Wow those gulls eggs look delicious, good looking yolks and what a beautiful egg. Thanks for the videos,I enjoy them all.Good luck with them seals. Matt in Portland Oregon USA.
Very tasty egg, William's Harbour is on a remote island so gulls eggs like this were always the fresh's eggs we get, certainly all along the coast. Before the road went through a few years ago we get a freight boat in the fall & then no more until late spring after the ice cleared, harvesting from the land & sea was a necessity.. Thank you, I hope to harvest a couple seals, times running out on me now though.....
My wife (Tara) had the chance to pick a few gull eggs with Jill in Rigolet a couple of weeks ago .. to say I was jealous is a major understatement! Haha. I can't wait to try them some day. My grandfather says that some people from the community did that in the lapoile Bay Area on the south coast of nl where he is from but it wasn't common.
Hey WL, nice to see ya back in the boat doin what ya do. my father used to collect gulls eggs years ago too for food there was 11 of us little people with our mouths open all the time. Nice vid ....cheers
For how Long should a Seagull-egg be boiled?. I really want to try it boiled on bread and topped with Shrimps👍🏻😀. And-what species does the best Seagull eggs come from?..
Good day William, What a majestic view, awesome video, thanks for the trip, the eggs look very appetising, almost orange colour. Thumbs up and best regards from Down Under, Tony.
Interesting breakfast. Is there a way that you know if an egg is fresh or if it has been sat on for a while without first breaking the egg to find out?
Thanks Lonnie, we collect a few every spring, certainly a lot of people do, I either fry them this way or with a few pork scrunchions... Yes as a egg ages it becomes a little more buoyant, a really fresh egg in fresh water will sink to the bottom and lie flat, after a few days, week or so i guess the egg will become a little lighter in one end.. a while longer he'll kinda stand up on the bottom, thought a bit old still good to eat... When he's almost coming of the bottom to buoyant then put him back, to old then...When I see three in a nest i just leave them alone, usually if just one or two in a nest then their good, if you take them early before they are completely layed then they will relay again so really good way to harvest....
Thank you, after hauling a bit of gear I was hungry for it to.. Crab fishing is going very well, catch rates are great, weather been a bit uncomfortable though.. Hope to get some video next trip, when I made this video the go pro ended up in the water in the bottom of the boat but a few days in a bag of rice dried her out good, I taught she was finished there for a bit but she came around ...lol
Most people I know rather the gulls egg over the hens, flavor is different, wild eggs I find are richer & fill you up better as well... Father in law is sending up some eider duck eggs today, they have a huge thick rich yoke, my favorite egg.. They don't nest well in our area so we don't touch them there, but if you harvest eggs early before they are finished laying then they will relay again so its a great way to harvest.....
Collecting eggs is a spring tradition, quiet a few people still does it. People use them in making bread, cookies & so on.. One great thing about collecting eggs is when you take them early they'll just relay, so its a great way to harvest....
Nice big fresh eggs, very tasty.. Thanks buddy, second trip in now, weather been a big snotty though. Plants blocked so we can't land again tell Saturday so couple days home....Hope everything is going well your way, all the best.....
Great video ... maybe you can tell us your yearly schedule ... I think you said first comes crabbing then what comes next ... and I guess you end with trapping?
We have a lot of Seals where I live down on cape cod Massachusetts, also a lot of Gull eggs but the People and the politicians think they are cute. So we would be jailed if we ever tried to eat them. Love your channel.
Thank you, won't be much longer & we'll be collecting a few eggs again.. One great thing about harvesting eggs is when done early they relay so no harm done.. Thanks again, William
Axel Axis your lucky you have people who like gulls around my area they are extremely hated and looked at as ruthless scavengers and people here are not afraid to punt them on sight even ones that have deformed or broken legs
I see your sitting in the big boy chair on the boat, does that mean you're running the boat for the crab fishery this year. Good luck with the crabs, I know the egg was good....lol
Oh the egg was delicious, very filling as well. No 1st mate, was just having a watch as we were heading to the next string, everyone was getting a quick lunch....
Well done buddy!!! I got my package and I LOVE them!!!! I showed an unboxing on my last video, thank you so much William!! Do they have a special name?
Thats great, glad you have it.. It's a ice fishing kit/set, the ice fishing gear we use here is pretty simple.. Been out to sea snow crab fishing but home for a couple days then back out again.. Gonna watch the video very soon, all the best to yous....
They are fertilized but birds don't sit on the eggs much during the egg laying process. Regular sitting/incubation doesn't start normally until all the eggs are laid. During cold weather they may even delay sitting a bit longer..
Wild eggs are very rich, very filling. We spent a lot of time growing up climbing over the hills egg hunting, running around see who could find the most ...lol
For food, there are over 7 million harp seals in our waters, they are out of balance in the seals favor.. 7 million seals eat a lot of fish in the run of a year..
I love gull and duck and goose eggs They taste so good
Very Nice video👍-interesting with the Seagull Eggs.
Still need to try this-hopefully this year🍀🙏

Eggs look large and appear rich.
They are, makes them very filling....
so would a gull egg taste like a normal egg from hens
Most people I know rather the gulls egg over the hens, flavor is different, wild eggs I find are richer & fill you up better as well... How are these eggs not fertilized?
