after reading the description i realized that i wasn’t even alive yet when this was filmed but i am so sorry for your losses but i’m glad that all of you got to have such memorable experiences before
Been there, done that in Jamaica, thirty-five years ago. I had 32 spines in the bottom of my right foot. You didn't just "go to the doctor" in Negril. I kept my foot soaking in a pan of urine until we found someone who could help. The pain was pretty intense and the urine helped tremendously. Finally, I went to the "clinic," a concrete block building with plyboard interior partitions for three treatment rooms and a waiting room, curtains for doors. There was a window unit A.C. in the rear that blew cold air into a cardboard duct that distributed it into the four rooms. The spines are like charcoal. When you grab them with tweezers, they crumble. We'd already tried that, and it hurt like hell. The doctor had a scalpel that he had ground down narrow, sharpened the edges, and put a crook on the end. He would push the scalpel down in my foot next to the spine, hook the tip of the scalpel under the tip of the spine and "flick" it out. No anesthesia....not even aspirin. He got about half of them out, the largest ones. The smaller ones he left for my body to absorb. The damage flicking them out would have been worse than the small spines. I bit quite deeply into the spine of a paperback book I had. The doctor knew what he was doing....not his first bbq. He was deft, efficient and quick. I was very, very thankful. The scars on the bottom of my foot took over a year to go away. The ones that he didn't flick out were the last ones to fade away.

Tips of the urchin spines/quill(s) are broken off under the skin. It is not ink. They do require removal as they will fester. They are very difficult to remove with tweezers, as they are similar to sandstone rock. When you pull on them, they fragment. The use of a scalpel is best. Make 1-2mm incision and pry them out.

Dec 2003 - Diana Blackburn. So this one time I got a tattoo from a sea urchin. I was snorkeling on Maui, Hawaii. This was during the whole Team Evolution project. We were all across the street from our condo having some leisure time. I spotted an underwater arch/cave looking reef thing about 20ft deep. I said, "Hey Wyat watch this. I'm going to swing under that reef arch!" I held my breath and swam down to swim under the arch. As I approached it, I was a little apprehensive. But I had to go through with it. From up at the surface it looked harmless. Once I got closer, it was a little scary looking. It was dark under there and I started thinking about eels. I went for it anyways. As I swam through it the water shifted and that scared me. It felt like I was going to get pushed into the coral. So I panicked and kicked really hard to swim out of there fast! I kicked the top of the reef arch with my heel and ouch that hurt!! Wyat was watching me and as I swam to the surface he could tell something was wrong. The sea urchin spikes went through my flipper. Wyat held me up in the water so we could look at my heel. It was ugly. Big long spikes were sticking out of my heel. I didn't know what it was and thought it was maybe something poisonous that I could die from. Wyat helped me swim to shore. Fruitcake and Chmelecki came over to help. We weren't sure if I needed to go to the emergency room so we called our good friend Jimmy Hall who was a shark diving ocean expert. We described what happened and he said, "Oh that's just a sea urchin. It will hurt, but it's not poisonous." Boy oh boy was I relieved!! So Wyat and Fruitcake helped me walk to our condo across the street. Then the sea urchin spike removal surgery began. Chmelecki filmed it and laughed at my pain. Wyat tried to remove the spikes the best he could, but they were brittle and kept breaking off. I sucked it up, dealt with the pain and we continued our awesome Hawaii project/vacation. The sea urchin spikes left a tattoo in my heel that lasted for about 2 weeks. What a trip! Now I know what it's like to get the wrath of the mighty sea urchin sting! The life of an adventure girl! Jimmy Hall died May 9, 2007 in a base jumping incident. Wyat Drewes died August 10, 2007 in a motorcycle accident.
Daredevil Girl You're supposed to pee on them. It makes them dissolve Because the urine is acidic. Sea urchin spikes have barbs pointing in the opposite direction making them break when you try to pull them out. So technically it's not that they're brittle, They're just constantly breaking because the barbs prevent you from pulling them out smoothly.
Shannon March Peeing on them actually works. I was impaled on the back of my heel while vacationing in Jamaica. I had nothing to lose and I was in the shower anyway, so I tried it. I recovered rather quickly after that. Within a day.
Just sharing a bit of knowledge here because I grew up in Africa and used to fish a lot in areas filled with Urchins, if you get stinged by one, try putting your feet in vinegar. Urchins spikes are calcarious and if you put an acid to the mix like vinegar, it will dissolve them. That's how we used to take care of them... vinegar.
The nurse at the resort clinic treated my foot by spraying vinegar. The acid will dissolve the sting. After one hour it's gone. she said, lime or lemon will also do the trick... in an island where no vinegar is available, use urine. It has acid too.
Thank you! I have read about all of your remedies over the years in the comments. I like the vinegar option best if this ever happens again. Vinegar has so many great uses!

