- Black sperm donors represent less than 2 percent of all sperm donors at the country’s four largest cryobanks, according to a Washington Post analysis.
The severe shortage is forcing Black women who need donor sperm to conceive a child into a painful choice: Choose a donor of another race and raise a biracial child or try to buy sperm from unregulated apps and online groups.
The reasons for the shortage are myriad: failure among cryobanks to recruit Black donors; a selection process that demands a three-generation medical history (which may be challenging for Black men who may not have access to quality health care) and excludes donors with felony convictions; mistrust of the medical profession by Black men because of a legacy of historical discrimination. When these women need financial help, the state WILL come searching for the biological father to pay court-ordered child support. Best bet - guard your sperm.

There is a lack probably due to the fact that many young black men already have children and don’t want/need any more. They have a very high percentage of fathering multiple partners.

Not only are there a low rate of black sperm donors. Some sperm banks have ridiculous requirements that some normal men won't/don't meet. I've tried at plenty and gotten denied for unknown reasons (I have no medical issues, hold a good government job and have 3 associates degrees and 2 bachelor's degrees pending 2 classes for each)

Not really most donor kids are conceived by lesbians or straight couples with fertility issues. Lesbian are up front on about using a donor and the straight couples are never questioned if the guy is the father or not. It's not for lack of trying to donate. Many don't meet the minimum requirements in terms of gentic/health/medical screenings, education, and criminal background checks.

When I was looking at the sperm bank, there were all races available including Black. It could just have been none of available to her at that time- they must have been sold out. They don't force people to be sperm donors, they just get what they get and then test to ensure there's no sti's, etc.

I am now 30+ years older and to be honest I am glad I did not have children. The future for the young generation does seem so much bleaker now than in the late 1980s and '90s. 1. There’s been a case in North America of a man being sued for child support after having donated his sperm. The precedent has been set.
2. I refuse to sacrifice my offspring to a lesbian/gay couple, or a single mother. I am allowed to set the values in which my child is influenced by. My child, my rules.
3. As a man who’s seen the damage done to children by unstable mothers, why would I sacrifice my offspring for what? A couple dollars? There’s no money that should convince any man to make this sacrifice. These people have failed their biological imperative, so why would I want to give losers my genes. If they're smart they'll just explain from an early age that she was born with help from a donor to help normalize it so it doesn't potentially shatter her sense of identity later on as a teen/adult...Young kids normalize what their living conditions are because they're still developing their sense of identity, that's why it's generally much easier for young kids to adapt vs adults.

my husband had one child and chose to have a vasectomy eight years after. That is his only child. I think genetic testing becomes a huge factor as well not just the donor's color. Blacks with darker complexions have a higher chance of carrying the sickle cell trait. That would definitely change whose sperm would work better genetically. That's just an example

Sad as this is, I do understand why people wouldn’t want to donate something or even donate their eggs (I have eggs and a uterus so that’s why I’m bringing that up) I wouldn’t want someone who’s half me running around and I don’t know them and can’t raise them and they’re basically a stranger. I’d feel too guilty. I’m a POC, and I do plan on being a single parent by choice, and if I get monoracial kids, coolio. If I mixed kids, that’s cool too. I don’t want mixed kids, I don’t yearn for that all obsessively, but between picking a mixed kid or no kid at all, I’d pick a mixed kid because I’d still get to be a parent. I don’t care what my child’s ethnicity is.

It’s understandable why there aren’t many options. Generally, when people go to a sperm bank, they want certain qualifications such as education, height, genetics etc. Most black men who fall into that category will not entertain sperm donation. Usually these men want to have children with a wife and have a traditional family. Believe it or not, but well educated, professional black men are usually religious and conservative. Outside children are not an option.
I do feel for these children from sperm donation without fathers. They have no opportunity to meet their dads and they will never have a father figure either. But, we live in a selfish society so these mothers can do whatever they want. If they do not want criticism, then they can always not share on TikTok.

We have that technology, so why not use it. As far as donating, you guys would donate your organs, like the heart and kidney and so on if you could, why not help a women that actually wants a kid?
