I remember watching this show here in Canada when I was teenager. It was the first time watch Black British TV shows and also show the experience of Afro-Caribbean immigrant community and Africans instead of just showing African Americans. It show the positive side of Black community.
This maybe comedy but as Black man growing up in hostile white society I could relate to this by fighting off racist boys as kid and of racist cops and some of the racist boss and co-workers as well. It teach us no matter if you are British or Canadian born, African or Caribbean immigrant, African American or from South American. We all in it together.
Most black Americans say we are all the same and are in it together, yet most Caribbean will tell you when we moved to the states we were harassed and bullied by African Americans for the way we talked and were told to go back to our country. Every Caribbean could tell you a story of how they were treated by African Americans when they came to the states. If they are in a higher up position in the job and know you are Caribbean they will make your life hell. The reason Caribbeans stick together in the states.
@@Westindiangyal1111 It is sad but true in so many areas of the US. If we speak the Queen's English, we are disparaged for thinking that we are white. If, as we are taught at home, we buss our butts to get the job done at work...we are told that we think that we are owners and better than the other workers. West Indian blacks fall into a separate category in the US.....neither chick nor fowl.
The main character who played Desmond. Made sure he made it back to Guyana when he was sick. It is noted that he wanted to go back to Guyana because his parents are buried there. He made it back to Guyana and had a heart attack when he got off the plane and died shortly after.

They are Guyanese and Jamaicans. Aunty Susu was a Jamaican born in Jamaica when it was British Jamaica. Norman beaton, the lady who played his wife and the actor who plays porkpie are from British Guiana, now known as Guyana. Big ups to my beautiful Trini peeps still. We are one west Indian family.
