashboard, rear panniers, etc...all working with the 12v battery it came with. Only mistake I initially made was mounting the front fairing cowl to the handlebars. So had the arduous task of using 2 mop handles, gaffa tape, zip ties, and a lot of colorful language lol But it really does look exactly like a full size police motorbike and does 32 mph!
you need to play with your idler a bit, and get some jb weld exhaust wrap for that leak if you arent going to replace that exhaust with something to get a good seal back

@@OrneryMouse lol I blew the gasket on my exhaust today. New personal best of just shy of 50mph on a system that was built to top at around 20-25 on flat ground. She was purring today, and I made her purr to hard. lol. I'm torn between JB exhaust warpping it with their 1,1000F rated fibergass/JB weld compound wraps vs getting a flexible exhaust so I can run the exhaust in a more custom configuration. His name is Frankenstein though, and so I'm tempted to make him more Franken. ~3,500 miles strong.

@@TrueHelpTV Haha! To be honest I’ve never actually bought an exhaust gasket. Typically I’ll use the gasket that comes with the kit until it fails, then I switch to homemade paper gaskets. Yup, paper gaskets on the exhaust manifold. The trick is to cut it kinda wide so there’s overhang, then soak it in oil before installing. If the surfaces are smooth and mated well, that gasket will probably last longer than the piston rings.

I actually had a shift kit on it for a short while in the first year, but eventually I decided that it performed better without it, and had way less moving parts to fail. Still though, it would be nice if I had at least a 3 speed gearbox or something. Even with this untuned engine I’ll bet the proper gearing would get it up to 60mph without much trouble.

You could use plastics like that, but it would be very limiting to how it looks and gets mounted. Plus my way is cheaper. I just picked up everything I need to make a full fairing body kit, and I only spent $40 cdn. If I get all fancy and do a 5 or 6 colour paint scheme, I might spend as much as $50. Plus I get to make it look exactly like how I want.
I actually started out thinking about using plastics like that. But the total cost and huge amount of custom cutting and fitting to make it all fit together seemed a bit much. I’ll bet a motivated guy with an eye for detail and a clever brain might be able to pull that off. But me, I’m kinda like a kid in a mud puddle; it’s fun. Its dirty and rough, and fun!

Got it from Amazon for about $75 cdn. It came quick and was very well packaged. Zero flaws. It’s awesome. I used a heat gun to shrink the sides in a little, because it was too wide and looked a little funny. Also it came with no mounts, which was really no big deal because I had to custom fit it anyhow. And I did that in the simplest way I could think of.

Like the seat. Where can I find one? I have a Gary Fischer 29 inch mountain bike with, 29 inch wheels, 100 cc 2 stroke motor. Hydraulic disc front brake, caliper rear with 11 speeds on the Cassette. It will do 110 KPH. However I will not be caught on roads here as 60 KPH is the limit except for Intercontinental Highways 1 and 2. Where vehicles must be licensed I don't need a $2500 or more ticket nor expose my moped is faster than allowed. Also 60 KPH is about the top sane speed. With front but not rear suspension and Mountain bike tires made for a speed of 35 to 40 MPH. I am 76 and don't care for broken bones.

this is equivalent to a single surron ebike motor in a tesla car. I have a bt100 and its on a electra cruiser and looks like a custom Harley in the 20's....besides the rust.
This actually IS a surron ebike in a Tesla car. I just took off the extra wheels, shortened the frame and run a 25cc weed-whacker engine instead. Better on gas and scores way more with the girls than a Tesla.

That’s a difficult question to answer. Tons of factors determine the life of an engine. For me, the average life span of any given engine is about 5000 miles. At that point it’s on the second or third set of rings and the bottom end is likely going to need bearings and crank seals. Although really they’re never dead until you give up on them. I still use the first engine I ever bought, and it’s done at least 5000 miles.
Properly installed, unmodified and gently used, I’d expect one of these engines to last closer to 10,000 miles, maybe even more if you get a good kit.

