We're camping in MN right now, and the aggressive niceness is real. Staying at a similar little county park, we met one of the locals who insisted we walk up to the community garden and take whatever we need. He also went to his garden and brought us six ears of corn and some dry wood to start a fire. Some of the nicest folks around here.
Hey there, I was the lady in last store (badger)that you were filming. Thank you for your compliment I’m really glad to hear that. Btw I’m not the owner., my sister is the owner. Looking forward to you come back to our small town again.❤️
Question for you, I lived in Badger72-73 did that store used to be a hardware store. I remember the people that owned it owned the house that I rented the upstairs. Was in Badger 2 years ago. Fond memories there!!
@@artdesignbyyaya Thank you so much for responding. I lived in the upstairs of the house of the people that owned the hardware store. I remember the Badger Cafe across from the gas station. I had a girlfriend that lived just outside of town. (another story) LOL!

Only been to Minnesota once..The Patriots/Eagles Superbowl game...from the minutes you left the plane there were people welcoming you...it really was a lovely place....-16° but still a lovely place
G'day Carolyn. Greetings from Australia. Love this video and loved the tour of the little town. Thank you. Loved you sliding down the slippery dip. Lol. Brings back childhood memories. Safe travels and look forward to seeing some more of your travels.
Northern Minnesota is beautiful with all the lakes. I spent a month in the Boundary waters wilderness area in the 70's. Amazingly it is still there. I recommend renting a canoe and spending some time there.
Hitting that Aux switch to join the house batteries with the starter battery does work to jump start the engine. I have done that several times over the years. Best thing I ever did in my RV was change over to AGM house batteries as it was very difficult to access my house batteries to check the water etc. AGM batteries are completely sealed and do not corrode either. They are stronger and have many more life cycles so they last longer as well.
Was in Lancaster many years ago (Mid 60s?) and it looks like there have not been many changes. Noticed that they do have new lamp posts...likely a big upgrade. In one of the little towns I bought a stamp for a postcard and the postmaster (in a little shop) asked if I minded if she read it "We don't get many folks or much news around here" lol. Thanks for the memories and for the company. As usual, interesting and a refreshing outlook on small town USA. God Bless.
Caroline, I lived in Badger back in 72-73. Some of the town looks familiar . Lived there in the winter, worked outside. Loved that little town. Stay safe. Greetings from the Arrowhead of Minnesota!
I was disabled from a tick bite, put in ICU in the beginning. Doing better after 3 years. It's been a long journey. Robbed me of 3 years. The first two were a bit rough. I never knew a tick bite would destroy everything I worked for. Beware! I was preparing to go boondocking and explore. Never made it..:-(
What I have noticed since moving to small town, Wisconsin is that not only does the long winter encourage friendliness, but having less to do as compared to a city, encourages friendliness as well. Interaction with others is big entertainment. And a new face in town, well, that is a real curiosity. How much money one has does not seem to be so important. I suppose because things are more equitable in these parts. Money is not a focal point which also encourages human connection.
Thank you for your kind words for my state of Louisiana. I've been watching your videos almost 2 years now love them. It's 8 days now with no electricity, I know what u mean about the heat. This hurricane hit us head on. Keep up the awesome videos, later gotta go catch up with the videos now I have WiFi back.
This is prairie land. We're in TRF working at Digikey until April. The city park is essentially a work camp for temp workers. When I came up to TRF in July, I was really excited. I thought I was headed for great forests. Now I call it the land of 900 acre forests. All of it privately owned with some state land interspersed.
You may already know this, but what I've found when I make my own tea blends, is they tend to sort of ferment over a few days unless they are refrigerated, but if I refrigerate them they stay good a lot longer.

super happy it's summer in MN! but also, when you live up north, and it's cold more than half the year, you want that sense of friendliness and community, that's how people survived way back, took care of each other. Never know when you might need someone to pull you out of the ditch!
Hi Carolyn, I live in Minot, ND and nearly every small town in ND also has a little city park with at least 2 camping spots (sometimes with electric only, other times with water too......always on the honor system.) I travel to and from Minneapolis about 10 times annually and tend to stay in these spots spring/summer/fall. I don't use their electricity or water, so I usually only have to pay $12/night. I love it.
Carolyn, if you come back through MN, you can stay at our family "campground" lake lots with water and electric hookups for free anytime. The very small town is about 7 miles away from SD and looks about like Badger.