Then you will be recovery like nothing happened on 3 hours. Trust me, i got stung a thousand times. We had a lot in some virgin island here, in indonesia

A few years ago, about 25, there was a huge urchin industry here in Maine. The divers, myself included were getting hundreds of those spines in our hands from handling them. A Doctor in the area started using a new technique for removing them. It was electrical. Guessing high frequency and high voltage, low amps. First he would prescribe an antibiotic, Cephlxin to help relieve the infection. About a week later, you would go back and he would knumb your hand and burn those things out. You sat on an electrical pad and the needle like thing was energized to electricly burn those out. I used to know what the deice was called, but he used to burn off warts with it too. Others guys paid for expensive surgery, but his way was the most cost effective. It would leave you with bleeding holes in your hands, but the pain and urchin spines were gone for th most part. As I began bleeding, He once stated that one of the first things thay taught him in medical school was: "All bleeding will eventually cease".

Daredevil Girl lol omg girl I bet me id be scared to go bak in lol and if I do Im wearin shoes lol so how does it look now did it scar? Or did it go away?
lol yeah water shoes will help, just stay clear of he sea urchins! The ink spots and spikes stayed in my foot for about 3 weeks. My body just absorbed it I guess and the spikes came out eventually like splinters. It was weird.

Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience and your friends lives and when they left this earth. I know that they will always be there with you in your heart. I'm super glad your attack didn't make you sick but it would have been an amazing tattoo if it would have stayed
Very painful experience but in addition to alleviate pain with all the aforementioned remedies please note the following: 1. If they're very small spines they'll usually dissolve on their own, pee or no pee; 2. You cannot remove them by just pulling them out with a tweezer because they have microscopic barbs that prevent them to be pulled out. You need to use a sharp needle to cut the skin around the spine; 3. If they're large spines it will be able easier to pull out but while pressing around it as if it were a zit. Know that large ones will never dissolve...eventually your skin cells will sooner or later push the spine out towards the surface making it easier to pull out.
Mine were pretty big. They were sticking out about an inch out of my foot when it first happened. But they broke off trying to remove them. Very brittle. At about 3 weeks my skin pushed them out and I could squeeze and pull them out with tweezers.
Oh my I am so sorry for your loss Diana, my heart goes out to you for the toll that must have taken to deal with, I recently went to maui and when I was diving I was super afraid of those urchin! In fact I was staying in Kihei so I was mostly focused on the turtles at the closest beach and painting the sunset most nights, but besides my rambling, I hope that your foot is completely normal again. Ps. I also have had experience getting stung by sea creatures. I was stung by a stingray a few years back and it was awful lmao🤟🏽shaka my friend
Thank you! Yes, I'm totally healed. This was years ago. A very strange snorkeling incident for sure! I love swimming wtih the sea turtles too. That is one of my favorite things to do on this planet. Oh I've seen videos about the stingray sting. Looks VERY painful!!
Daredevil Girl oh yea it was but tbh I dont regret it happening. We got my reaction on video and it was hilarious. Which sounds bad but I was blubbering so much it is funny to see again
Useful tip for anything in the sea that stings like an urchin. Light a candle, drip wax thickly over the area. Wait for it to set, then peel it off. That should bring the spines out with it or at least nearer the surface, so you can get them with tweezers.
Sea urchins are spiny, globular echinoderms in the class Echinoidea. About 950 species of sea urchin live on the seabed of every ocean and inhabit every depth zone - from the intertidal seashore down to 5,000 metres. The spherical, hard shells of sea urchins are round and spiny, ranging in diameter from 3 to 10 cm.
I read the description and I wanted to say I’m sorry for your loss. That’s crazy they both passed away like that. At least they went out doing what they loved right? 🤷🏼♀️❤️✌🏼
What are the odds that two people who know each other well and are friends die in the same year due to totally different causes. Well rest in peace jimmy and wyat