I would be afraid of the frame and wheel not handling the stresses of motorcycle style speeds and weight.
The torque and leverage applied to the frame by a cyclist, would be far larger stresses than a small engine like this can ever put on a frame.
The frames is more than adequate to handle the minimal amount of torque that this motor could produce, it’s likely less than 3 horsepower. The top speed isn’t increased a massive amount, I’d assume 40mph which I’ve achieved on multiple pushbikes, from BMX going down giant hills, to road bikes on big long straights to mountain bikes, and they’ll definitely do that speed and more. There’s so many motorised bike kits out there running around and the motors will usually fail before the bicycle.
A valid concern. Aluminum frames are generally too weak for motorizing, and even a nice steel frame can break welds under certain conditions. For example, if the engine mounts and driveline aren’t setup straight and the rider is heavy, or if chain tension is too tight and the roads are rough, sideways torsion plus engine vibration can snap a weld or crack a tube.
Motorized biking is an accessible hobby. Literally anybody able bodied can do it. But to do it safe you’ve got to think about the bike as if it were a little motorcycle. Nobody sane would ride a motorcycle with a cracked or weak frame, a loose engine mount, only one brake or no brakes at all, a loose gas tank, loose throttle grip, no kill switch.... but I’ve seen plenty of youtuber guys doing that stuff, and some even do all that stuff at once! So don’t do that.
But if you’re looking for a practical hands-on full spectrum hobby that rewards you with soul filling ride experiences and a really nifty way of getting about for errands or commuting when the weather is good.... then you found it.

The cops told me to keep it under 50kmh in town. I ride geared up when I’m on this bike and it’s in perfect mechanical order, including headlights, taillight, brake lights and mirrors, and that all helps to keep them off my back.
First time I got pulled over the cop was all frazzled because I had no lights at all when I passed him, and when he came up to pull me over he couldn’t even see me, and he almost RAN me over! Surprisingly he didn’t give me too hard of a time, and no ticket. He just said pedal home on the sidewalk and get lights right away.
Next time I got pulled over for speeding, by the same cop. Again, surprisingly he didn’t give me too hard of a time, and no ticket. He explained to me that I need to be a better ambassador for efficiency vehicles riders. It was weird, I was really expecting a ticket that time, but instead he complimented me on keeping the bike well and riding with a full face helmet, but reminded me that all of the rules of the road still apply to me. I was flattered.
Third time I got pulled over I was heading back into town and coming in at about 75kmh. By the end of the police interaction, there were three cruisers and 4 cops, all of them trying to find something wrong with my bike to justify a ticket. The best they could say was that my tail light probably wasn’t luminous enough. Again I went home on the bike, with no tickets. I think I’ve pushed my luck on that as far as I can though, so these days I actually (mostly) keep it under 50kmh in town.
ive been sticking to the old railway trail I peddle there and then turn on the motor. I just put on a speedo so I cant wait to see how fast it will go its a 69cc skyhawk and have had no issues so for with the set up thanks for the info

See that windshield cuts down wind resistance, which makes for a smoother and more comfortable ride, slightly higher top speed, and much better gas mileage. Plus it forces you to move the handlebars down to mount it properly (or it doesn't look right), so you get a better ergonomic riding position. More weight on the front tire means better grip in corners and more braking command. Plus it looks cool too lol

It's made for a full size road bike, so it will be too wide and look silly on your bike at first. I used a heat gun to warm up the plastic to the point of flexing, then bound it tight with string to hold its new shape.
I did it in stages because I was worried about wrecking it, so I shrunk it, test fitted, then shrunk again until it looked right. By the end it was about 4 inches less wide, which also made it several inches taller too. You're totally right bro, it DOES look good. And so can you.