"Way North", yup, you're not far from me here in Winnipeg, MB, Canada at all! You zoomed through Thief River Falls. I know you like the back country more than the cities, but it sure has a lot to offer. And North Dakota doe shave the city parks as well. Living in Winnipeg, the majority of us zip to Grand Forks, Fargo, Devils Lake and Thief River Falls (& the surrounding area) for weekend getaways, or even camping vacations. N.D., you missed Devil's Lake. That might have swayed your opinion a bit. And now you're heading towards cottage country in MN! Absolutely beautiful country there!
I live in Dahlonega Georgia in the north Georgia Mountains, I believe people here are also extremely friendly. It is shocking to visitors and they love it so much. Its beautiful here too. You should come visit us.
Those trailers are rentals. I ran into that frequently working the census in MN last summer. Some are long term weekend/occasional use homes. Rarely a permanent resident up there but it can happen
I grew up with coal heat. Yes that was where a big truck full of coal would back into our driveway and dump through a chute the load into the basement coal room. Didn't get central heat and air (from Sears) until 1968.
We'll be travelling with two little Saint Croix Snickerdoodles, and 3 cats. Glamping, I guess, since it's a 38 foot Class A, with three slides. I arranged a ramp to a compartment under the right rear of the bedroom. Litterbox is down there, and its access is from outside for cleaning the box. Love to watch the pets enjoying the mobile life.
So fun to see a TH-camr enjoying my home town of Badger, MN. I grew up on main street and now live in rural Badger. You might enjoy Voyager National Park which is a free park and covers a lot of area. They do have camping but not sure of the fees or reservations. My husband and I took a boat tour and really enjoyed that. Check it out if you have time.
I seen the Sue Grafton novel and thought "grab it!". I read all her books, it's the alphabet series about a female detective "Kinsey Millhone"...I loved, loved, loved, the series, would wait on bated breath for the next one to come out, from 1982 to 2017. Good reads, fun but lots of touching on serious issues. The later one's were much more serious...but still good reads. I went from a young bride to Grandmother with Kinsey, she didn't age much though. The author passed away after writing "Y is for Yesterday"...didn't make it to "Z"...so sad...she and her main characters, were much loved by her readers...and she refused to sell to Hollywood...she wanted Kinsey to be who the reader's imagination thought she was...and other reason's, personal feelings she had about Hollywood. I admired that. Lovely vlog Carolyn...Badger was a nice place to be...did you good!
Watching a lot of your older videos again just because I need some inspiration but I think I know why Minnesota is such a happy place it might have to do with their governor and their people.
Definitely about mask wearing!! My daughter is a traveling nurse currently in Oregon. Please wear a mask! This new Delta is far worse than what we had last year and lots more of those already vaccinated are getting sick. Please wear a mask no matter how safe it seems.
Thanks for the tip on using lemon peels to clean. Especially the one with lemon and course salt to scrub with for the sink. I never heard of that before, but I'm trying it out in my sink.
Thank you Carolyn, because of you my hubby and I are so excited to visit Minnesota!! Great video!! BTW your hair is looking really pretty and it's getting so long!!
Carolyn, what a wonderful video! Badger, Minnesota looks wonderful! I love small towns. Loved the music you chose for the video...well done and very interesting. This was alot of fun to watch. Stay well and safe travels. 👍👍👍👍👍😁
Yes, that was a coal shoot door. That's how they used to fill the coal bin in the old houses. My grandparents has one in there house. And the house I purchased also has one. Just make sure it is sealed tight. A full grown man could fit in through it.

I loved this video. I've lived in MN most of my 75+ years and I believe it's a very special place. While I was growing up I spent a lot of time in Lancaster. The people there are lively and fun. Our farm was less than 10 miles from there. I had a great childhood in that area. I've spent less time in Badger, but it is a nice town. The reason you see all the town's having parks is that before co-vid that are saw an influx of Canadian campers all summer, every summer. Things are cheaper here. I've had the chance to move to the Southwest, but declined because I'd miss the green and the blue of all our lakes. Just like you mentioned. 😊😍
Oh, Carolyn! Northern Minnesota is totally different than Badger. You should see what it’s like around the lakes in Minneapolis on the first nice day in spring! Everybody is outside.
