PLY Magazine is running a Spinalong to coincide with the launch of their book, 51 Yarns to Spin Before You Cast Off. You can post your entries on their Facebook, Instagram and Ravelry groups with the hashtags #51yarns, #handspunyarn and #plymagazine. There's a different theme each week and you can find a list of the topics and other information here: plymagazine.co... The best part is that one winner each week gets a one-year subscription to PLY! I've decided to play along in video form as well by creating a video each week to correspond with that week's spinalong theme.
This week it's "Corespun" - something that's not normally in my repertoire so I study some resources, have a try, make adjustments and try again.
Next week's spinalong topic (starting Monday 25th June) is "3-Ply". Hope to see you again then!

I actually love the result of your core spun. I love, love art yarns and I do knit with them. Your yarn would look great as the edging of gloves or a hat. Just a fun knit. I do understand that textured, art yarns are not to everyone's liking. I am glad you did it and as you said, we are learning. I do have skeins of spun yarn I won't use but I have found I love the spinning process and the finished skein is my goal. I love looking at them and feeling the textures. There is room for all of us in this craft. Lol

Thank you as always! I am much like you in that I spin to make garments I will wear. So, I haven't been motivated to try it, but, who knows? Perhaps, I will give it a go with the aid of your helpful video. Maybe you could incorporate your core spun sample into a softie or a cat toy? Your kitties are adorable!

Its interesting- how many times Ive said "I'd never like" a particular fiber or technique! Over the years, Ive found that most times Its good to keep an open mind and try new fibers & different spins ,at least a few times a year . It keeps me from only being able to spin my default yarn . No pressure- just for fun . Thanks for this video :))

Thanks for sharing core spun yarn video. I probably won’t even try it because I won’t be knitting with it

I feel like the reason you were getting over spun is because you're using the espinner. It might be easier to control with a treadle and the biggest whorl you have. Also, you dont have to use a whole skein of art yarn in a single project, you can just use it for a row or two for a pop of extra texture and color.

Thanks for sharing your core spun yarn. Perhaps you could knit up a little cat toy with the sample? Or a cuff detail on a pair of mittens? Nice series!

Yes, it might have to be a cuff or something. I'll avoid cat toys as it's got that sewing thread wrapped round the core and knowing my two they're manage to somehow swallow it whole and do unspeakable things to their insides!

I'm enjoying watching these - can you tell me where you got your bobbins from? I too have a Hansen Minispinner but only the wooden bobbin it came with.

you could make art yarn and sell it, or you could weave it.
