No ill intent at all and 58 handled the aftermath with class. took the crosscheck and the punch, didn't play dirty back to them and got the powerplays.
Thought the refs did a good job of clamping down on known thugs like Sam Bennett and telling Tkahuck to get back to the bench.

Had the refs called penalties on Pit I'm sure they wouldn't have taken it into their own hands. Montour gets smacked in the face with a stick, nothing. Goalie tripping a panther in front of ref, nothing.
Letang doesn't deserve a free pass here, Barkov at no time has possession of the puck and Letang has no justification to hit him at all. Granted it isn't a huge it but it is still dirty because there is absolutely no reason to throw the hit to begin with. If you want this crap out of the game hits like this regardless of the end result. 2 minutes for interference is a joke. And as the officials failed badly things risk getting out of hand. All because the officials failed to do their damn jobs on the initial incident. Should have been 5 and a game for Letang period.

The entire game Florida looks like toddlers having tantrums, you are so right. Tkachuk shoots the puck at the net after the whistle early, not long after Carter directs the puck towards the net softly after a whistle & Tkachuk acts like he wants to kill the guy. Someone breaks their stick on Letang's helmet all because he softly runs into Barkov. The whole thing was just comical. If the Pens weren't playing so poorly lately, or if Florida is playing anyone who can put some goals on the board I think Florida gets spanked this game just because they can't keep their cool.

Letang is one of the most respected and professional players in the league...has been for plenty of years.
And I say this a Flyers fan...I despise the Penguins...but I'm a hockey fan...no way Letang should have gotten called for that...and Florida is dumb for going after him. Good way to ruin your seed spot with then playoffs coming up...lose your cool against a non contender
Won this game, took the first seed in the division, and won the cup. Showing that injuring top guys, intentional or not, is off limits is what keeps them healthy

The Panthers play right on the edge or just over the line all the time and most often get away with it. The league shoukd fine Maurice as this has always been a trademark of his teams. Cousins and Tkachuk are often way over the line and are dirty players.

The refs will call a 5 min major on a play like that so then can review it. The rules allow them to go to video review on any 5 min major call. The trip was a legit penalty but as far as the interference call I'd say that, yes there was contact away from the puck but no way should it have been a penalty. If they're going to call that, then every scrum that happens after a goalie makes a save and guys start pushing around the net needs to be called. To me it looks like Barkov just lost his balance after the light contact and fell awkwardly into the boards. For those saying he dived, he didnt, he was shaken up, probably knocked the wind out of himself. The refs definitely should have called that a no call on the interference and just stuck with the 2 min trip.

I just know they'll often call a 5 on a play they want to review cause that gives them a chance to review it. I personally dont think it should have been a penalty on the contact, it was minor and no ill intent on Letang. The slash/tripping call he got was 100% correct but the interference was not a penalty imo. And for the record I'm neither a Florida or Pittsburg fan so this is just my take on what I saw.

Honestly huge props to Kris Letang for his discipline there. His penalty was super soft. And they got so many opportunities because of the reactions it caused. He easily could’ve thrown away those opportunities by retaliating. But he was down 1 in an important game, and kept his cool and got the team a ton of opportunities from it. Good, disciplined veteran.
I can't stand the Pens now and I'm a lifelong Pens fan. Letang was getting beat on all game and not one of his teammates came to his aid, it was pathetic. It's literally frustrating to watch.

Can't speak for these commentators, but most of the league said the same things when Crosby got chicken wing'd by Steckel and was out for about 100 games. Arguably decreased what is already one of the most legendary player's legacy by quite a lot, to the point where Crosby could be pushing for an 1800 point career.
Of course when you have as important guy like Barkov on your team, his teammates protects him. It's hockey, im not saying this was a dirty, its physical sport.
Neither of those calls should have been a penalty. Letang's stick grazed Barkov's knee and all of a sudden both his feet fly into the air. Then Letang and Barkov casually brush each other and Barkov flings himself into the boards and then smacks his head on the ice. I can't believe they reviewed that second call and still issued a penalty. Absurd. They should give Barkov a breathalyzer because he looked like a wobbly drunk on that shift.
