    Is it possible to swap in a d16 vtec head with a non vtec zc d16 engine? Will it have vtec?

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, it depends on the ZC version. If it's a sohc it will work, the vtec trigger is controlled by the ecu. So you need an ecu and wire to trigger the vtec on/off. There is a dohc ZC similar to the D16A9. It won't work on a dohc Dseries

    I know this video is old. But I’m looking to rebuild my D16Z6 soon. What is a good tool to install and remove the valve keepers? I know there are a lot of great tools for B-series engine. But I haven’t seen any specifically for D-series. Thanks and great content!

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi bro, check for a universal spring compressor tool. Getting the retainers out is easy, getting them back in is a bit more challenging, a spring compressor tool will help alot.

    Heard your not supposed to remove all the valve train pieces. Is the head running in a car?

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, yes head is running fine, been on the dyno a few times, videos on the channel, no issues with the head, I will say it does have a lot of small pieces that can go missing or be fitting wrong, so I also won't recommend it if it's not necessary to disassemble.

      Awesome bro, just keep in mind you will need plug wires from a z6 and an adjustable cam gear to get timing back to 0deg, also check what the compression ratio will be with this combo, you can use the zeal online tool

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my case, I fitted a very basic stand-alone ECU. that way I had full control over ignition timing and air / fuel. I did a video on installing it available on the channel.

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      keep in mind there is 2 versions of vtec-e, head-code "PO7" is a small intake runner head, bad for performance. but head-code "P2J" is a big runner head, meaning even though it is vtec-e it is still better than a non-vtec.

    Longshot but how do I know that my head is at tdc (d16y8) but by looking at the cam? I removed the gear and now I don’t know where I should set it

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Vicente, the key that holds the cam pulley in place should face UP. so where the cam pulley bolts onto the cam, there is a keyway cut into the cam. that must face UP.

      Hola David, no estoy familiarizado con el motor D15ZC, ¿es quizás el JDM D15B o el bloque solo tiene el sello ZC? siempre que sea un motor SOHC, las cabezas pueden intercambiarse y encajarán. Los cabezales de la serie D17 y DOHC D no se pueden usar en los motores D16/D15. verifique el código de la cabeza, P08 o P2J son cabezas vtec. P2J es mayor compresión.

    do you have a whole parts list?

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, sadly no, I was once able to get a parts list printout from a honda dealership for something else. perhaps you can get it for the head. I would definitely recommend making sure you have all the parts if you buy a head, there is loads of small parts on the cylinder head that can easily go missing like the keepers and retainers, the rockers also have small springs, spacers and locking pins. all things that is not easy to find unless you go to the dealer.

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Taco, at first I used the red 3M scuff pad and strong degreaser for the carbon buildup, for the internal parts I used aerosol Brake & Parts Cleaner. the Honda cylinder head can be assembled with a 10, 12 and 14mm socket.

    does cleaning your engine pièces like that can extend the engine longevity?

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, maybe not extend, but if assembled dirty it can cause damage to bearings, journals and cam lobes if any dirt gets into your oil. it is always good to work clean when assembling. having dirt or metal shavings in oil passages can cause the engine to fail shortly after startup.

    • @masterjack8222
      @masterjack8222 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RisingBoostYT sorry I'm not native, I meant tearing apart your engine and cleaning it as opposed to let it untouched in the engine bay with carbon accumulated in its internals.

    • @RisingBoostYT
      @RisingBoostYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi @@masterjack8222 all good, I won't recommend disassembly just to clean, there are products available that you can use to help clean out carbon and sludge buildup. if a car is running as it should I would leave it "as is" unless the buildup is causing an issue. normally carbon buildup is a diesel engine problem, not so much petrol. I have seen really bad oil buildup on engine internals due to not changing oil, in a case like, that cleaning everything would help with longevity for sure.
