Brilliant video. I've started training my 10 weeks old Doberman puppy different commands, but crate training and heeling seem to be the most effective ones overall!
Haven't practiced Place command yet, but she knows the Help command where if I'm on the ground (laying or sitting), she stands firm while I hold on her, using her to get up. She learned it in less than a MINUTE. I'm not a huge person & she's big enough to be mistaken for a Goliath dobbie (her weight is in the 90's). Definitely my velcro dog.
I’m considering getting a Doberman to be an emotional/service dog. I’m wanting to get a youngster, work with him/her on all forms of training. If I take it out in the park I would do work on a long line and also take them to puppy classes and work on heal work. I would probably use a a clicker, food and plenty of praise. I would have a crate set up similar to my old whippet x Staffy so they have there own space. In the house would be natural chews such as deer antler, balls, rope toy and also puzzle toys and a licking mat to. With the long line work in the park I would work on stay and also recall.
I want to get one of your puppy courses. Do you have one specific to Dobermans?
I e just got a 2year old doberman. I've never had a dog before. I'm he's last chance,so thanks for the videos. I'm finding heal command really hard. He is great on the lead in the garden but it all goes to crap when we're out. I'm waiting for leash training from a trainer. He's so smart it's unreal xx

My 4 year old Doberman Josie (got her when she was 2 years old) is fine with her crate. She'll take a nap in it. However, I'm still working on getting getting her to stop pulling (especially when there are squirrels or other animals; those that aren't pets to her pack or pack family members).

How do you teach your dog to walk on a loose lead?
With #2 what if i have a 2 year old Saluki male that always wants to sniff the walls and rushes ahead, trying to pull me to do so? Should I tell him not to sniff the walls ahead of us and instead keep him by my side?

Yep. Had he asked, I would have lent him Milo, who's a 2 year old European Line Doberman.
Couple of things. Off the lead, Milo never goes far. If he can't see me, he's not happy. As for crate training, he's a home security/guard dog, especially when my family is alone. I can't see how he's going to do that in a crate.
Final point. He's English.
The Dobermans he used are stock footage - with mutilated ears and tails. Does he have footage of him working with real Dobermans ?
Well unlike you precious when I saw a doberman with a bobbed tail I didn't have the heart to let him die like you would have I took him and loved him.
Getting her to walk on a loose leash has been difficult even w the prong she still wants to pull or lunged
I just got a female 2 months on 3/16 and she only weights 8 pounds I just got her on 3/10 . How much should I be feeding her ?
What does this have to do with dobermans ? And how tf do I crate train him and train him to walk behind me?
should I be crate training during the day? he doesn't mind going into his crate at night, but wondering if I need to crate train during the day when he's at home. he's 10 weeks old.
I have a Doberman puppy, 5 MO, wonderful and obedient. Crate during the day has been fantastic!
@@DOBERMANDUDE agreed I decided to stop being lazy and brought his crate down to the living room. What a difference, I realized puppies don't know they're tired until you put them in there and he's out within seconds for HOURS. then he gets up for meal and play times and for the ocassional cuddle and training! :D
@@vh187 dobermans fight their sleep. They don't want to miss anything. At least that's how mine is.
Yes crate him ASAP. It will keep him from getting into trouble. Chewing or eating stuff he shouldn't. If you are home to watch him then no crate, but leave him alone crate for sure.
@@gailscibelli9148 haha thanks! he's 8 months now and yes the fighting sleep thing is REAL. He's a big FOMO and will cry but I've trained myself to ignore him and within minutes he's asleep. He comes out with us during the entire day but when I'm busy working or my husband is asleep he goes in there to take his nap. Doing a lot better now, the crate in the morning was fantastic!
I have a 5 month old 60 pound female doberman that I am struggling with aggression which she has had since the day I brought her home from the breeder, I have had trainers come to our home for help but nothing seems to work, I am going to try these tips, she is crate trained, any suggestions anyone on her aggression that happens out of the blue
Holy shit! A 60 lb 5 month old FEMALE at that?! She’s gonna be massive… mine is going to be 6 months in a few days and he’s around 60 right now…. But to your post, how often are you home? And how much exercise does he get?
@@andrewzapata9420 I work from home so I am home all day, after I paid for her the breeder told me her mom is very aggressive so the trainer said it could be that reason but she was weaned at 4 weeks so a vet said she has 5 week puppy syndrome but she will be fine and just turn and attack and will not stop but after she's done she acts like nothing happened, I was told by the trainer to keep her in her crate 2 hours out a hour to try and help with aggression as for exercise she hates going for a walk and hates riding in a vehicle, I wish she loved it but she has full control of over an acre but even though she attacks me she wants to be with me all the time, I'm struggling, when she attacks I always say not today Shades and that she's a sweet angel but nothing has helped
@@chrystal8317 hmmm seems you have a unique case. They are very intelligent, and usually have a high prey drive, I’ll take my boy off leash to an open park and just throw the ball around and have him sprint all around chasing the ball…. I’ve also taught him to run all the way around a baseball field to get to me when I hop over the fence, really depletes his energy. Lots of creative ways out there, don’t give up, I’m sure with time, patience and alittle imagination you girls will be just fine!

