    Woohoo! 1st the Celica Supra and now this back to back. This 300zx is a direct competitor to the mk2 Supra. My mk2 Supra has a 7MGE swapped in which makes 200 hp naturally aspirated. That's what you need to keep the turbo 300zx in sight.

    • @mrZdude
      @mrZdude ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The z31 is a competitor to the MK3, not the MK2.

    • @Where_is_Waldo
      @Where_is_Waldo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrZdude In the market of the '90s these Z31s and the Celicas of the MK2 Celica Supra generation directly competed. During the early '90s two of my brothers owned Z31s and one of those same brothers and one of my sisters both owned a Celica of that generation. Neither were Supras but not that far off and the Z31s weren't turbocharged either so... apples to apples. My sister had the GT-S which had the same fender flares and wheels and interior and five speed transmission as the Supra and even had four wheel discs which I thought was good for and '84 four cylinder car.
      The biggest differences I noticed were front end was a bit longer in front of the wheels on the Supra and both looked about the same good in my opinion but even though the Supra put out a bit more power than the GT-S (I think about 40hp more but the four cylinder was a truck motor so it had decent torque), the GT-S had a short four cylinder block instead of a long inline six so it probably had a noticeably more rearward weight balance. That's all to say I think the Celica in general is a close enough stand in for the Celica Supra, at least the GT-S anyway. If anything the Celica Supra MK2 probably started competing with the Z31 late in the Z31's popularity/commonality because it was about the time I noticed the Z31 becoming less popular among people I knew that someone I knew was driving a Celica Supra and that was someone about my age when I was a teenager whereas the Z31s and Celicas were owned by my siblings who were teenagers when I was in elementary school.

      Agree 100% percent, never understood the animosity toward the Z31 (then again, I think the Z32 is the ugliest Z ever). This is *the* Z31 I would look for, the color, the '86 with the AE side skirts, analog dash, 5 speed. Don't like the 'melted' facelift, I love the original sharp origami styling (I've owned an '85 Supra, '88 200sx SE-V6, '87 5-speed Cressie, '85 Celica GT-S, '88 Maxima SE, and currently an '89 MR2 S/C).

    I miss my '87. Bought it for $995. Everything worked and didn't leak. The mass air flow sensor was bad which made it run funny sometimes which is how I got it low. One trip and $50 to the salvage yard and it ran great for a long time. Slow for sure but it had style. I made no pretense that it was a race car. The '84 50th anniversary is my dream car and I'm not ashamed of it. I do prefer the later 80's styling a bit more though.

Wish I could have kept it.

    My brother used to have an '86 N/A 300ZX 5spd in basically this color but shinier and it had the T-Tops as well. His was a 2+2 (and since I was in elementary school for most of the time he owned it I actually enjoyed riding in the back) and it had a leather interior and digital gauges. Now, I may be wrong on this because a couple of my siblings had '80s and early '90s cars during the '90s with stereo controls built into the steering wheel but I think his had that feature... but he had an after market deck so the wheel controls didn't work.
    So this car sounds amazing right? I bet you'd like to drive it... 😬 brace yourself... he sold it to my cousin... now , I'm going to preface this by saying that my cousin is a nice guy and I like him... and he's done a lot to help other cars be better than they were since this happened... but he crashed it... I think twice... the body was crumpled a lot anyway... and he absolutely destroyed the interior... I almost hated him for that, I loved that car so much. It was so perfect.

      why would anyone do that, and no, you cant just take it off, you'd need some N/A parts, worst case scenario DIY plugging the holes left from turbo system removal, usually turbo cars has lower compression ratio so it would run like a potato, and prolly ecu program and fueling would be a mess, would be cheaper to just swap N/A engine and sell the turbo one

    Alright I have questions.
    I owned an 86 NA and i loved it, I have driven very, very fast street, race, drag, and drift cars and I'm not gonna lie I'm confused.
    160hp? Holy shit if that's it im impressed. I could break that bitch loose so quick it was frightening. I'm not doubting the numbers cause it did have a lot of power loss for anything over about 5k rpm, but that thing hooked and ran like it had double the amount it claimed. I've had a lot of vehicles and this one is still probably my favorite, digital dash and all. I would probably give my left nut to have it back. My Z, not another one. Mine. I got it off the original owner from when he bought it in 85, was a weekend car, and when I got it I could not be more happy. Amazingly T tops didn't leak. Still had bitchin Betty, paint was great and original and have pics to prove it.. also love the 86 cause it was the only year as far as I know to come with its own wheels, none of that bs door and fender black door jam shit, and the spoiler. I drove the piss out of it. It didn't care. And even the stock 5 speed wasn't too bad, but godDAMN could that car run, I was keeping up with cars I had no reason on God's green earth to even be running neck in neck on so cal freeways. I want my baby back 😩 lol. Long story short. There's no way it was only 160hp off the rip. Unless old guy who had it before did stuff and didn't tell me, it was way more ridiculous than that low ass number.

      I had an '86 Z31 N/A 5-speed. Yes, they only had 160 horsepower. It felt faster than it was because the soft rear suspension squatted a lot on acceleration. Not a fast car, but very fun to drive.

    It’s 200hp not 160

      The turbo model had 200 horsepower. This is the normally aspirated model, which has 160.

      @@floridaroadways The 1987 200SX v6 had the same exact engine that was in the 1984 through 1989 300zx non-turbo (like the one in this video). It's the VG30E V6 with 160 horsepower.

    Love 80's cars but never liked the look of these. It's like the Z cars ugly awkward phase going through puberty.
