    thank you guys so much for the support on today’s video! for everyone that pointed out the undertones in my chest/shoulders are red, this is correct! this was why I was able to make the foundation work. but unfortunately once the summer ends, this tan fades, and I’m back to my “year round” complexion and true undertone this foundation will be of no use for me :( it’s a shame that the dark/deep dark spectrum in this collection was literally the lowest priority.

Like do they just not think hey out of all these shades none of these will suit her but we gave it to her for free why should she complain. And putting the fact that medium skin tones are already catered to the most in almost every shade range of every foundation into the mix, it's kind of bs.
      I'm not gonna start anything about light vs dark representation in foundations, but there's 32 shades in this range, 4 being dark, and I dont even think the LIGHT shades are light enough for me. Its. All. Medium. Shades.

    If you’re catering to the Latinx community you must include us all. Blows my mind that my dark skinned best friend can’t find a shade. I get what you were trying to do, but my sister has an olive undertone and she doesn’t have a shade here because she’s darker. Mind you neither of the people I’ve mentioned are even Afro- Latinas! Can’t imagine the frustration that all of y’all are feeling! I’m all for Latinx empowerment but you have to include all of us. My beautiful melanin ladies and gentlemen aren’t getting any love and that’s just ridiculous. Cater to us all or don’t bring it out until you can cater to us all. That’s the bottom line. The beauty community will no longer take it. You will be dragged on social media for it now. It’s something companies need to understand in this day and age.

      Exactly, that's why representation is key! Majority of people think Latinos look like Jlo or Shakira so they automatically think Latinos only come that way, we have to remember Latino isn't a race, the fact you can be black and Latino proves its not a race, their are even south east Asian Latinos, because Latino isn't a race its a culture, but if there's more representation people won't think of Latinos as just light/olive skinned, I think it's great that Jackie is so honest

  • @Lolo-jl8mn
    @Lolo-jl8mn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +174

    I’m confused at to why a foundation was their next business move? Why not brushes? That would make the most sense. I feel like these shades honestly are so ridiculous. I’m not gonna tweak a foundation from a company that saw me as an afterthought when NARS, Lancôme, Maybelline, Cover FX, Fenty, and now Too Faced ✨ put some thought into how I’d look. It’s like they made the dark shades to stop us from having anything to say instead of taking the time to curate them. But that just causes more problems.

    • @KrysSparrow
      @KrysSparrow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      Macedonia Melón there’s a difference when the brand only makes 32 shades and more than half of them are light/medium because yes, undertones are extremely hard when you have really pale skin, but if you’re going to work on those undertones so hard as a brand, consider deeper skin tones. It’s really not that deep

I'm not a dark girl so maybe it is out of place for me to say it, but I am albino and real porcelain shades are almost nonexistent. mychemicalclifford I'm sure they do, but it's hardly a problem compared to what deep-toned ranges face. Not only do many brands lack ranges dark enough at all, when they do, they have no undertones to choose from. The difference is that medium undertones may be hard to capture (like any undertone), but at least you have choices. Same problem applies to albino ranges.

      Ms. Alexandria E. that's true the struggle to find a true olive shade is no where NEAR the struggle dark skin women and very pale women face I just wanted to put out there that even though there might be a "range" of medium shades it's never actually a range just pink

    Don’t forget we’ll receive the iconic “adding more shades” I hate that these brands treat us like a second thought then try to cover up their mistakes, I feel like it’s 2018 we need more darker shades it shouldn’t be that they wait until people get mad and ask them where’s the rest. This is why I love you Jackie you are extremely honest and speak for us girls of color ❤️ I’m happy there’s brands that make my shade and I don’t have to worry about brand like beauty blender that don’t care enough to make more than 4 dark/deep shades. I wonder when these brands will learn and either be inclusive or just don’t do it at all

But the color range.... imma just say this, my grandma is hella golden and my definition of a “medium shade” and from what I’ve seen none of the medium shades are her tone and neither are the deep ones... That indigenous Mexican skin was not catered to... colorism is the worst in Hispanic/Latino communities..

      I agree with you... Being puertorican and seeing how we have forgotten about our three roots (Spanish, Taino and African) is really chilling. We were taught about this since elementary and I can still see a wide range of colorism in my community. I really can't understand, I've never thought that a person's skin tone meant overall superiority, and seeing how the Latin community is mostly made up of different races, there should be more consciousness about it.

      Exactly. I heard someone say, "Well the creator is latina and was focusing on shades in the medium range for latinos." Ummmm... okay... talk about the erasure of all afro latinos. It was just a shitty excuse for yet again another non inclusive foundation range. Oh well their loss. We can just take our business to other brands who are already killing it in the game. And until makeup companies get the message, we will keep calling them out on their bullshit and take our money elsewhere.

