Kelly are pretty tough. I also recommend a kodiak canvas tent. They are a little pricey, heavy and a little hard to set up the first few times but well worth money. They are super tough, made of duck canvas and have vinyl floors. Thats where most of its weight comes from but it super durable

The humour on that Kelty ad makes me want to give them my money, just on principle.

In Tasmania Australia we need uva, torrential rain and cyclonic wind gusts or as close too as possible or they just rip or leak! Preferably able to be erected by one person as not so many trees either in camp grounds, solo camper here, and have experience with all those weather conditions and found tents only last about 4 weeks camping over summer here, then the fly turns to paper and rips bad, would love one that lasts that I could put up myself thanks for info. I usually use a ten man dome, As I love being away and stow my gear in tent too, and use for shelter from sun when not swimming etc

All of them are good, Coleman is the best on this list. Also, you can check about ALPS Mountaineering tents.

We have the Coleman Cabin. Unfortunately condensation accumulates onto the bottom of the rain fly and drips down thru the mesh roof in the morning. Otherwise not a bad tent. The bathtub floor keeps most of the ground water from coming into the tent when it rains but not 100%.

Looking at those monsters I know why I like Hammocks for backpacking and camping the last 60 plus years.

If you haven't ever camped out in a downpour, you probably shouldn't be choosing what is amounting to a quality tent.
On Many of these tents the rain fly is insufficient, and might leave you floating around on your air mattress inside a flooded tent

Does this tent have a HINGED door? Love the instant set up...but would NOT buy it without the hinged door...ESPECIALLY if you have kids. IT IS SOOOO MUCH BETTER for them going in and out without letting bugs in, and having to zip up and down all the time!!

Wow these tents are so old style.
Europe is now all air tents much easier to errect...and cotton fabric . Bigger too by far

    • @mysterylovescompany2657

Air tents are still financially out of reach of even a lot of the people who'd like to have one, though. The ones from Vango and Outwell look amazing, but my hip pocket hurts just thinking about it.

@@mysterylovescompany2657 all the tent retail comapies offer credit facilities.. usually around 12 months so 100 a month equals 25 a week for 12 months...if you put a down payment the credit is of course less and easier....

@@thomaslowdon5510 I have a personal policy to simply not buy things I can't afford, which is why I have always kept a debit but not credit card. Best way to beat debt is to avoid it.

@@mysterylovescompany2657 ok l do understand that... i can only suggest maybe a glass jat with a label on the front "air tent " where you put in 25 a week till you have enough to go out and buy yourself a nice airtent... if it takes a year ok so by august next year you will be the proud owner of an air tent....
      My best wishes to you...

Personally, I'm not actually into them; I'm beyond in love with the tent I have*, & I probably won't want to upgrade until something in it properly _breaks_ beyond repair.
But I have just seen a lot of comments + blog posts by people who would love one, but to whom they're financially out of reach. And a lot of those folk not only can't afford one outright, & also wouldn't consider going into debt over what is, essentially, an unnecessary upgrade to already a luxury item when there are many more affordable options available, but also simply don't have the spare income that isn't spoken for elsewhere even to save up for one. Because whether in one big wad of cash, or in little drips + drabs, they still remain _the most expensive kind_ of tent a person can buy.
Air tents simply aren't as economically accessible as even brand-new models of the less cutting-edge tech, like these, are.
A good analogy is that not everyone who needs a new car finds it practical to get a Mazerati, regardless of the finance plan available.
However, I'm dead-set happy for you if you've personally been able to afford one, & I hope it gives you many years of enjoyment + satisfaction, & pays for itself many times over. :-)
*I have a Coleman Festival Octagon, & it is just _beautiful_ . I am obsessed.

Boo, I've seen footage of a car _with the bumper ripped off_ because a bear had decided there was food in the boot.
There's no such thing as a bear-proof tent. If Yogi wants in, he's comin' in.
Camping in bear country _at all_ takes either a lot of firearms, a sense of cheery fatalism, or maybe deep, _deep_ Depression. I haven't been able to figure out which.
To say nothing of mountain lions/pumas/cougars/bobcats, which like to actually _hunt_ people whom they get the jump on!
That's insane. American wilderness campers, you are some ballsy folks.
You wouldn't catch me doing it, and I'm from the land of G_d's edgy phase ('Straya).
If I had to pick between camping in the US in Summer or hiking through Russia in Winter, I knew which one I'd choose.
