I love this method for making hats. Thank you very much for the demonstration. I find I like to only use one row between decrease if I am on the chunky with my dial set to a large stitch. I have also found that swapping the two middle stitches on the decrease before moving the outer two switches inward makes the decrease look a little more elegant.

+John Fulton I will do all ways of decreasing for the top of a hat, makes life interesting when they are all different. Now I can see that one can do up a row and decrease, it all depends on the machine and yarn. I will have to try the way you do it sometime. Berda

Thank you for this pattern for finishing a hat, I just used it on my KH 400 and it came out great! Now on to the next.

Wonderful! So glad this video helped you. This is how I hand knitted many hats before getting a machine, then in time, I started doing it on the machine.

I have a similar pattern for hand knitting with the main difference being the decreases for the crown. Where you have 4 lots of decreases across your work the pattern I have has three with a decrease on each side where the seam would be. With the first hat I made I on my LK150 I followed the pattern and just way to much sewing as the crown had four peaks so I worked out a better way and ended up similar to yours. I'm currently doing another hat and decided to try it as in the video.

Not everyone will like what another does and they find what works for them. I am happy you found your way. Berda

Hi Berda, do you know if this design comes in more than one size? - Looking for an easy one to suit a child and I can like you, do this on my LK150.

I made up the pattern according to my gauge on the Machine and Yarn used. If you need a pattern, contact me here: www.hobbyknitter.com/files/contact.html

Do you think this shaping technique would work with a ribber attachment on a 1x1 rib?

I had to review that video again to make sure. I can see it happening more like the 2nd part but sure you can also work this up in rib with short rows as in the first part. Just keep an eye on what needles are to be put to HP is all. If you do make one, would like to know how you did. Someday I will try it myself. Berda

I tried it actually and it worked! Although when I got to the shaping it was so tight I thought I'd gone wrong somewhere, really hard to transfer the stitches as you're going across an empty needle on each bed (as it's 1x1 rib)- my yarn was strong though so it didn't snap. Also I should have cast off earlier, the tip was quite pointed but I sorted that out while sewing up. Thanks for your help, your videos are so helpful!

Wish I was able to try that to make sure, but glad you did even though you had some struggles. The rest of us can learn from what you did also. Thanks for sharing what happened.

Has anyone tried to make christmas stockings with names and monograms on them? I want to know if it would be better to buy a sock machine or if I could do them on a machine like this one?

Not sure the Sock Machines will make Christmas socks but you can put a name on the top of a Christmas stocking. I do have some Intarsia videos but also a Duplicate Stitch would work. And if you have an embroidery sewing machine, that would work also.
      Hope that helps.
