I have a question about the Dana 44 front axle it's a closed knuckle I'm in the middle of a rebuild on the driver's side I went to replace the steering knuckle and it would not go back on then noticed it has 2 grooves on the outer edge of the axle and the passenger side has a single groove on it is there a difference between the 2 outer stub axles or am I missing something like the one driver side is larger than the original can you please help also I may not have mentioned the vehicle I'm working on it is a '68 f250 4x4 thanks again for your help

What was that Dana 44 off of originally? You only mentioned a 1970 something? I’m curious as I have a Dana 44 from a 1980 dodge 3/4 ton (8lug) that I plan on using on my Scrambler.
Problem solving is something that helps me understand the big picture of how things work. Thanks for the good video.
I’m running a Dana 44 front on a full-size truck with Yukon shafts and that locking ring hangs me up every time. Glad to see I’m not alone.
the hub isn't pitted, the previous owner peened metal over as he also had a problem with the loose bearing race. its a quick bandaid.
Glad you showed the lock ring BS and the resolve to do it right. I donno why but whenever I see those, they are always messed right the frick up!
And this is why I am gonna build a hybrid jk44 with unit bearings lol
Hey man, I got an 85 Waggy d44 housing with now outers.. Do you know if I can put mid/late 70s bronco/f150 outers on it? Swapping into a TJ btw
those aren't pits in the race journals , someone peened them to hold onto the races

Time for some RCV axles love mine
That’s my plan if I break another one and it’s not under warranty anymore, lol.
Do you have a "trick" to get that keyed washer out? Its bound up ZERO play... magnets wont pull it out, either will two 90* picks

Sweet man, this one is from a 76 F-150. It’s has 5x5.5 and is a high pinion. Thanks for watching👊🏻
@@MuddyBeards4X4 have the same axle in my SAS'd explorer cut down to early bronco width. rocking radius arms for now.
thats a bummer. i have seen more than a dozen broken axles, lockers, drive shafts on that exact spot.
I brought some yukon axles for my dana44 and they were are made in India.
I just got a set of 35 spline Yukons for my 9” and they were made in India as well.
I’ll be doing a hub job this coming week, myself. Not looking forward to it lol
God Speed... it’s not that bad now, I have a lot of experience, lol.
Very informative, thanks!
Does your buddy Nate have his own channel now?

Someone has center punched the hub where the races set.
Time for a Dana 60....
It will happen eventually, but not this year. Hopefully tons will be in my future.
No spindle replacement like vid title would imply..... Darn!
A bent spindle will not cause wobble.
Who the hell put shims behind the race?! 100% wrong!
Not sure, I bought a pile of random Dana 44 parts from a guy years ago🤷🏼♂️
