Damn, man. Scary sight when Wheeler tried to stand up and his right leg wouldn't let him. 😨😨 Very much reminiscent of Sergachev's injury when his leg buckled.
@@kevinstull8552 True, his was one of those you just knew season was done-zo, maybe career dependent upon the injury's severity. I don't get the same dreary vibe about Wheeler's injury here. I just hope I don't end up misspeaking.
@@johnathanpatrick6118 With Wheeler's injury, it looks like some torn ligaments, which could probably be a season ending injury. For Sergachev, depending on the severity of the broken leg and recovery time, he could possibly be back either sometime next season or longer, or it could possibly even be a career ending injury instead. I really do hope that both players come back from their injuries sometime in the near future, but only time will tell for them.
I get that players want to seem tough and such, but if you get injured like that, everyone knows you're tough as nails being in the league, just stay down, don't make the injury worse. Like we can see what just happened, we all know that your knee is absolutely gone, just let them carry you off. Like them standing up on a torn ligament could easily continue to tear surrounding tissues, and cause even more permanent damage. Even in lighter injuries simply standing up on a mild tear (ie a grade 2-3 sprain) could turn a 4 week recovery into 6-8 weeks. It just sucks to see guys get injured, ya want people to play hard but ya want em on rink, not at the hospital. Hope the recovery is swift and I hope hes able to make a full recovery.
No Hockey will stay down on the ice because their first thought is about the team. It’s the way they’re raised and taught to play the game. Also no player wants to be carried off the ice. Hockey players will fake not being injured.
Hope wheeler will have a speedy recovery. As a jets fan, he is a warrior, saw some retirement rumors, but this guy managed to play a game with a damaged thing... he will only come back stronger.
It gives me hope that we can appreciate how bad it sucks for the teams we may not root for, to have such a gnarly injury. Sometimes it feels like a lot of the respect for the opponent has left hockey and it's nice to see that I'm wrong about that. But then again, new yorkers tend to be the most willing people to share that comradery even if you guys hate each other for living a couple blocks over lol. I do love that about new yorkers. Ya'll are a forgiving and loving bunch of people. Comes with the territory of being from a diverse area.

Didn’t happen exactly like this but this reminds me of when I broke the bottom of my femur bone by my knee something you can’t forget and I tried doing the same thing he did and stand up and down I went as well so yeah I could tell it was bad. Hopefully he he can make a relatively quickly recovery and get back to the game he loves
@@mikemugs7I don’t think it’s his knee, if you watch 0:48 in 0.25x speed, his foot turns sideways with no effort, that looks like a leg break. His knee may have been damaged too, which would just compound the matter, but the way his foot turned looks like it’s a break at or above the ankle, but below the knee. It’s been listed as a “lower leg injury”, which also suggests tib/fib fracture(s), or ankle dislocation/fracture. Either way, at his age, that may be his career over.
He’s the rangers co commentator, obviously he’s just trying to be hopeful about the situation. Like what was he supposed to say “well his careers over. Bye wheeler thanks for your time”
He put too much pressure on the right leg trying to get up, looks like he was twisting it more. That was just his body telling him to get back down cause of the pain.
@@Actionronnie looks like a broken leg… 0:48 in 0.25x playback speed, you see as he goes to push himself up his right foot turns outwards with almost no effort.
Theres the reason why you arent allowed to fully extend your arms and push people to the ground. That should be a suspension, the NHL needs to protect their players. That easily could end Wheelers career.
You know these injuries wouldn't be happening if players knew how to take a check into the boards...... Thank the NHL for trying to take hitting out of the league.
