It's the lawsuits and the politics etc that will take the time. We are still in the "finger pointing phase" right now. The State made some very bad decisions and those in charge will need some time to cover that up. The lake will be back. No worries. Following the federal government's 2018 license revocation, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) took oversight of the dam. EGLE determined that the dam was structurally sound.

To me it looks like they allowed it to fill up too high because of lawsuits. People in certain areas wanted the water higher and they sued. So now here we are everybody lost. Common sense overshadowed by litigation. It should have never been as high as it was beforehand. I think it would have been fine if they just maintained it at a lower water level at all times. Now they can build a new one I imagine that's the plan I dunno.

@@wiserbud3404 Boyce Hydro owned the dam since 2004, the dam was known to need its spillway extended since 1999. The owner of Bryce Hydro pocketed all the money instead of repairs (estimated around 1 million in electricity sold to consumers energy a year www.bridgemi.com/michigan-environment-watch/two-heirs-bought-midland-dams-tax-shelter-tragedy-followed ). The EGLE then took control and decided it was structurally sound, but structurally sound and up to code do not mean the same thing, while the dam was structurally sound, the spillway was not large enough to handle "Full Flood" percentage. This was 2 years after the feds pulled the "operators permit" from Boyce, the Four Lakes Association was planning to buy the dams and along with the state make improvements by 2023, WAY faster than the 15 years Boyce hydro was working with www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2020/05/20/ferc-revoked-failed-edenville-dam-permit-flood-midland-gladwin/5226648002/ . When this event happened the dam met "Full Flood" and the spillway couldn't handle it thus making the water penetrate the earthen dam from the top. Once the water started spilling over the top of the sodded area erosion did its thing and well... everything LITERALLY went down hill from there. I do place some blame on the state for suing Boyce hydro for keeping lake levels up, specially during spring thaw, but Boyce Hydro knowingly bought the dam knowing it had issues and then danced around repairs it for 15 years ( www.ferc.gov/CalendarFiles/20180910172800-P-10808-058.pdf ) and was negligent about it.

From the atv tracks it appears that the exposed lake bed is firming up rather quickly. That surprises me. The sediment there in Michigan must be different than what I have seen in central Illinois. When I was a young man I went for a walk with a young lady across a drained lake bed about one month after the lake had been drained. There was a surface crust that was cracking in the sun, but you could feel the crust move. On an impulse I playfully pull my hands on the young lady's shoulders and put weight on them. She broke through the crust and went up to her knees in black muck. I had one hell of a time getting her out of there. I haven't seen her since.

I viewed your video yesterday of of the devastation Downstream, Great job in showing the devastation . In contrast those people lost likelihoods + homes, the only thing these folks lost was just water. The transformation of their landscape has been very traumatic. I think this is a very good lesson for everyone when looking for lake-front property. First question: Is this a natural lake or one that is man-made because of a dam?
A reservoir should NEVER be considered a lake. A reservoir should NEVER be named as a lake. A reservoir should NEVER be sold as lake-front property.
I feel for the property owners on both sides of that dam.
