Just found out he passed away about 20 years ago. A great tingeof sadness when I watch this fabulous comedy which I've rediscovered on Gold . RIP Norman Beaton who went far too soon at 60.
Love to binge watch this comedy. Never fails to cheer me up! The British comedy from this era are for me the best and nothing has come close. Vicar of Dibley, Thin Blue Line, Dinnerladies and Desmond's are my comfort TV.
Loved this series as a youth! Theme tune was quality as well. Funny thing is, as I recently started watching the series on demand you notice young actors who became famous in later years.
The UKs answer to the Cosby Show. In the 80s the majority of Black youth had Caribbean parents that came during the wind rush, so the way they set this was smart and relatable. Even the characters accents are representative of the era with Sean being the youngest having what closest resembles the black London accent of today whereas Lee being older has that early generation east London accent.
Miss Desmond's so much 😊😊👍..the whole series was so classic , original and gave so many people so much laughter n happiness from such wonderful talented cast with so many different characters🙂😊👍 This series was the best and I still miss it everyday .. keep watching the episodes befre and even now .. 👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂
Desmond's from 1989, absolutely 💯 loved watching this on Saturdays. One of my favorites at that time, brilliant programme. TRUE CLASSIC !!!!!!!!!!! Norman Beaton / Desmond, he was awesome throughout. RIP 🙏 🕊 🙏 03:28 Lisa Geoghan, great actor who also played Polly Page in the BILL (92 - 04), another brilliant program. Ram John Holder - Porkpie, totally hilarious - awesome character (YEAH MAN !!!!!!). Not surprised that he got his own series / spin off from Desmond's for 2 season from 1995. Shame it was cut short. I LOVED this show; and, ALL the characters--especially Porkpie, Lee, and Susu--they were really scene stealers. Sad that Norman B. died so young. ~ Althea

@@weekendwarriorprospecting817 you are stupid. White values? She has west Indian values she inherited from her west Indian family and their culture. Your comment made absolutely no sense. This show is about west Indian living in England. Take your racism elsewhere. You are so typical. .
Original Windrush Generation! Those opening credits told a whole story so did the song. This and Oliver at Large was so deep in my childhood! I didn't know who was funnier Desmond or Oliver!😆😆😆
Brings back childhood memories this, sat down with my dad of an evening watching it, laughing our heads off, while mum was in the kitchen making us some supper, bless her 😁😂
While the show was not the first black (or predominantly black) British television situation comedy (The Fosters, produced by London Weekend Television, aired 1976 -77)
I've been watching this on UK gold and i have to say that it's an extremely good sit com and the characters are also well cast, what is it with Peckham and sitcoms 👍
RIP Desmond aka Norman Beaton 🙏🕊😭

Need more black British representation on tv
I just gotta say, as white female watching this I always wanted to be Gloria- she still has that effect on me! So beautiful xx
That's because she had white values. That's not a negative comment but that's what makes her different from the rest of her family.
