Awesome! I'm 60 yrs old and have only recently discovered TH-cam. Now all I want to do is sit here and watch these videos. I have been grinning from ear to ear, filled with beautiful memories. All of you, keep 'em coming!
Welcome! I have some of these songs on CD's- and before that on vinyl! - but there's something so special about just listening to a song you like and sharing comments with other music lovers. I'm seventy and I find myself sometimes (nicely) correcting something someone has said about a song that came out in the '60s. I've always been a music lover! Hope you enjoy yourself! Woops - you've been here for twelve years - hope you're still listening!
I am black, and although l like some country and western music, l wouldn't say I'm an ardent lover. That is, not until l heard this. l dig the hell out of this song. I was watching Osage County, a 2014 movie starring, Meryl Streep. Excellent movie, and I've watched it twice just to hear the song.
This and many other tunes healed the years wasted between my daddy and me. He passed away in 2009 of colon cancer, I can finally type the word without tears for now anyway. I'll always remember those times he'd crank up the stereo and be taken to another place, out of his misery if even for a short time. .....
I heard it the other day when I was at local pharmacy, quickly pulled out my phone to add to my TH-cam favorites or risk losing that bit of my history with my husband of 33 years who passed away May 2020. Both of us would have been able to sing this song, you know how it is, the memories, places & songs that tie you together - that we never forget. This is for you babe, miss you so damned much.
As of today, March 20th 2020 I've been playing guitar for 1 year. Eric Clapton is one of the people have inspired me so much. I wanna thank him for his music. Just thank you so much Eric. Happy early birthday as well
There is nothing that is wrong In wanting you to stay here with me I know you've got somewhere to go But won't you make yourself at home and stay with me? And don't you ever leave Lay down, Sally, and rest here in my arms Don't you think you want someone to talk to? Lay down, Sally, no need to leave so soon I've been trying all night long just to talk to you Sun ain't nearly on the rise We still got the moon and stars above Underneath the velvet skies, love is all that matters Won't you stay with me? Don't you ever leave Lay down, Sally, and rest here in my arms Don't you think you want someone to talk to? Lay down, Sally, and no need to leave so soon I've been trying all night long just to talk to you I long to see the morning light Color in your face so dreamily So don't you go and say goodbye You can lay your worries down and stay with me And don't you ever leave Lay down, Sally, and rest here in my arms Don't you think you want someone to talk to? Lay down, Sally, there's no need to leave so soon I've been trying all night long just to talk to you Lay down, Sally, and rest here in my arms Don't you think you want someone to talk to? Lay down, Sally, there's no need to leave so soon I've been trying all night long just to talk to you
what is amazing about this song is that there's no blistering, spellbinding guitar solo, no wa-wa peddle, but you get this awesome song with great drums that kind of makes the whole song
I always thought he was singing, “Lay down the salad and rest here in my arms.” I just assumed she was going to a potluck supper and he was trying to get her to stay home. 😂😂😂
I Don't know what it is with this song. I love most Clapton songs. They are all good. But sitting together with people, talking about Clapton songs like "Tears in Heaven", "Wonderfull tonight" or "Layla"...(i could say much about this songs)...but all can i hear in my head is the loud tune of "Lay down Sally". ALL THE TIME. It is so awesome. I love it.
Back in the day, one of the boys would always crash out after some shots/bong loads on the couch. The others and myself made it a tradition to play this when he crashed. We all called him Sally lol. Good times I miss them daze
I always considered this song country-rock, even back in the 70's. After hearing this album for the first time, I could've swore Clapton was some country guy from rural Georgia. There is a country influence all throughout the album.
My favorite Eric Clapton song. I loved it from the second I first heard it. Clapton has many great songs as we all know. However this song is his absolute best.
June 1989 Toronto: My first game at SkyDome. Going to our seats in Section 518, Lay Down Sally was bursting through the PA system. Everytime I hear it, I am back at the brand new dome...
I never took it as R&roll,.have no idea who ever came up with classing up great songs anyway,.think they even bunched all there hits together the fools,.
This song reminds me of being in a Japanese super market, i thought it was interesting that they where playing western music in the store. The song got stuck in my head so i looked it up, now whenever i want to be back in that Japanese supermarket with its mirrored walls and bright neon spaceships on the back wall i play this song. thanks Eric.
In August 1984, we visited my Mum and her Husband in LA and spent a glorious day at Hermosa Beach, Mum put on Slow Hand and we had the best day imaginable.. the perfect music for that day in that place.. in August 2013, Mum departed this world and this song and album takes me back there, with her to that glorious place and time.. I love this song and album..
Eric Clapton is timeless & the epitome of coolness that near fades or goes out of style. I just never get tired of this song & Mr. Clapton's musical catalog is so wide & diverse from Cream, to the Yardbirds, to Derek & the Dominoes, & his solo work. It just astonishes me how Eric just gets better with age. :)
My Deddy (would be 94) had this album. My 90 year old Mama has it with some other absolutely incredible vinyl of the vintage type. I mean Hard Days Night (the right one), Meet The Beatles (yeah… ) and so many Classic Country albums. ALL Kenny Rogers albums. How bout the Soundtrack to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly? Man… used to play along with that on my trumpet in 6th grade. Damn… I’ll be 53 this Friday. Wish I could just wake up on any 1970’s Sunday morning with Deddy playing the stereo. I’d give… everything.
When I was just a youngin my pops and I used to take the old yellow heavy Chevy out to the lake fishing and crank this AWESOME o'l tune. Live it tday, and until forever
.....man o man....this is some good guitar strummin' in this song...so good it makes my whole body feel the deep hand strummin' ..BAD ASS ERIC CLAPTON!!!!!

You picked an awesome one to learn! I’ve been playing guitar for 48 years and I’ll tell you it’s worth all the effort! Keep it up!
@@bubbasouth6948 years?! Holy you know what!!! I bet you could pick up a crappy guitar and start playing like it's nothing!

Unbelievable. The song didn't change itself. 😱
And it always will, love.
If Eric keeps pickin at it like that, that sore will never heal. Geetar players know what I mean 👍

My foot becomes very heavy for some reason.
Yep - especially when overtaking an 18-wheeler on the inside of a curve in the expressway. Seriously, I'm kidding - don't ever try that.
Alguien en 2023 sigue escuchando esta maravillosa canción del maestro Clapton?

I know you've got somewhere to go
But won't you make yourself at home and stay with me?
And don't you ever leave
Lay down, Sally, and rest here in my arms
Don't you think you want someone to talk to?
Lay down, Sally, no need to leave so soon
I've been trying all night long just to talk to you
Sun ain't nearly on the rise
We still got the moon and stars above
Underneath the velvet skies, love is all that matters
