    I absolutely adore these two brands. I recently got a GO Panomaticlunar with the grey dial and couldn't be happier. If I get another watch I can't decide if it will be another GO (been looking at the SeaQ and the senator excellence with the Arabic dials), a JLC (been looking at the Polaris and the Master Calendar Chronograph), or try to find a VC Quai de L'ille. I am surprised the Polaris inner bezel doesn't lock but I guess for most people (including myself) it is more for show than use. Another great video. Thanks for sharing.

    I really like JLC, but Gläshutte Original is definitely my choice from the two, as I love their Germanic designs and cool dial colors.
    I think both offer a great value for money on the secondary market.

    GO and JLC may be relatively expensive, but both truly do give you a lot of watch for your money - I just hope the maintenance costs aren't stratospheric!
    Another possible pairing is between a Senator Excellence and another watch from the Master product family, for example their respective moonphase models. What they would have in common is that they both have rigorous testing procedures and are dedicated to not just achieving, but exceeding established chronometer standards. :)

    • @watchartsci

      Gilberto, if you buy a luxury watch, expect to have higher service charges. However, if you rotate your watches, you won't have to have each one serviced as often. Also, lots of good buys on the Senator on the secondary market. Good hunting! Take care, Bill

    The fired GO Sixties dials in a range of different colors put the new colored Oyster Perpetual dials to shame and, as the former owner of a Grand Seiko blue Mt. Itawe dress piece (SBKG005), even excite me more than the GS dials. GO has a separate dial manufacturing facility in Pforzheim, a couple hours from Glashutte, where the Sixties dials are made. This facility dates back to the 1920s and was established by Thomas Muller. And ended up in GO hands due to a series of mergers, etc. Pforzheim was the historic fine jewelry capital of Germany and the factory stayed in business during the Communist regime in East Germany. The factory does these fired hand painted Sixties dials and also creates metal dials which are among the best in the world. Like Moser hairsprings, one would be impressed to learn the identity of the Pforzheim plant’s non-GO customers. The Pforzheim facility is very much the German equivalent of the Grand Seiko dial studios. I have purchased four Grand Seikos over time and I regard GO as the German GS. This comparison is not perfect (GS has more sophisticated movement choices including spring drive and high beat) but I think that it comes close to the mark as GS and GO have much in common in terms of the dual commitment to both excellence and outstanding value propositions. Cheers.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Howard, that is interesting. I wonder why the East German regime allowed the factory to keep making jewelry? They wouldn't let Rolf Lang follow in his father's (and grandfather's) footsteps to be a watchmaker ... he had to do it circuitously through the restoration of the Dresden museum. Take care, Bill

    • @h111551
      @h111551 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@watchartsci I think that dial production (not jewelry production) continued with the facility being rolled up into the East German state’s GUB watch making entity which was the monolith that absorbed all of the Glashutte based watch concerns. In the galaxy of communist bloc political and economic alliances, East Germany was an exporter of watches, shipping time keeping and navigation instruments and the like to other communist states. After 1994, the individual watch companies that had been rolled into GUB became available for some form of reclamation to their former owners but many such former owners did not have the financial wherewithal to pick up the pieces and had to take in new partners from outside of East Germany such as the deal Gunter Blumlein) was the operations executive for the investment company which owned IWC and Jaeger LeCoultre) made for his company with Walter Lange to resurrect A. Lange & Sohne. Lothar Schmidt was moved by Gunter Blumlein from IWC to serve as the first technical director of the revived A. Lange & Sohne. Mr. Schmidt later bought Sinn from founder Helmut Sinn 25 years ago and Mr. Schmidt has remained the enlightened sole proprietor of Sinn for the last quarter century. Unlike Art Leyenberger, I do not speak or read German so I would defer to him on matters related to East German horology during the communist era.

      @@h111551 When I met with Rolf Lang in Dresden, he too worked with A. Lange, Tutima and even H. Moser ... in the Swiss-German canton. Even the communist realized that changing the watchmaking culture was not easy and had to bend some of stricter rules for universal equality. Cheers, Bill
