It would probably have been smarter if you did not mention the nationality of the person you stayed with. Still an interesting video, just a bit concerning that you do not seem to account for that individual's safety.
As a Turkmen, I have a few points here... Yes, it's not perfect there but every country/ state has their own quirks and it's unfortunate you were not able to explore it properly or meet the people properly. But it is not OK for you to make a video like this and spread false information about a place that you truly didn’t get to see and experience properly. Now about the points you made: - the locals live in the capital and the "white marble flats".... the government gives people flats when they are completed, depending on the situation etc. - The Internet, yes is regulated and restrictive but people always find ways to access it and use it and it is available as broadband and on mobile and has been for years now! - it is NOT 'The most dangerous' country to live in.... whoever told you that is lying through their teeth.... Who would have thought the 2 rich privileged babies with a giant dog who spend their life ''travelling' who know fuck all about a country. I laughed out loud as the 'obsessed' with horses part. I'm from australia and if you told me everyone is obsessed with Kangaroos because you saw a few flags with a boxing kangaroo we'd laugh at you. It's amazing how people like these 2 who are 'so worldly' are so ignorant. Cool video though, some great shots. just take out the sound next time.
I recently met some people from Turkmenistan and they were so nice. They told me little bit about their country and I had to do some research on my own too. Thank you for sharing!
Hello everyone, I am originally from Turkmenistan and go back and forth, so one thing people always say is, nobody is allowed to enjoy, no this is not true. Population is low and sadly are overseas due to dictatorship and economy. However there is no segregation or anything like that and buildings are actually occupied. It’s super stoic culture outwardly plus add dictatorship then you get that super abnormally quite outside.
Thanks for the insight on the country from the perspective of a native person. Any time I see a video of this state, I am reminded of two visits I've made to Pridnestrovie/Transnistria; the stoic appearance of the locals, the quiet streets of the capital, yet the general good-naturedness of people when one speaks to them (most people know at least some English). And yes - as described in the video - the immaculate appearance of the city streets and gardens. I was really struck by how many people were working on keeping the place presentable when I was there. Of course I'm not under any illusions that these people are being paid well for their services.
I found your lack of appreciation and disrespect towards the country and its leader disappointing. Did you need to qualify everything as "crazy" and "weird"? I advise you to learn and apply some basic guest ethics and etiquette. Lastly, despite your negative spin and unnecessary derogatory messages, I hope to visit this beautiful country someday. Thank you.

It's well within the realm of possibilities that the Turkmen officials at the Turkmenistan embassy were reluctant to issue visas to foreign applicants because of the potential risk of those foreigners making videos like this one. That you guys were issued the Turkmenistan visa and ended up making precisely such a video wherein you report from an independent perspective and subsequently released it without, -- (I presume), -- getting its contents approved from Turkmenistan government, should be enough to get some visa-issuing heads rolling at the Turkmenistan embassy.