    Honestly, it kind of makes me feel “ugh” the fact that Beauty Blender’s owner said “oh I’m Latina and I want to give more shades to latin people”, I’m Latina and I don’t see my shade either. You think of Dominicans, Puertorriqueños, and Cubans that are Afro latinas and they are excluded from this range.

      As a biracial “Afro-Latina,” finding my shade is damn hard. In comparison, all of my cousins who are what you refer to as mestizos do not have much of a challenge finding shades.
      In fact, usually those with a lighter or darker complexion are less catered to then the medium complexion in the beauty industry as a whole. BB is clearly not considering the facts. Not only do people come in all shade ranges, but Latinxs come in every shade.

    I'm honestly disgusted with a launch like this in 2018.
    Its all well and good having a good formula and 32 shades, but if 27 of those shades are slightly differing varieties of beige then what's the point? Who are they catering too?
    Yes I could probably walk into any shop and come out with my shade but until they've made shades for people of colour and while they're at it added some fair and very fair shades, I will not be purchasing.
    If NYX can do it and do it properly for $15, then any brand should be able to do it for $40.

      Let's talk about these slightly differing varieties of beige as well. Several of the light shades look interchangeable and the medium plus and dark/deep have huge gaps where there is no color (womp womp) for anyone in between.

      Exactly. It’s actually beyond obnoxious of her to say that knowing that Latinx people come in literally every shade humanly possible. I understand we’re all extremely self aware of our own shade and needs, but it looks like she didn’t actually care and added the dark shades for PR. She might as well called it the “bounce foundation for medium skin tones” and just said “f*ck y’all” to the rest of us because the shades are a joke. Maria xcx I totally agree Maria, my undertone is olive and I have NEVER found a 100% shade or undertone match. I agree they needed to have a wider variety of deep-dark shades and obviously work on their undertones, BUT let's not get it twisted, the majority of foundations have a wider range in the light to medium category not medium tan and its either cool or warm and (thankfully more and more since its closest to my undertone) neutral NOT olive. Honestly, they probably only have a semi-decent medium-tan shade range is for when lighter complexions get taner.

    The fact that the owner is addressing the " Latino " skin tone is a joke because just as much as there is light skinned Latinos there is dark skinned Latinos.
    I have family that do not find there complexion in brands that they like because they're not as light skinned as the person next to them.
    I feel like latinos in general need to realize we are a MIXTURE of colors and we are not all light skinned.
    Latinos praise lighter complexion and its sad because they forget about their ancestor and where they came from and how diverse we are.
    It's SAD and I'm upset and tired of hearing latinos neglecting their people of color because in every island/country of the latino culture there is people of color.

    The "catering to Latinas" argument is such bs though because you can't really categorize Latinas as only J-Lo's and Selena Gomez's skin tones. There are so many under represented Afro-Latinx people, indigenous natives, and many more people with all kinds of ethnic backgrounds all over Latin America and that excuse is just pathetic. Amara La Negra, Cardi B, Lupita Nyong'o, and Zoe Saldaña are all examples of Afro-Latinx women who differ drastically in shade ranges which is why that argument is not only non-inclusive, but also inaccurate.

If the owner is delusional enough to say the medium tan shades are the hardest to find then she can actually f*** all the way off. R for RAE TV but the kicker is if she claimed to do this for Latinas there should be like friggin' 50 shades. Latinos can be of any race so that should be a huge smorgasbord of skin tones and undertones. She should have just said this is geared towards the light and medium Latinas with olive undertones and left it at that. Those 7 dark dhades are clearly an afterthought. Basically telling melaninated people this line isn't really for you but we want your money also.

Like yay you came out with 40 shades...with 20 light/beige, 15 medium, and 5 jumping around shades of dark. Shade range means a range. These companies need to slow down honestly.

Also, don’t let the foundation suck.

      the forth shade she showed in the video isn’t even my summer shade and I’m brown. I haven’t experienced as a brown person the abundance of medium shades she describes. They always make “medium” shades orange asf and it’s so annoying. But straight up, at least I have a couple options, Black women and especially deep dark women are ignored by the beauty industry. If they even get shades, they’re completely half assed. I think beauty blenders owner was just trying to give an excuse for her shitty shade range.

    • @theghouliestghoul
      @theghouliestghoul 6 ปีที่แล้ว +73

  • @steotrron
    @steotrron 6 ปีที่แล้ว +71

    Being Latina the owner should know that people who identify as Latinx don't just come in light/medium shades with olive undertones. A lot of the lighter shades were similarly colored when swatched.. There are tons of Afro-Latinx people who weren't catered to in this line. Creating (debatably) four deep/dark shades was a massive oversight, and there needs to be more accountability held against them for this.

    I think the problem is that companies are leaving only light skin people the responsability to create colors and swatching ...so to them they look dark, so they think they are getting more dark shades, when they are not, that is why your collab is so great because you actually understand what we need.....Thanks for the video :)

      The companies also need to hire more people of color. L'oreal hired an woman of color as their chemist and created the shades for Loreal and Maybelline.

