Good job explaining the fine wool washing and some spinning tips.
I may check into the Tour de Fleece later.
Also, on some of the alpaca that I’ve processed, I’ve actually just used my fine scissors and gently snipped the tips off of the fleece just prior to spinning.

I so much enjoy all your videos. You really have great information and presentation so I never miss a video. I bought the book 51 Yarns and was thrilled that you decided to take on the challenge and give me some inspiration! I usually start with raw fleeces and end with knitting a sweater. I also enjoy all the midwestern fiber fairs where I buy from independent farms and dyers here in the US.

Thank you for explaining the fine wool washing, I have a cormo cross fleece that I washed a few years ago, but the fiber is quite tacky. I tried washing a handful of locks again the way that you did and what a difference it made. I didn't know that the water had to be that hot to melt off the lanolin. I originally bought the fleece as an over-enthusiastic new spinner and was so disappointed with the first results with it. I was thinking I would get rid of the fleece because of the time needed to process it, but now I am excited to get to it again.

I have about about 5# of incredibly beautiful Rambouillet that is resisting every effort to remove the lanolin. I'm going to try that method on some of the best staples. I've been so frustrated, I was damn near ready to toss it... :( I know I don't have the patience to make all the little packets like Judith M. does. I'm too old and life is too short! lol!

Thank you for this video. I had bought a cormo fleece last Fall and now I will continue to process it . I want to try the process you used and see how it works.

I've been inspired to give DD another try - on my Schacht Ladybug - to see if I can spin thinner (not lace) consistent singles. Excellent pointers - I've probably seen before but they hadn't sunk in! I'm on my second year of fleece to project spinning. I've not bought yarn either from a big box store nor the "good stuff" (read more expensive!) online or even locally. Which is bad because ACMoore just announced they're closing, hate Hobby Lobby and that leaves a Joann's...

This is my second time watching this and I’m coming back to it with fresh dyes now that I’m processing my own merino fleece. Thank you for the helpful information. Did you ever film the plying and finishing steps? What detergent did you use to wash the fleece?
