I think it's not hard to have normal levels of sympathy to someone who ruined their own life from addiction... addiction is a health issue and hereditary, not to mention that it usually points to a lot of suffering in someone's life to turn to that point...
Why is it hard to be sympathetic to someone in pain that only ruined their own lives? It's like imagining being somewhat sympathetic to people who commit suicide... most people understand that they have to be in a great amount of pain and despair to do so and it's the same for those with addictions

She is such a disgusting vile human being. They have released some of her jail phone calls and all she does is worry about herself. Never a mention of her victims, never asks how the living victims are doing, never expresses remorse for killing a young woman on her wedding night.... constantly things like "Why is this happening to me? I am going to be here for years and years, my life is over! I don't want people to look at me negatively, people are gonna be so mean to me!" Literally she killed a woman, she took her life and SHE is crying that HER life is over. I really hope she does not get off easy. She has already been given special treatment in jail by being allowed to have in person visits with family and friends which is not usually granted to other inmates. Her family is trash as well. The mom killed a fireman (Jeffrey Scheuerer) in 2013 as he was fighting a fire, smoke was so thick it covered the fireman and the truck but while other motorists slowed down because of the huge cloud of smoke, the mom did not slow down and hit and killed the fireman. That was ruled a "tragic accident" and no charges were filed. The brother of the fireman was furious and stated that had she actually slowed down like others did when seeing this huge cloud of smoke too thick to see through, his brother would likely not have died. The drunk woman has been going on and on about getting off on bail and doesn't think she will have to serve time, etc and her mindset is probably "well my mom hit and killed a decorated firefighter and nothing happened to her so now that I have hit and killed someone, nothing will happen to me either" And the drunk girls father? He is in a phone recording telling her "You don't have to be sorry. We don't care about what happened. It doesn't matter. We don't care about anything but you." You can 100% be there for, care for and help your kid, while acknowledging she SHOULD be sorry for the rest of her life, she stole a womans life, and she SHOULD care about what happened. She took a womans life and severely injured 3 others. And her parents act like, no biggie baby, you did nothing wrong. It is just so disgusting the more and more that comes out. And her social media pages? Woof. I really hope they throw the book at her and she gets the maximum possible sentence.

I have no sympathy for drunk drivers. They make a conscious decision to get drunk and get behind the wheel with no regard for others. Having an alcoholic problem is no excuse. Seek help. If you don’t want help with addiction, sit at home and drink. There are consequences for every action. The victim’s family and husband has a lifetime of grief due to her own selfish acts. She destroyed many lives to include her own.

I have had friends on both ends, I had a friend who was the greatest guy, had a huge job with ESPN then one night he went to some event had one too many and killed a person, unlike others he had huge remorse and wanted to kill himself he did around 7 years, BUT then I have friends who were the greatest parents to their 3 daughters, lived for them, their youngest went to Hunington Beach for spring break with friends and their college age daughter also went, they did everything right not drinking and driving, well on one night there their youngest daughter that was 17 and 3 of their friends we’re heading somewhere their other daughter stayed back at hotel thankfully (as they would’ve lost two daughters that night) when a very drunk driver Bani Duarte who had already been stopped by random people /drivers at a stoplight and asked if she needed a ride, she denied it and sped off, that group of people called 911 to report her as they were on the phone with 911 they watched in horror her hitting my friend’s daughter and friends car, they were trapped in the car, all of the 17 year olds (4 in total) were banging on the windows to get out, witnesses all tried when suddenly the car blew up, at a last minute 1 boy got out but unfortunately my friends daughter & her 2 fellow friends burned alive and died that night. Later we found out Bani Duarte had a prior dui, she ended up getting 53 years but my friends life and the other parents are forever changed. They keep her room the way it was before she left. There’s no excuse to drink and drive it’s beyond selfish and a Uber is so cheap compared to a life, if you can’t afford a Uber ride don’t drink.

Lisa wanted that money for herself, and believes the husband shouldn’t be entitled to it simply because they were only married for 3 hours. Even in this interview ( 2:40 ) she doesn’t come across as a grieving mother, this feels more like woe it’s me act. Whereas Sam’s sister, you can really hear the hurt and pain in her voice when she spoke.

she drank because she was harboring anger, anxiety and depression? I see the anxiety and anger at suffering the consequences of her actions..but, where's the depression?? you would think you'd hear, i feel so bad about what i did...i just want to kill myself...i wish it was me and not her...I can't live with myself anymore....something along those lines..And, now that she's sober...I still don't see the depression??? It's a good defense...probably one that's worked before...not just for her but for others. Is the depression documented or just a term being thrown around ? maybe, we'll see , I'm still trying to keep an open mind because I don't have all of the facts.

regarding using a golf cart---they're just coming from a once in a lifetime, public, meaningful contract and heavy commitment---let them do what they want to solidify that. They checked the cart out, consciously and conscientiously for street safety---probably staying within their budget (no limo) and making the end of an evening slow, never ending and special to them and their wedding. Disney uses a horse drawn carriage, so what? The speed was posted---25 mph ---which is why they probably used that street. and, we don't have the facts, that cart may have been used several times before without a problem.

She didn’t do it on purpose, but she is an adult. She made a choice to drive home after drinking. If she has any remorseful thoughts, that needs to be said to the family, she needs to apologize. Words are hollow, but it’s better than behaving the way she is.

The pressure to drink amongst coworkers in a restaurant is super real. Anyone that has ever worked in a restaurant knows how prevalent it is, and knows the feeling of not wanting to go out, but going anyway because you do want to remain on the schedule for good shifts. I pray this story makes it back to at least a few people involved in this lifestyle that will think twice about the next time they get invited to go out.

There is such a simple solution for this! Just don't drive your car to work. Take public transit, a cab, Uber, or have a rotating designated driver. And if you are a selfish idiot that just can't abstain from drinking and driving, perhaps don't do triple the speed limit.

Outrageous that someone would have bond denied for punitive reasons. She is awaiting trial. She has been adjudicated guilty on ZERO charges. To remain in jail for 13 months awaiting trial it must be proven that she represents a serious flight risk (she doesn’t) or is highly likely to reoffend (unlikely). The fact that the alleged victims demand the satisfaction of seeing her in prison and got it means that the presumption of innocence is DEAD.
