    I've had a few people commenting to see if I can fix device. Well, if you're interested in having me try to fix your device, feel free to shoot me an email at fixmorewasteless@gmail.com. This isn't a paid service, just something I want to do to help those who need it. You'd be responsible for return shipping and any major parts like screens, so it's not a completely free service, but I'm not charging for the repair. Email me about your device and what the issue is and I'll let you know if I think I can help.

    A few times I’ve fixed this (when it wasn’t the ribbon cable) by saturating the sensor switch on the laser with isopropyl, press it a whole bunch then blow it dry with compressed air. Clean all the sensor switches while you’re in there I always say.
    I’ve also managed to stop it a couple times by cleaning and applying new lithium grease to the worm drive. As well as tightening the “arm” on the laser that grabs the worm drive.
    Once that problem is solved, we’ll find the laser pots need adjusting.
    Oh the joys of PS2 repair…
    You did a great job on this video!

    Thank you for this video, replaced the disc array and started getting this issue, tried reseating the cable but no change. Installing a new ribbon cable and now the PS2 works as intended!

    Can someone please for the life of me tell me what the tan peice behind the ribbon connecting to the Lazer is called and how I can fix it sliding off, can't put the ribbon in the Lazer and it's absolutely infuriating mr

      I think that’s the clip that holds the ribbon cable in place. If it’s broken off you’re not likely to find a replacement for it other than a complete laser assembly. But I would try taping the ribbon cable in place with some strong tape, not just Scotch tape to see if that holds it in place.

      @@FixMoreWasteLess it's not the clip it's the little tan/white piece that is glued to the back of the ribbon that inserts into the Lazer, I guess the adhesive wore out so it slides down Everytime I try to instead the ribbon back in and I can't get the ribbon to hold in it's slot

      Ohh okay. Yeah I’ve had that happen before. So annoying. I put a few pieces of tape on that are to help the clip catch better. Not sure if that’s a long term solution but it worked well enough. A drop of glue or glue stick might help it stick in place more permanently.

    so recently got a decent deal on a ps2 slim for $30 complete with 2 games but it mainly only plays cd's (only tested music disc for cd's but got a ps1 game incoming thps2 which I'll test as well), the previous seller sold it as parts but in semi working condition since it only sometimes worked with dvd games if he put a weight on the lid. I tried this weight trick but it only worked once for me and hasn't worked since but the music cd's were loading fine without weight.
    Tried the usually tray button tricks (that make the disc spin by holding down with tape or something) but it spins and gives up with cannot read disk (even with a new copy of gta 3). Do you think it could be more of a ribbon issue/motor/or laser?
    when manually moving the worm motor screw the laser moves but its not a smooth motion it needs a bit of force to move, the screw motor does have grease to the touch though so not sure it a re-greasing will help.

      This sounds like u might need a new ps2 laser replacement which seems to be common with the ps2 slims
      I just finished using this video to help replace my ps2 ribbon after damaging the ribbon cable in the process of replacing the laser. It stuttered a few times initially until it stopped after I fiddled with the ribbon again after replacing the laser. it wouldn't read discs at all despite attempting to for about 2 minutes. So thankfully I recognized the initial stuttering in this video so I figured I needed a new ribbon cable (I damaged it pulling it out of the old laser since it was so old and possibly kept in a hot place, the tab on the end of the ribbon slid right off the ribbon cable)
      Tldr: try replacing the laser first, then if still issue, then ribbon cable. Thank you!

    I don't have the issue with the sound and my PS2 Slim lets my game work properly.
    That being said, if I move the mechanical part down were you have to put the disc, the laser ribbon is banded up and I'm afraid it could damage my games.
    I don't know what to do, if I have to repair that or if it's something to not worry about. I'm very ignorant on this topics.

      Hi, if the ribbon cable’s bent up high enough it can end up scratching your discs. Something as simple as a piece of tap can help keep it down or super glue. Just be sure not to tap it down too far out. You don’t want the cable pulling on the connector on the laser. It’ll just wear down the ribbon cable leads.
      You only have to take the top cover off to get to the area you need.
      Best of luck!

    There's a similar colored ribbon cable next to the one you replaced in the video. Do you know what it's called or where to get a replacement?

    • @FixMoreWasteLess
      @FixMoreWasteLess  ปีที่แล้ว

      The one attached to the little motor that moves the laser? It’s the worm motor or motor gear and I don’t think you can get just the ribbon cable. You have to buy the motor and gear with the ribbon attached.

    Bro my laser ribbon clip is not tight when i put the ribbon and shut it the ribbon comes out easily ? Any solution ??

    • @FixMoreWasteLess
      @FixMoreWasteLess  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd try placing a piece of tape or two on the top part of the ribbon that goes into the connector to see if that gives the clip more to grip. If that still pulls out easily, maybe just a piece of tape over the connector and tape. I wouldn't use glue or anything permanent. Otherwise, the clip on the laser might be broken to the point it doesn't do anything and then you'd have to replace the laser itself.

    I just tore my personal ps2 down to clean it and it started doing that luckily I was able to figure out the white tab on the ribbon cable came off and I had to put it back on and clean the connector on the ribbon cable and it worked

    Since you have the tools (microscope etc), why not inspect the "damaged" ribbon cable and see if you could fix it.
    Would be a much more interesting video than replacing it. The point of your channel is to fix more waste less lol.
