Btw, I don't think that really the Despicable Me franchise is the true reason for changing the Minion's name. - actually, Megamind came out to cinemas 4 to 5 months AFTER Despicable Me movie and that was not a problem back then! Plus the word "minion" is just a noun meaning helper, follower, etc., so it can't be a trademark to anyone...
Well even if Megamind hadn't come out yet the movie was already being made, and the Minions weren't cultural giants the way they are now. Nowadays many people, and especially kids, will immediately associate the word minion with the yellow guys. So if they want this character to stand out it makes sense to rename him even if I don't like it.

Megamind Vs.Doom Syndicate? More like Megamind Vs.The Doomed Syndication.
My fan theory is the sequel and the series were made by the villain: "Cashgrab"
A villain who exists in the Megamind universe who functions as a symbiote to enhance the greed of those it bonds with.
It just happened to fuse with someone who wanted to profit off of Megamind, but who couldn't convince him to sign a contract with him to gain profits.
Hence the voice changes, and the ignorance of key facts from the OG movie.
Seriously so many issues....
1. Minion is NOT Chum. He also probably named HIMSELF, and was probably the name of his RACE. Possibly chose it to HONOR his fallen loved ones. *Proven in the origin story, with his mother calling him A minion, not someone named minion.*
2. Roxanne and Megamind fell in LOVE in the 1st movie, sure they had a bump when his secret was revealed, but she did in fact looked back showing regret for leaving him, as well as falling for him by the end of the movie. Hence the KISS at the end.
3. He had ZERO friends, Minion being his friend and CARETAKER *His mother said his MINION would care for him. He was his NANNY if anything*
Here's something I would have done if I was given the task to make a megamind sequel first things first I would re-watch the original film 2 to 3 different times so I can get a really good grasp on what the concept of megamind is about
Then I would bring in the Doom syndicate into the sequel but give them a new origin story making the megamind video game not canon to the franchise at all which is perfectly fine since nobody really played it or cared about it
Possibly give them new designs to make them more intimidating as villains
And give them a new origin story an origin story that could be as simple as this
One of the members of the Doom syndicate could be a scientist while other folks could be random civilians who happen to have gotten power similar to that of what we see in the actual sequel itself but they actually look interesting
The first try to use their powers to mess with megamind and then they tried to take it a step further of trying to take over the city and possibly the entire world and megamind and his new crew have to stop him
For that girl character who's meant to be a sidekick I do one of two things either write her out of the story entirely or try to make her either be a parody of the sidekick archetype while also making her an interesting character in her own right that makes her worthy of being part of this new team megamind tries to form with her and Roxanne along with minion speaking of him I would also have him keep his name
Another thing I would do is that if I want to make it as a sequel where it expands upon the themes and ideas that the first film did I would take the themes of the first film did and expand on them without contradicting the original themes and characterizations of how the characters were in the first movie (basically not pulling a Toy story 4)
I will expand upon its themes and ideas that the original film had did without making the characters feel out of character or without retreading the same ground
That is probably what I would do if I were to be given the task of making a true megamind sequel it probably won't be perfect but it'll at least be something
Even if I wouldn't have the budget of the first movie to work on a project like this I would at least put some form of care into it as not only a standalone movie but as a true sequel to megamind if I were to be given that task

I watched the movie and most of the series today. It just was not good. Way to many flaws, less the lousy animation:
1) To many retcons. For example, MegaMind didn't seem to even like Minion (Chum).
2) MegaMind was a lousy hero, and it was hard to get in his corner.
3) They kept recycling the same villians. For this material they could come up with new silly villians, but they used the same ones over and again.
4) There weren't much action. Why didn't he fight in a huge machine like he did in the movies.
On the plus side I did like the little girl in it. She was fun and funny. Not worth a see at all.
The problem is they keep making new crews since Monsters vs Aliens show and it is same boring story for years

As usual ai love your reviews. I feel like the sequel missed the mark for everything. I miss the old days of Avatar and Sofia the First where the stories were actually complex. Kids are not that stupid and this movie just feels like a waist of time. My 5 year old sister could not even sit through it and fell asleep. We need more complex kids films not this garbage.

ngl I’m happy they didn’t make megamind a franchise, partially because of this, partially because the 1st film was a complete story
Yeah it didn’t need it but it’s nice to think about what could have been in an ideal world if they tried to be creative with it

I don’t know what I’m going to get with Megamind 2, but I unfortunately don’t get a good feeling about it.

I don't recommend it, it's just boring.
Ugh it was so bad.. my son was so excited for this to come out and it was painful to even listen to. The jokes (if you wanna call them that) are awful. He watched the entire movie and didn't laugh once. Gone are the days of witty funny animation 😭 Whoever the writers for this trash are should be fired!
Antz (DreamWorks first animated film) has better CGI than this

It was mid tbh
The original megamind was fantastic. I just watched the first 15 minutes and it was so terrible. Ya I noticed the voices were off but ok. The animation was just not right but ok. The thing is in just the first 15 mins Megamind became a Megamoron and the writing was just terrible. So terrible. I could not watch any more and had to make a comment online. Please don't bother watching this movie and watch the first movie again. I hate to say it but I think its a woke feminist movie but to be fair I didn't watch the entire movie. Anyway it is what it is.

Tear down the male character. Have you not witnessed years of IP getting destroyed in Hollywood all to make a female character look better. Did you not watch movies life indiana jones or star wars or every single other movie they destroyed??? WAKE UP.