Thank you. Didn't mean to depress anyone. I was just telling a story. Such is life. People die. Only one person in the actual video is dead. And that is the red head trying to take the spikes out of my heel. Jimmy, who is also dead, I described in the story, but he is not part of the video itself. Jimmy was important because he is the reason I didn't go to the emergency room and healed on my own. But hey life is good now despite all the sadness.
My trick for getting these out. Learned this in Mexico. Drip hot candle wax from a tallow candle, or mix wax and oil heated on a spoon. The lubed spine often just rises out.
You can remove urchin sting easly by rub in with normal food oil then close to heat or fire .. you will see the urchin thistles jump out .. this advise i try it by my self and it is work ... sorry about my english
Sea urchin spikes are actually pretty hard to remove... they are so brittle and the way they’re designed is the more you try to yank it out, the more it will lodge itself deeper.. the slightest pressure pushes it in even more..
When you get sea urchin spikes, the best treatment is to apply plenty of iodine and wait 12 hours. I was born in Cuba and it happened to me constantly in the reefs of the sea.
This is like that pesky thorn that breaks off at the bottom of your epidermis and hella irritates the poke site, eventually being covered with skin. Then, after days and even weeks of being tormented by a millimeter long piece of wood, you have to go in with tweezers, tear open your skin and dig around the reallt sensitive area to try and pull it out, wincing and squirming cause the area is raw, inflamed, and the splinter fragment refuses to come out, instead poking deeper into your dermis and giving you tiny jolts of pain. Once you've made a crater and gotten the damn thing out though, you're so overwhelmed with relief and joy that the relentless cycle of abuse is finally over, even though it's from a piece of debris you can hardly even see when you pull it out. The kicker, though, is since it's so thin and tiny, when you pull it out, it falls out of the tweezers and ends up on the floor, just waiting for you to slide your foot across the ground so it can come back into your life like an ex girlfriend that somehow found your new phone number and address. Good news, through, is that even if you make contact with it again, it's so small that it doesn't have the necessary mass for the force of a step to wedge it back into your skin, especially since the bottom of a human foot is covered with a thick layer of thick, tough, dead skin that deflects foreign objects much larger and more threatening than a measly aolubtwe. You never know though, and you can't ever be totally sure that you're safe. It's like that ex girlfriend that you blocked on social media AGAIN and didn't tell your new phone number and address to AGAIN. Even though you've now switched around a second time, and there should be no way for her to find you AGAIN, if she did the seemingly impossible ijce, she could beep well do it again. Daunting for sure, but you'll just have to hope that she doesn't find you and renew the cycle of pain AGAIN. Can never be entirely sure, though. Let ALL of that stress and anxiety sink in, buddy. She and the microscopic splinter are coming for you. Hope and respite are never guaranteed...
i had the same thing happen and believe it or not, you are supposed to leave them in and soak in warm water. the spines resolve after a few days into sand and minerals and your forget about it.

SkirtSkirt Skirt thank you!
TH-cam takes me to the weirdest places😳
It's some kind of magic, isn't it?
Daredevil Girl now ur a mermaid! lol ouch looks painful☹️
lol that's a positive outlook :) it was painful, but healed up just fine. Now whenever I go snorkeling in Hawaii and swim near a bunch of sea urchins I get a little bit panicky not gonna lie...
Don't let this distract you from the solid fact that Red Lobsters Ultimate Feast price went up $4 and the portions got noticeably smaller and you only get 4 biscuits instead of 5 for a table of 2!!! Not fooling me!!
This is terrible news. :(
😂😂😂😂 thank you for informing us!
This is really bad news
Your Hunting Buddy Thank God you're on watch though! God bless ya brother! 😂
One of the reasons suicide exists.
RIP to your 2 friends, these years where good times glad they got to experience them, atleast you guys have great memories. Hope you and the rest of your friends are doing well. Idk why this got me thinking lol
For all those dishonest folk who keep posting "why am I here"/"I'm on the weird side of TH-cam" why don't you just accept your curiosity, we all find stuff like this interesting, it's human nature. ps. Please stop slowing down for car wrecks, that just causes infuriating traffic problems - that's what Liveleak is for.

