- Hello everyone, and welcome back to The Retro Vault! A journey back through time, looking at classics from the PS1, XBOX/PS2, XBOX 360 and PS3 area, maybe even further back too!
In Episode 4, we will be continuing the story from Max Payne (which we covered in Episode 2). This is a continuation from the events in Max Payne, but takes take 2 years after those events.

I played max payne 2 on my pc for hundreds of hours. It really felt like it upped the chaos from the first by fully embrace tons of physics
Max Payne 2&3 are the greatest 3rd person shooters of all time imo.

Winterson's gaslight speedrun on Max is my favorite part of the story
One thing I always liked about these games is for the most part all the characters looked like normal people. Like, no one is particularly ‘sexy’ in max Payne 1 & 2 and it makes it feel more grounded and realistic (all things considered)
This game (much l;Ike the first) set the benchmark for how games are made today. Something as simple as the ‘rag doll’ effect was amazing to see developed.

I love the Retro Vault. From the intro to the vibes, it's such a nice installment. Another great video, thanks a lot! Not sure if you take requests, but would you consider covering the F.E.A.R. games? I can't find any proper explanations of the story and lore, just gameplay reviews, although it was immensely popular at its time.
Max Payne 2 was indeed short but VERY sweet.

Idk if you can tell based on my profile picture, but Max Payne 1 is literally my all time favorite game. The best storytelling I’ve heard tbh. But, MP2 was a great sequel. I really underestimated how good it would be when I first was able to play it

As Max Payne 3 was trash for me and the last time I´ve finished Max Payne 2 was on the the hardest difficulty, thus keeping Mona alive, this my way of "happily ever after"

I never finished Max Payne 1. I could not beat the blood trail nightmare as I kept falling into the abyss. But I played MP 2 to the end.
I cannot hear the name Puncinello without thinking of Punch from those horrifying Punch and Judy puppets. I don't know why, but they have been used in two different horror novels (sort of) that I've read and I am fucked up about those stupid puppets now

i'm watching these videos bc i've never player any max panyne games but want to know the lore before playing 3. these vids were exactly what i needed!! and then you had to throw in the spoiler..WHY!?!?!!?
What spoiler? That Mona is dead? Hardly a spoiler.
I still strongly this game could be translated into a movie or tv series. The tv series would give more scope to unpack more narrative. The underground subways, atmospheric music, the mafia, Russians, inner circle and many other important things were utterly failed and destroyed by the movie. It would need John Wick (exaggerated but artistic) take on it to best render one of the best noir stories and noir games ever made or will be made.
Wow, I think the Story is very confusing. I never got it completely while playing and I do not know if I got it now. 😅

I think the comic style panels hold a lot of critical information, I try to read them as you’re speaking but you cut off and switch away too quickly.
I think I read fairly quickly but not any faster than average, so I think if you could hold the frame for 1-3 seconds longer it would be really helpful in this, and it wouldn’t be so long that it would mess up your flow too much hopefully? Maybe it’s worth experimenting on to figure out a more appropriate duration of time to show those panels.
Other than that these are great and keep up the work!