I agree with the 'Minnesota nice' thing. I was born and raised there and most people are pretty friendly. What I love about Minnesota are the lakes. It's nice for swimming. I totally know what you mean about the flat farmland being monotonous. One perk is the peaceful solitude though.
My feed says this was posted before 4th of July.Having spent the last few years in bemidji, Minnesota great place for 4th of July good fireworks over the lake.nice state park and Isaka state park is nice head waters of the Mississippi. Minnesotans love summers because winters can be tuff.Ive experienced 50 below and lots of snow and I'm from Colorado.
Always glad to go on journeys with you!! Thank you again for making these videos. I don't know how you level your RV so good I have the darndest time with leveling, By chance would you like to do a quick 101 on leveling LOL I have the same blocks but I just can't seem to get level without going back and forth back and forth back and forth 😂
Love this type of town, I believe I would be quite happy their too. Did you ever watch Northern Exposure? Your start up music reminds me of that great show. As always another great video thanks.
And as for your list of places to live, maybe as a summer home because you really REALLY have to love winter to live here. We have some of the coldest temps in the nation. Negative temps for days and days. But it is beautiful and serene in winter. I love it!
I use my Waggle in my house when I’m not camping. I have 2 rabbits and a Ball Python, all of them would perish if the heat got above 90 degrees. I absolutely love the Waggle!!!
That's a coal chute, where the delivery man parked next to it and shoveled your load of coal down the chute, into the bin in the basement. Then the owner gets to keep going down in the coal dusty basement and filling the coal shuttle to stoke the furnace.
Hi Carolyn, I really enjoy your adventures, the small town parks are all over Indiana, Michigan and Ill. as well, they don't have motels so that their option for over nighters is the city parks. I think its fantastic and cheap.
Gotta love Minnesota small towns! I am proud to say this is MY hometown! You would have to go to Greenbush (10 miles away) for the 4th of July celebration. Nothing happening in Badger on the 4th! Sorry you missed the Twins for coffee. My favorite restaurant for friendly service and good food! ♥️
Eating healthy always a challenge….especially on the road I find…Wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is a helpful tool to see what effect the foods we eat have on our blood sugar. High blood sugars after meals will cause high insulin and weight gain and can lead to inflammation and high triglycerides (cholesterol)…All the best on your journey East!!!
In my hometown in Wisconsin, it has a park that you can camp in. To get that slide slippery, rub some wax paper on it. Boy, that just brought back a lot of memories.
I thought I was the only one still using checks?! 😆 I wouldn’t have thought anyone would be traveling with checks … but ok, another thing to know about van life.
Wow Carolyn, you are so right about the ginger, tumeric and lemon tea. I also add fresh pineapple. I was stiff as i would get out of my vehicle and it was hard to walk. Now i do not have that stiffness problem.😂
Great vid Carolyn! I've always wanted to visit MN. Luv luv how u always show us a little bit of everything, especially the old brick buildings...history! And yes, character...same reason I prefer old houses to cold, modern mansions (imo). Thx! Hugs to u & Sadie! 💜🐕🦋🌻

Alden, Iowa has a wonderful little town park campground. $15 W/E right on the Iowa River. It seems to be a Midwest thing although some of the ones we found were tent only. AuGres, Michigan has a nice one too.
I hope you show some of the other awesome places here in MN. It’s not all flat farmlands. Boundary Waters, N Shore of Lake Superior, and bluff country in SE MN are beautiful places. I live Minneapolis and love all our green spaces/parks within the city especially along the Mississippi River. I can follow Minnehaha Creek just a block from my house and walk a few miles in the river all along parkways and trails through the woods. Enjoy your travels. I’m sure you are far from MN now and look forward to see where you go next.
As a Southern Black Hills resident, the Black Hills and Badlands is best for visiting after Labor Day weekend thru mid October, weather permitting. Just my live/learned opinion as an introverted person.
The reason why the trailers in this video in Lancaster have no vehicles is they all belong to our Canadian people who have not been able to come stay due to COVID-19 restrictions. They leave their trailers there all year long.
Have you gone through Iowa? I grew up there. I felt it toooooo conservative as I am a multi-media artist. Love the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver Island where I’ve been living since 1971. But there are really good people in Iowa, especially my relatives.🥰 🦌💌❤️🚙
Worst coming to worst, you can manually jump the starting battery with the house batteries. Bear in mind, using the house batteries, is an emergency measure. Deep cycle batteries are optimized for slow draw, not big spurts, for starting (especially diesels, mine can use hundreds of amps).