      What I don't understand is, why come out with 32 shades and about 25 of them look the exact same? It's like they're just dicking around pretending like they have a big range of shades.

      yahmina sarae true but not all companies are going to follow suit to fenty, or lancome, etc. I'm just enjoying the evolution of makeup in general...when I was younger the industry was limited to MAC and Flori Roberts, and dermablend etc. And even THOSE companies didn't have my perfect shade. And EVERY black girl of darker than lighter mixed was matched to MAC NW45(dark as hell)....oh, and Revlon color stay in cappuccino which was a whole shade too dark...it was horrible...I had to go to prescriptive custom blind. $65.00 back then...80.00 now....so thank GOD I can finally go put to a separate or macs and actually shop brands and feel more confidant that I can actually find my shade...anyways...I applaud the companies who take the time and effort, and don't make exccuses...

      yea thats true but how many black-owned brands are out there and that are actually mainstream ? Also this brand is iconic for their beauty sponge for foundation so you would think that they would accommodate everybody in this line since basically everyone uses it

      Maxine B Black people range in colour from light to dark, therefore, cosmetic companies catering to 'Black' people offer a variety of shades. Secondly, Beauty blender has not expressed that they are a brand that caters exclusively to 'Blacks', Latinxs or Asians etc. They are an American brand, therefore they should cater to peoples of all shades.

    As a very neutral, paper-white-pale girl, I definitely agree that mediums get all the love. Only about 2% of foundations carry a shade I don't have to add white to, we're talking "fairest porcelain" looking like an orange spray tan on me. Not to mention undertones either being baby pink or lemon bar yellow
    Like, I get the whole "more customers are medium thing" but that doesn't mean you shouldn't make the """rarer""" colors, just have less in stock. Plus, since so few other brands make good "rare" shades, we'll flock to those that do

      PREACH! I’m tired of not finding a shade fair enough for me. Tons of medium shades (not trying to play down that WOC have just been left out in many brand shade ranges) I have to mix LA Girl HD white foundation in every foundation I buy. Fenty and Kat Von D haven’t even gotten it right for me.

      Naaaaa it's the orange range that gets all the love all the time, I'm a true medium 80% of the year and I never find anything.. I can make a light foundation work because of bronzer, and because i don't mind my face being lighter..

    • @spicyarts_4713
      @spicyarts_4713 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Sarah same for me, the only brand that has my shade is fenty but i've super dry skin so i can't really use it. Plus i can't find a concelear that is lighter or at least the same color of the foundation. Another problem is that light foundations have almost always a super yellow/orange undertone that doesn't fit with mine.

    • @xRiniX666x
      @xRiniX666x 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Amen girl. And what i think people dont understand is that us super pale girls have a lot of redness to cover in our faces and that doesn't mean that we have a pink undertone! It's also so hard to cover that redness without looking like you have pink face :( I describe it to other like, if you had a spot of red paint dried on the wall and you try to cover it with white paint, it's just gonna look pink, where as if you cover it with tan/orange, you won't really see the red as much. I heavily apply green concealer to my jawline so that at least it doesn't look like a huge jump from neck to face. Fenty's lightest is still a tad too dark and yellow.

  • @angelle_rose

    She really said that lighter shades are always addressed and not the mediums? 🙄 If you're really pale or really dark foundation is just too orange or red for you. I'm so over brands realising bad shade ranges, it's actually getting boring now. But at least there are a more brands nowadays that have good shade ranges. We should just not even waste our money on brands like this.
    To clarify I'm talking about what the founder of beauty blender said not Jackie.

      Angel Cupidon I’m extremely extremely pale and not even Mac has a shade light enough for me. That beauty blender lightest shade ain’t gonna do it for me. If the palest pale spectrum aren’t catered for and the whole deep spectrum isn’t, it seems stupid to me. Like companies make more money if they cater for more people

    • @angelle_rose
      @angelle_rose 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Aoife M A lot of make up companies really don't seem to take for really pale or really dark people, it's so frustrating. And that's such a shame that company like Mac doesn't even come light enough for you and they are one of the brand's who have had a good shade range for a while now. Have you tried Dior or Lancome? Both their shade ranges has improved a lot in the last few years.

  • @Elizabeth-uu5tv

    This is an ill informed launch. Latinas come in EVERY shade range. I'm Puerto Rican and my father has deep skin and my mother is as pale as they come. It's as if the brand does not know Afro-Latinas make a large part of the population. What about Cubans, Dominicans, the indegenous South American and Mexican girls? if anything there needs to be more very light and very dark shades...medium tone skin is pretty much all set. Sigh.

    there are 0 shades of fair, 6 shades of “light” - light-medium, 19 shades of medium and 7 shades of “deep” which really range from medium to 2 actually “deep” shades .. and nothing in between. The whole shade range is ridiculous.
