I agree with you. I enjoy photography so much more while travelling. And yes, I concentrate much more on image quality during travel because I may never go there again, whereas at home I can always return to try again. And last but not least, travel broadens your mind.

Going to different places is good for everything, your photography and in order to get a more open mind.

I travel a lot with my wife and the problem photography-wise then is often the fact that you end up doing the 'run and gun' kind of shooting, trying to keep up with your wife 😂, instead of stopping to think first. But it is certainly always good to see new places also from photography pov, and I agree with the points you mention.

I need to go to some new places because I feel I'm stagnating going to the same places.

Nice job, a very good set of travel tips. As you suggest, many of us do the best we can to capture good images of places, events and loved ones when traveling. If we occasionally get a photo that’s worthy of printing and hanging on the wall, that’s fine but it’s recording the memories that’s our goal. Skill in using our cameras, careful composition and technique are just as satisfying whatever the aim. Thank you.😮

I was recently in Chicago I would walk around the city and photograph anything of interest I hit the usual tourist spots as well the city it self away from the tourist spots. I brought one camera and two lenses a 16- 50 2.8 and a 55-300 4.5 - 6.3 which covered all the focal lengths I needed the 16-50 spent most of the time on the camera

Thanks for sharing. Chicago is a nice city. Been there twice. I especially like the river and the scenery from it.

I'd love to travel far more, as in the past I have enjoyed foreign travel but now I can't afford to travel far so I visit places closer to my home and experiment with different techniques, objects, and scenes that I've noticed.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

As I said in the video, the visit can be close. It does not have to be far away. Just a short commute to a neighboring city is enough.

Thanks Peter, I really appreciate your videos. 🎉🎉🎉. I am currently travelling in Greece and your video is perfectly timed! I think that another benefit of travel photography is that it makes me think (or rethink) what photography styles I enjoy.
I don't really enjoy street photography, as I don't see the value in photographing strangers.
However, while travelling, I am doing a lot of urban street scapes and I have learned that I do enjoy this style.
Finally, even though Greece is so beautiful, landscape photography does not really excite me.

I'm really enjoying these videos. I do quite a lot of travel to European cities. Last was Athens. The next is Copenhagen and Helsinki in September. I'm quite new to street photography but think a lot of my previous travel photography is very similar.

Thanks, Peter. I agree. A change of scenery helps my creativity. On a weekend visit to a large city recently I took only my OMSystem OM-5 and m.zuiko 12-45 pro zoom. It all fits easily in a small shoulder bag and is light to carry with a wrist strap. Ideal set up for me. Waterproofing helped in the light rain, too 😊

I have enjoyed my last 4 trips to Europe immensley & my camera got a daily creative workout ! The visiting of parts of the world I may only see once is great incentive to take a lot of good photos & I do try to take creative photos & not just pictures. Two more trips to Europe pending in 2025.Only regret, should have started travelling a lot earlier in life. I often enjoy a rainy day day reviewing my travel photos ( & perhaps creating photo book(s)) & look at ways I can do things better on my next trip(s) Only downside is travel from A to B & B back to A is 8hours plus.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I also do not like the A to B part, but being in a new place is so enjoyable that the A to B is not that bad.

Peter - thank you for this video. Travel always broadens the mind and it is also true for photography !! I think it brings new ideas/ scenes / environmental opportunities .Some how I always take more photographs when traveling and then have to be firm with the delete button to sift through them. I sense that you really enjoyed your trip to France and it came through with this video !!

I always bring only one lens traveling, this time the 23mm f2 on my fujifilm. I like to only have one lens restrict myself and use my creativity. This time I’m in Paris. So much to see. Like you said; it can be overwhelming. Good video. Like your analytical mindset.

Interesting points Peter, I did a week in Antibes in February and walked the same streets. I use OM systems, that trip omd 1 mkiii 12-45 pro but now have a LUMIX with 15mm for more discreet street photography. Thanks for all your inspiration and reminder about local laws, I’m off to Switzerland to do street photography but will be focusing on architecture. Any of your videos recommended before my trip?

its healthy to have a change of scene so, when i can, i visit outside town for a while. and its strange because my photographic creativity becomes more open. yesterday the weather was perfect, so i made use of it and visited a parish or village, and the afternoon light made it way easier for me. i used my GH5ii and 14-140mm the entire time, but i will use the canon r7 more once i have an adequate superzoom or zoom lens for it.

Hi Peter, I hope you are keeping well. Love your videos & art.
I recently purchased an OM-5 with the 12-45mm f4.0 Pro Lens and I am considering picking up the f1.8 17mm Lens to complement it.
I am totally new to digital cameras; though I have shot thousands upon thousands of images on smartphones over the years.
I am soon to be travelling South America for 6-8 months, with my OM-5. I love the camera and the lens and I'm just starting to get used to shooting in Manual.
If you have any tips for shooting with the OM-5 on my travels, please let me know!
All the very best to you,
    Russell

Learn the camera well before you travel. Set it up so that it works the best for you. You will have more time to photograph rather than tweak the menus etc.

@@ForsgardPeter Thank you! I'm leaving at the beginning of October. I have the manual installed on my phone/tablet and I find myself referring back to it a lot.
I followed your settings video and I have since made my own tweaks, but I'm definitely still learning and there's quite a lot to process!

    Here's my tip:
    Leave your camera at home!
I've always thought photography made travel more fun but, having left my camera at home on some recent trips I know the opposite is true.
I think a lot of people use photography to avoid immersing themselves in travel.
One good point about travel is that I tend to get up and out earlier when traveling so I observe more interesting light and see cities waking up.
My next trip probably won't include my camera.
    Try it sometime.

Studies say the opposite. Photographing can make the experience stronger. People who photograph look around more and see more. I have also seen studies where excessive use of phone for photography can prevent from the experience. It all comes down to the way one photograhps.
Here is a link to one article that refers the reaserch I was talking about. There is also a link to the reaserch paper. www.moretimetotravel.com/psychology-travel-taking-photos-add-detract-experience/
