TURKMENISTAN Night Train | Turkmenabat to Ashgabat Travel

- This is what taking a night train is like in Turkmenistan! After crossing the border from Uzbekistan, we took the 27 Manat night train from Turkmenabat to the capital city, Ashgabat.
At the current black market exchange rates in September 2018, 19 Manat to the $US, the train cost $1.40 for a bed in a sleeper compartment for 6 people.
This was the beginning of an incredible journey across Turkmenistan. We only had a 5 day transit visa as were travelling independently, so unfortunately only got a brief glimpse of this fascinating country.

I could never be on the top bunk. I was amazed when I first saw a three bunker, and it was a Chinese train.
What an economical train ride and meal.
I think my highlight of Turkmenistan was actually the market and the friendly people there. The ladies' dresses and hats were so colourful.
Yeh those Chinese trains are quite a challenge. 🤣🤣

Yes, by law all buildings in the city centre must be covered by white marble. Cars must also be white, and if they are dirty, the driver is fined.
What type of Visa did you applied? Is it 5 days transit visa? Where did you apply? Online or from consulate in Uzbekistan? How many days required to process the application?

No, we had a 5 day transit visa so didn't need a guide.
I didn't know the exchange rate was that favorable =)
Official bank rate = 3.5 Manat for $1. Black market rate = 19 Manat for $1. Leave the bank card at home. 😆😆

Polish little cucumbers for the first pickling called Mało solne, Polish radish, may be first red currants.Please do try (Polish apples.....not rubbish Biedronka !), taste is from of fashion orchard ! Frugal on prices but bit more spent on taste ....full of flavour.

We dont like Biedronka, , their products special lines, different prices in the square shop , to other branches.
Polish first products home grown are called Nowalijki, not from plastic tunnels. Oh just try few small first Polish potatoes ( like here in UK Jersey potatos ), Smell is lively in the market. You have another posher market called stary Kleparz. Its pass the Barbacan. Its smart and very tidy but worth just seeing.i know you dont like twar9g but if you mix it with kefir or yogurt, sliced raddish green spring onion, salt and hard boiled egg squirt of honey if to sharp .. Lovely on bread, extra calcium for our bones. Twaròg or Biały ser in Krakòw is our ricotta, staple breakfast food.