Video tips
* Let subject move, and hold camera still.
* Make sure your camera focuses on details
* Angle your camera to show subject, not back of somebody's hand.
* Remove from YT old videos that are fuzzy or do not show anything.
To add, 480p is garbage.

@kylie jenner You and 20 million other people...
Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience and your friends lives and when they left this earth. I know that they will always be there with you in your heart.
I'm super glad your attack didn't make you sick but it would have been an amazing tattoo if it would have stayed
Very painful experience but in addition to alleviate pain with all the aforementioned remedies please note the following:
1. If they're very small spines they'll usually dissolve on their own, pee or no pee;
2. You cannot remove them by just pulling them out with a tweezer because they have microscopic barbs that prevent them to be pulled out. You need to use a sharp needle to cut the skin around the spine;

@@ms.voidwolf7141 love that movie.
Told my little nephew if he would like to see "surfs up" he said noo. Then we watched it. And he couldn't get over the sea urchin scene.

Seemed like Booz was at play. And those tweezers pissed me off dull and rounded ahh made me wanna scream.

In December 2003, that young lady had the perfect body. What a knockout. Whoever she is, I hope she’s living a great, sea urchin free life in 2022.
Anyone here with me in 2018???
Hello?
Daredevil Girl Good morning.
Me
Yea
Nick 101 Space yeah!!...but I wish I hadn’t bothered!!!
Useful tip for anything in the sea that stings like an urchin.
Light a candle, drip wax thickly over the area. Wait for it to set, then peel it off. That should bring the spines out with it or at least nearer the surface, so you can get them with tweezers.
Vince Voyeur I've heard this recently. That's cool. It this happens again, I'll have to try that. :)
I forgot to mention that after removing the spines, you squeeze lemon juice over it. Acts as a disinfectant, but hurts like heck!
how the hell did i get here
That's my question to.
+Understrum Sans i was watching gaming videos
Mine is actually logical. I came from an ingrown toenail removal video. Unless you are used to blood, I wouldn't recommend looking it up.
Diamond Dog I put my head through a window by accident and tore my flesh open with blood gushing out.. I think im good for blood seeing :P
iiScarFace I want to be a surgeon when I grow up so I'm used to it too.
Thank you. That's very kind of you. And yes, they both went out doing something they loved. :)
What are the odds that two people who know each other well and are friends die in the same year due to totally different causes. Well rest in peace jimmy and wyat

This video gets around.
good video but reading the description is depressing AF. It's all like 'Oh and most of the people in this video are now dead" in unrelated incidents.
I'm sure Wyat was a good man gnarly too
My trick for getting these out. Learned this in Mexico. Drip hot candle wax from a tallow candle, or mix wax and oil heated on a spoon. The lubed spine often just rises out.
IT BURNS GOOD

•watermelon Moon• she asked what if she left them in her foot but the spines look like the skin formed over them after some time has passed.
oH
Sea urchin spikes are actually pretty hard to remove... they are so brittle and the way they’re designed is the more you try to yank it out, the more it will lodge itself deeper.. the slightest pressure pushes it in even more..
Yes, this is what I experience first hand. We couldn't remove them, just had to let them come out on there own.

The best way to remove them is with an neddle. You just have to gently find the opening and move them around and slowly they will come out.

When you get sea urchin spikes, the best treatment is to apply plenty of iodine and wait 12 hours. I was born in Cuba and it happened to me constantly in the reefs of the sea.
So sad to hear about the loss of your friends.
Thank you.
+Daredevil Girl I've been stung also and have these black spots on my foot too... will check on it today. Hope it goes well...
