Love this game and have wasted way too many hours in it. Just so you know there is now a pause option accessed via the journal. As for the tools breaking issue, when I first started I focused more on getting a collection of back up tools rather than get stuck outside shop hours. Instead of letting the tool break while out and about I put them into a storage chest if they are low on life and take out a new one. Now my tools are a much higher grade so they don't break as much but I did put time and resources into upgrading all my almost broken tools ( the ones that can be upgraded that is). I still use the same method though so when a tool gets near the end of its life I store it in the tool chest and when all of the tools in that chest are nearly broken then I buy a repair kit, fill my backpack with all the tools and repair the whole lot. I haven't bought any new tools for ages.
Thanks SO much for mentioning you can’t pause the game. I need a relaxing game to play on the steam deck, but no pausing goes exactly against the kind of game I’m looking for, whereas otherwise this seemed perfect. Small detail, but I appreciate you mentioned it!
Solid review! felt like I was watching an IGN review. great editing, straight to the point, note exactly on what's good and bad and the overall experience. I just found out about this game on steam via a sale. I never played animal crossing nor Stardew, but I'm looking for something to just play and relax.
Looks great for the most part. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the environment and the graphics. I feel like these types of life sims need really good charm to go the extra mile.
@@notahamster333 Yeah I will say I'm not the biggest fan of the red dirt / sand, but the game is still very fun for the most part. A more foresty or brighter green environment would be sweet eventually.
The art style is very stereotypical. As an Australian, I promise the country is much prettier than this game would have you believe. Yes it's mostly outback, but everyone lives in the green coastal parts. He should have based it on Tasmania. Beautiful state, similar to New Zealand.
Sweet review! A nice, quick overview. But I have two questions - First, I saw the energy bar on the top left. Does it deplete rapidly or reasonably? I assume you can farm your own crops and cook them into meals to get energy back? Second, so the Coop functions more like Animal Crossing, where you visit the island of a friend without having your own house there? Will both have to sleep in a bed to advance the time?
Yeah the coop is more like animal crossing in that sense where your friend is just visiting. Energy isn't too bothersome here. It does deplete as you perform tasks, but food is everywhere and replenishes quite quickly
One thing I don't like about the game, kinda annoying, is that if I don't host the "world" I can't manage the village at all, only the host can. So, no deeds, no moving houses, no house creation
Great review BlueSuit. I'm curious if you have tried NeonBlight? I work for Freedom - I got a free copy for you if interested :) I also featured you on the freedom central channel. Let me know if interested.
Hey thanks for the review, do you know if you can play with controllers yet ? And if I want to play with the wife I'll need to buy 2 copys and play on 2 PC is that right ? And if so, will she be able to interact with my world or just watch and do nothing ? Thanks for answering!
There is partial controller support that works pretty well, better on kb&m imo. And yes you'll need two copies of the game on 2 pcs. She'll definitely be able to interact with your island and do everything you can do. She just won't have a permanent residence on your island like you will
if you wanna game that's like stardew valley then go for SunHaven. I already beat it, but you can live and share multiple farms with your wife. There are quests and an actual storyline to follow as well, so it's super fun!
Many of the issues stated in the video can be alleviated my modding the game, there are quite a few mods in nexus. It's not ideal but quite honestly i couldn't enjoy this game without mods. The vanilla game is too slow for my taste, but i understand why it happens since it's pretty much heavily inspired in Animal Crossing.
i did hear it will eventually come out on switch but everyone should remember that its one developer whos working so hard and still doing updates on the early access
In sandrock, the world and characters felt more alive, but here you can customize everything a lot more and there's coop. So overall your world in dinkum will feel a lot more unique and personalized
i don't like how fletch didn't tell me about health first and i got bitten by a crocodile and i passed out and was picked up by 2 guys and they stole some of my dinks and my tools got damaged. :/ the tutorial could be a LOT better. What do fruit trees look like, what makes them look different, cause i don't see fruit in them... i guess small ones, but not all small ones are fruit ones. what about how to put things in your inventory how to take it out... etc... :/ :(
Having now played the game i find my self having many gripes with it, for one not being able to remap your controller button in game is asinine as you find your self wanting to remap the A and B buttons X or O for PSX controllers, there is no gender options in game and very limited character creation system with too few colors and presets, while most characters look like literal potatoes. This game desperately needs and auto save feature or a way to save your game other then sleeping as most likely you will loose a whole days progress, also not being able to pause is a big problem as stated in this review, as when you need to go AFK you will find your self being killed by wildlife upon return. While there is not gender in the game then its highly likely that marriage system will not be implemented after the games release as it was with Stardew Valley. My final gripes is the fact there is not volume slider for the highly irritating voices in the game, i find my self disabling them altogether, while it could have been bearable if you could make them less obnoxious and loud. Furthermore if you run this game on anything other then a modern gaming PC you will get HUGE LAG spikes during game play where your FPS suddenly dips into single digits when it usually runs around 60, i have a decent gaming laptop but the lag spikes are a complete deal beaker for me, as the FPS dips consistently every 30 seconds of gameplay, this needs to be addressed post haste!
Definitely not to the degree of minecraft, but still kind of yes. The way it works in dimkum is that you pick up a "block" of dirt and place it down one at a time. It would take longer to do serious terraforming and it won't be like minecraft, but it is there
@@Bluesuit You can get tools to help with terraforming like the compactor that you get from the scientist. it's a machine that destroy blocks really quickly. There are other tools too but kind of expensive so i don't know entirely what they all do yet.
Animal Crossing: New Horizon on PC, and set in AU. Enough mechanics to be different and not just a copied version of the game it pays homage to (*cough* Stardew Valley). Makes me wonder if there's enough here to make it worthy of play, as AC series has become less involved with playing together, and more focused on bland, very pointless busy work. I miss being able to play mini games with my residents on a more regular basis. An upgrade to their functionality would have been the best upgrade, rather than adding more wooden plank personalities.
You and three friends can all play on one map. They basically can visit your island whenever you're on and hosting. You can also open it up to the public, but its not recommended. No dedicated servers yet either
to be fair, literally only 1 developer on this game. I do hope the dev expands on mining and gear and more harder enemies to kill with friends and pets and so much more. This game has extreme potential. I dont want this to be another Farming Sim again
Looking at Stardew and minecraft being created with only 1 dev and seeing where those games are now I have no doubt Dinkum can be another one of those.
Ive recently downloaded Coral Island which is similar to this style of game, and I found it doesnt have much story involvements with any of the characters. Theres no incentive to improve character relationships. Is that the case with this game or are there character quests to complete?
Why don't they let you go in for free to the mine? Did it change? THe facial features don't change, the nose and eyes do, but you can't move them around, the eyes closer together, and not many hairstyles, hats, etc... not many skins, hair, etc. i feel disapointed, but it is cute. :o Why can't you change the shorts, but you can pick a shirt. the tutorial is poor in my opinion. Step 1 do la la la... like pick fruit for exammple.. what kind of trees, how you know which are which, health how to bring it up quickly and tools not being damaged so muuuchhh! :(((