Loved your video on this town and I just started drinking great blended drinks in the morning I will add ginger now😁
So glad you enjoyed Minnesota, Carolyn ! You speak of Minnesota Nice! Please visit again!
Enjoyed your video. Lovely small towns. Looks so peaceful. Sadie was enjoying it too. Safe travels🌞🦋❤️
Thank you and thanks for watching Sadie and me!
I agree with the 'Minnesota nice' thing. I was born and raised there and most people are pretty friendly. What I love about Minnesota are the lakes. It's nice for swimming. I totally know what you mean about the flat farmland being monotonous. One perk is the peaceful solitude though.
The lake are beautiful! Thanks for watching Amber!
I don't know how you level your RV so good I have the darndest time with leveling,
By chance would you like to do a quick 101 on leveling LOL
I have the same blocks but I just can't seem to get level without going back and forth back and forth back and forth 😂
Great suggestion!
Love this type of town, I believe I would be quite happy their too. Did you ever watch Northern Exposure? Your start up music reminds me of that great show. As always another great video thanks.
Northern exposure was a good show miss it
And as for your list of places to live, maybe as a summer home because you really REALLY have to love winter to live here.
I love small town life ❤
Neri's Waggle is on its way, got the one with GPS so I can stick in in her vest when we walk 😀
Awesome! I hope you enjoy the Waggle.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the recommendation. Maybe next time.😀
Eating healthy always a challenge….especially on the road I find…Wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is a helpful tool to see what effect the foods we eat have on our blood sugar. High blood sugars after meals will cause high insulin and weight gain and can lead to inflammation and high triglycerides (cholesterol)…All the best on your journey East!!!
Be careful of the algae in those warmer lakes
Also, think of all the pesticides in the water from the farms
Don’t let Sadie drink it
In my hometown in Wisconsin, it has a park that you can camp in. To get that slide slippery, rub some wax paper on it. Boy, that just brought back a lot of memories.
What town? :-)
great little temp monitor :) Badger Minnesota what a lovely little town I could think of worse places to settle down!
I thought I was the only one still using checks?! 😆 I wouldn’t have thought anyone would be traveling with checks … but ok, another thing to know about van life.
Carolyn, your AAA membership probably includes car/truck battery delivery and installation. You pay for the battery itself, but they do the work.
Except I don't have AAA. Can't stand them
@@CarolynsRVLife Oh, sorry. Thought I once heard you say you did.
Friends have told me that Texas has a lot of cities/towns with small camping parks available too.
Thanks! Glad you enjoy the history and the town tours!
"Summer here comes on like a zaftig hippie chick, jazzed on chlorophyll and flinging fistfuls of butterflies to the sun." --Michael Perry (Wisconsin Writer done good)
Alden, Iowa has a wonderful little town park campground. $15 W/E right on the Iowa River. It seems to be a Midwest thing although some of the ones we found were tent only. AuGres, Michigan has a nice one too.
The green can strangle you, with all the weeds and trees and vines,,,I love the rusty nail bar in this town
Duluth here!
Again thank you for coming to my home state of Minnesota the land of sky blue water.
As a Southern Black Hills resident, the Black Hills and Badlands is best for visiting after Labor Day weekend thru mid October, weather permitting. Just my live/learned opinion as an introverted person.
Thanks for remembering us here in Nz just had two weeks in lock down.
The reason why the trailers in this video in Lancaster have no vehicles is they all belong to our Canadian people who have not been able to come stay due to COVID-19 restrictions. They leave their trailers there all year long.
I was in Duluth in dead of winter long ago. I was freezing my a** off there. But I could see myself checking Badger MN, small town is the way to go.
Have you gone through Iowa? I grew up there. I felt it toooooo conservative as I am a multi-media artist. Love the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver Island where I’ve been living since 1971. But there are really good people in Iowa, especially my relatives.🥰

Worst coming to worst, you can manually jump the starting battery with the house batteries. Bear in mind, using the house batteries, is an emergency measure. Deep cycle batteries are optimized for slow draw, not big spurts, for starting (especially diesels, mine can use hundreds of amps).