Yes sir! I mostly treat them with respect and kindness because they’re autonomous and self aware like you and I... but truth is one time I buzzed a whole flock of them with a giant P-51 r/c airplane ‘cause the dang birds just wouldn’t leave the airfield and let us fly.
When I got to the airfield that day, the whole club was there but nobody was flying! Then I noticed the geese. Hundreds of them. One old guy had a plane out in the field with a stalled engine, but he couldn’t get it back because the geese wouldn’t let him get close! So when I showed up, everybody cheered! “Did you bring the P-51???”. They hoped so, cause it was big and fast and loud and I always hotdogged that bird like a maverick in a one man air show.
So I took off in the pits - which is normally a big no no, but the geese literally occupied the entire field so I had no choice - and I made 3 high speed runs right across the deck and scared the living shit right out of them. For reals, it was all over the field! And when I cut back for the last run, half the flock went right over the parking lot and crapped on almost everybody’s car. What a mess.

You know it’s weird man, after all this time it’s still only you and me and about 2 or 3 other guys who do any kind of original body stuff. Now I’m not knocking the style, but a bicycle with colour coordinated pedals and grips and a shiny paint job just doesn’t do it for me. I just find it weird that virtually everybody makes basically the same bikes, only with different pedals or handlebars or paint.

Life insurance. To my knowledge no insurance company provides a specific policy for motorized bicycles. Always a good idea to say a little prayer before every ride too.

That’s kinda the idea. Well, more like the acceptable limit of poor quality. If you can’t see the flaws at 50ft, and it has an overall appealing look, then it’s a success. A ghetto success - which is a lot like a normal success, except that instead of saying “Alright! This is awesome!”, you go “Oops, oh dang it... uh... well I guess that’ll have to do. Doesn’t look too bad from back here anyways.”

Street legal in many places, but restricted. They’re efficiency vehicles, so they fall under the same legislation as electric bikes and trikes. It’s the future man. I burned less than 50L of gas all last year in 5 different bikes, and I ride whenever I feel like it. Which is a lot.
Most car drivers burn 50L of gas in a few days. When it comes to environmental impact and carbon footprint, nothing on the road treads lighter than a well made gas bike. I see smug little road ragers bombing around in their SUV’s like they own the roads, squeezing us into curbs and using their 2000lbs wrecking ball vehicles to express displeasure when they have to slow down to the speed LIMIT, or feel inconvenienced in the slightest... and they say things like we shouldn’t be on the roads because WE’RE dangerous? Because our bikes pollute more? No, our bikes do not pollute more and mostly only endanger ourselves.
Gas bikes are the future if you care about the planet. Gas bikes are the future if you want to slow down and just enjoy a ride.

A coupla’ decades ago I used to commute 40-50 miles to/from work every day on my moped, I filled up the tank twice a week, for 25 cents…! I had a problem in that there were gas stations that couldn’t sell less than 1 dollars worth…
@@PRH123 THAT’S what I’m talking about. We’re literally using ounces of gas to do the same trip that others burn gallons to drive. Most people probably use more gas just warming up their vehicle than I do running around all day.

What kind of foam do you use for the body work?
3/8” interlocking foam floor tiles. Cheap. Not very durable, but cheap. Also it’s very cheap, and if I didn’t already mention, it’s super duper cheap.
You can pick up a 6 pack of foam tiles and a bag of glue sticks at Walmart for about $40cdn. That should be enough to make a full fairing bike if you don’t waste too much.

It's definitely a niche in motorcycling. Hands on, mechanical aptitude required and top speeds of...... well they don't do top speeds.... or actually any speed at all really. Basically you just cruise at an average of 25-30mph and taste the pallette of local flying insects. And I like it .

Hm. I hadn’t really thought of that before, but now you’ve got me wondering if an av10 would fit in the chassis. Cause I could run a mid-drive slip clutch to the 103sp and have both meet at the junction sprocket. Probably get like 5hp from that alone, even if I use the av09. Interesting idea my friend. Very interesting indeed.
