So very sad the useless bureaucrats who could force the moron who owns this property to do something have done nothing of use themselves. Proof positive Government is never the answer.
Quiet Man is one of my favorite movies of all time. The idiocy of the guy who owns this and the Irish government have RUINED a beloved site by millions.
I would say for those of us in the US of Irish ancestry that have never been to Ireland that this the most well known piece of Irish real estate for us! It's sad that it has not been maintained!
We in Ireland are a nation of vandals. The site should have been acquired by CPO decades ago. Mr Eamonn O Caoibh FF lives in that area and has had various Ministries. Has he no interest?. Enda Kenny announced some years ago there was 400,000e allocated for restoration. What happened???.. Although, luckily the OPW didn't get responsibility for restoration. One has to go and look at the iconic Durrow Abbey residence and surroundings acquired by OPW, now falling into ruin. Excuse.... No money. Why buy it then??
American woman visited this cottage every year for 30 years and each year removed stones from the fireplace and rebuilt the fireplace back in the good 'ol USA.

What I don’t understand is why would it cost so much to rebuild a cottage that’s probably did not have a bathroom and run a water?
It was bought by an American guy and the land was rented out to a local who claimed squatters rights it went to court
The local goverment could have had something done with it ???? ......
These homes when built lasted hundreds of years.
