- After Joan of Arc was shot in the chest with an arrow both the English and French assume the worst, that the grievous wound would be her end. After pulling out the arrow herself and passing out a long night of questions are answered when she wakes up at dawn and insights the army to attack using a siege tower. The only problem is she insists on pushing it to the walls.... backwards???? Directed by Luc Besson Staring Milla Jovovich, John Malkovich, Rab Affleck, Dustin Hoffman and Faye Dunaway.

When the gate fell, those poor guards that spawned right after it began to fall, hate it when that happens.
one of my favorite battle scenes of all time..... so gory so brutal hard to fathom men once fought like this.

LOL, my dad works with the grey beard actor at 5:28. The actor likes talking about his experience in the movie and he said that most actors were smoking marijuana on set behind the scenes. His name is Carl McCrystal.
I love how determined she was in this scene, doesn't surprised me men were willing to follow her to battle.

That's Luc Besson cartounish style, and he f*cked the star ! Mila aka Jeanne d'Arc this bastard (his wife...) ! now he is in trouble with metoo for harassement with some actresses.
Luc Besson made great movies ! he bild an empire but screwes out with bad movies last 10 years.
But yeah, I'm a history pedant, I really dislike the metal work and the armor work ! still a great entertainment.

A few weeks later, at the battle of Patay, the French swept aside the English army in a single imprecise charge with 3 times fewer fighters than they had.
To avenge Azincourt, they mercilessly massacred thousands of archers.
On their side, only a hundred or so were killed.
From then on, England did not launch any more offensives against the kingdom of France until the final defeat at Castillon, 22 years later, which was also a massacre with very few casualties on the French side.
Whatever naysayers say the faults of the film are, what is true is that any failings of this film still tower and outshine most others successes. That’s not nothing, not to say this film is bad, I loved it.
The fact they used so many extras and put such effort in that won’t be done much these days, makes this film long lasting.
This was my favorite scene in this amazing movie. The look of horror on the English when they realize the gates going to come down was fantastic acting

Jehanne la Pucelle was never hit in the chest area !
She was wearing a steel chest plate, similar to all the aristocratic knights of the era and she had the best armor of the time.
We all have heard about that strange story where a bolt pierced her armor and went in for a good 6 inches
and to the lungs !
A Medieval arrowhead going in for a good 6 inches,
you would died in a few minutes !
Joan received a flesh wound to the side of the neck by probably an English 800 grains bodkin pin arrowhead .
When this happened, she was standing, looking up, behind a wooden protection fence at the bottom of a fortress wall.
She was surprised and cried and was brought to the main military camp.
Then, a dressing of clay, honey and meat was applied to stop the blood flow and the infection !
She then return to the battlefield, after a few hours.
You are hilariously full of shit pretending you were there and know what happened. First of all, you dont know what hit her and the sources are extremely unreliable. Second, you dont know the quality of "steel" at the time which was nothing compared to what steel is today and warried from smith to smith and you dont know the quality or the type of arrow that hit her...or even the place where it did if it did at all.
This movie is a masterpiece, I really don't understand why it is so hated.

That commander saw what was coming at the 5:37 mark and he knew that while they could keep the French out they could hold but if the French with their numbers got in it would go very badly.

At 5.52 as the drawbridge comes down everyone is clear then at 5.54 every englishman runs under the drawbridge to kill them selves lol

@@thatoneguy2132 They didn't sneak up because they're way outnumbered and they feel safe behind their walls, the French had nothing to siege the castle that was ready. They felt comfortable due to their superiority in number, to sleep in frot of the castle and you can't see it but I'm sure there is watch duty.
If we payed attention, we would have known that this fortress was thought to be impenetrable. By both sides obviously.
There would be no reason to waste arrows.
She was pushing the siege tower backwards they where probably too confused and shocked by the apparently stupid move until it was too late.

A medieval ring said to have belonged to Joan of Arc, the French heroine who fought the English during the 15th Century, has returned to France after nearly 600 years in England.
The ring was bought by the Puy du Fou foundation, which runs a historical theme park in France, at auction in London for $425,000 (£300,000).
Joan gave it to an English cardinal before she was burned at the stake.
The Puy foundation said the ring's return to France was highly symbolic.
The French heroine is thought to have handed the ring to England's Cardinal Henry Beaufort on the eve of her execution in 1431.
It remained in England ever since, and there is thorough documentation to establish its provenance.
On Friday it was flown back to France.

Yea it's a masterpiece IMO. I blame this film for not doing well enough as partly the reason Kingdom of Heaven was edited to the point it was a poor film when the Directors Cut is critically praised.
Medieval films don't sell, which is shame because there's so much rich history - GRR Martin said The Hundred Years and War of Roses were his inspiration.
I like this movie, but I come to hate Milla's Joan of Arc, she is so histeric and instead of inspiring she looks religious fanatic not a faithful servant of god.
Just by wearing trousers she made herself a radical. And the difference between a religious fanatic or a faithful servant of god is rather subjective.

Buck (English captain) is portrayed as having a massive herpes outbreak, but this isn't referenced at all before nor is he shown having it when Charles is informed Orleans is lost. Was this supposed to be meaningful to the plot, or the actor just had an outbreak and they couldn't cover it up or delay the shot?

A hero was needed !
Then, in 1879, the Roman Catholic Church from Paris requested from the Vatican, the sainthood application of the now called ,
Maid of Orléans !
She became after numerous events, a saint only in 1920 !
France had now a hero and a saint !

It was a draw bridge so typically a battering ram wouldn't be able to to get to it so may not have needed or been able to be reinforced like a typical gate
😂She is ridiculous. You see 5 minutes of the silent version, and it kind of hurts every scene in this one with Joan speaking, but that doesn't really matter. This is still a pretty good movie.

Great movie and this scene in particular due to the tragic soundtrack going with it imo. This movie is meant for you to root for the French, so sadly you get all most despicable characters in this scene being English for instance. Yet you still feel for the poor lads crushed by the drawbridge here or begging for mercy there.
The monarchs and nobles in England at that time were also Norman French. French against French.

Ok, it actually shows her punching out an armored English soldier with her bare hand (LOL) and then drawing her sword, although the historical Joan of Arc said she didn't fight at all: during the fourth session of her trial (27 February 1431) she said “during assaults I carried the banner, so as to stay out of any killing; and I have never killed anyone.” The rest of the scene often seems like something out of Monty Python (spiked armor?) and doesn't have much in common with the actual historical events.
IF the movie stayed on this funny brutal tone it could be easly one of best movies ever, but the other grim part killed it.. you can go grim depressive or humor fantasy...do both in one movie is bad idea:/