Seizure activity -
Springer spaniel rage syndrome - temporal lobe seizures.
Shes heavy, right? shes prolly hypothyroid.
Very very possibly hypothyroid but will test out as normal thyroid if vet pulls blood. Super very common in dobes?
And also with her large weight + her mom had this, too? I'd get her on thy meds asap.
.1 mg per 10.lbs... is usual. Could start it a bit lower if needed. But hypothyroid? Ties into blood sugar levels n that ties into aggression. See?
Also if these are temporal lobe seizures? Then you're going to want to have her permanently on KBr. Potassium bromide which is a coarse grained substance that tastes bleh! But the cause of the seizures is calcium ions floating around in her brain. When you give the K Br? The Ca hooks n bumps up so it leaves the bromide ions in her brain which apparently do no harm, and the calcium ions become CaBr and are excreted out normally.
These rage attacks? Are they ever triggered off by food? Cheetos? Like that?
Seizures in general, can be worsened if you feed salty stuff to her. Its important to maintain a fairly constant level of one food n not play switcheroo or give many treats, and esp not treats w salt or sugar in them.
Does she get like her eyes, the pupils change color? when she does this?
Might want to always keep a collar on her at all times. Not a choke chain. So if needed and she actually bites someone or bites your face? You would have a way to pull her off. Dogs in seizure state can have super strength, too.
Doberman Home made best food?
have fostered dogs for years & am currently fostering a 1.5 y/o F Doberman. I'm worried for her, so I put her through GROUP obedience out of my pocket.
She lives with a male Weim-GSP, & female Am-Eng bulldog & 2 cats.
She is much better with people reactivity BUT her dog reactivity is AWFUL. She made small progess with big dogs & NO PROGRESS with the little schnauzer in the group class (EVERY class, multiple times she zones on the schnauzer & LUNGES, GROWLS, FROTHS). She's on a Herm sprenger & she hurts herself, gets frustrated & just spirals for a good 20 seconds (feels like eternity) before she goes in a sit (she doesn't relax, she is still clearly amped). We're redoing the 6 week GROUP class. She knows the commands, I need her have coping mechanism & impulse control around other dogs.
Do you have any advice on how I can stop the reactivity? It happens on leash walks too? I try to be proactive, but she knows EVERY house with a dog & the group class has dogs & becomes amped. I put her in sits, body block, "look at me" but she sits waiting me out (I have to go in the classroom &finish my dog walk, so it ends up with her hurting herself by herm sprenger correction pops or just lunging
AS I tell her leave it)
I have done this group class (1 & 2) with another dogs needing socializing & it's a great company with a good syllabus, spacious class etc.
See this post is 5 months old. Hope you were able to get that female dobe under control. Joel Beckman on TH-cam has a great channel on reactive dogs.

What the heck! You announ ed talk about training the Doberman, right? And what you did show us is a bunch of many dog breeds and not a one was Doberman.😮
Zeus will never live in a crate. He's broken no laws n will not be in a cage. Nope. Zeus is at home. Fortunately I'm retired n spend 24/7 with my doberman. It's really not difficult to train them, fifth most intelligent dog breed for a reason. The other tips were "ok"
The reason I'm planning to crate train my Doberman puppy is for his own safety when I have to be away from home (getting groceries, etc.). I want him to feel comfortable with hanging out in the crate for a limited time. I live alone in an apartment and my other options are limited (for example, I don't have a yard where puppy could potentially hang out etc). Other than when I have to be away from home I have no plans to make my puppy spend time in his crate, unless he just likes it and chooses to go in on his own accord.
I've been crate training dogs for 30years, don't ever use the crate as punishment...

If you're going to present a Dobermann specific show please address the following:
Only talk about and show Dobermanns.
Use the correct name. There is no such breed as a Doberman. In North America they are officially called 'Doberman Pinschers'. Rest of the world they are officially called 'Dobermanns'. Note the single 'n' for American and double 'nn' for rest of world.

Really wish some credible trainers would start calling out @americanstandardk9 for the hack he is
