Hi! 05:25 min Winchester Cathedral - it's perfectly normal for this rose to have pink strokes on the buds, even of an adult rose, this is quite common because these are signs of heritage from Mary rose. With love from rose growers from Moscow) usda 4-5

But I'd also include sunlight exposure to the list for factors that change bloom shape/color/longevity. I have a rose bush that I have to keep on partial shade or else its blooms completely lose their shape, their colors fade out and drop all their petals in just about a day.

I try to only plant own root roses. A little harder to find, but they can take damage killing them back to the ground and come back true. Several nurseries specialize in own root roses. They are the best!!

thank you for sharing this information. My rosebud became crocked, due to aphid infestation. I don't know if it will bloom sideways. 🤣I'm hoping for the best. I have a lot to learn so I will be watching your videos and taking notes in my journal.

Could the petal count be different with the variation of soil, temperature, etc...? I have a Lichfield rose, third season, which has only 25 petals as opposed to the 100 petals as advertised. It's not what I expected and am wanting to pull her out.
Some of Roses like 'cold' wheater.. some 'warm'.. but most of the grafted are really like the heat (tropical & sub tropical)..Thus, most of the roses need time to matured (some need 3 year) to produce quality bloom & pure colour.. some are because of fertilizer & microb..
Last 2 years my roses was being eaten by weevils. I never got alphids ever. I have to drown weevils in soapy water cause nothing kills them. They can fly and breeds in soil. I can't seem to get rid off them. That really bites !

I watched another video with Paul Zimmermann on DA roses and they said DA actually recommend planting the crown 1-2 inches below the soil line.
Yup, I absolutely agree. There are differing opinions on rose crown planting depth. I choose not to plant deep and cover the canes because I’ve lost too many roses from the root stock rose overtaking it. With the crown just above ground, I can always see what’s going on.

The environment is a factor for why the roses don't look like what it should be ...as per experience.I planted munstead wood in a pot and position it in a windy sunny side.for 4 years it blooms but the flowers dont last and the plant is quite stunted in growth.Then i transfered it in a less windy but sunny side part of the garden in its 5th year in the same pot The rose just shoot and blooms proliferously the color is intense and last longer.i enjoyed it so much.

My mustead is about 3fttall and quite bushy...feed every 2 weeks and she is not prone to black spot.Thanks for sharing your roses you have a magnificent location.as in WOW!

Hi!Rose Geek,I feed all my roses(pot and ground grown) with Westland high performance rose food by late feb or early march which is spring here in Ireland.You can get it online i suppose?Then by april every 2 weeks for my pot roses i give them a watering of phostrogen.For the ones on the ground i water it every 3 weeks.This year our weather is not great as summer is so delayed...what i mean is that there was not much sunshine in May.I suppose you have no problem with sunshine in your part of the world😀.We need more here.Anyhow just try it.😇
I have the David Austin The Poets Wife all it does is lay on the ground. The stems don't support the rose. I don't know what to do! Does anyone know why this happens.
By chance is your rose new this season? If you watch the video I posted yesterday and scroll to 3:11you will see a rose new this year that lays on the ground. When you prune in the fall, you will remove all but the strongest canes and this will resolve the issue (I'll do a video). Until that time, you can buy something like this amzn.to/34pSne3 or this amzn.to/3wH08s1 .Let me know if this works for you.
@@TheRoseGeek it is the second year. I trimmed it way back last fall, grew back quite a bit but all the roses still are laying on the ground. I trimmed it back again we will see what happens. Thank you I will try what you posted.

Off subject but I wanted to tell you about a DA rose named Cressida. Its a cross between Chaucer, (keep good care of it)... and Ferdinand Conrad Meyer, which everyone should have. You can't buy it anymore. It had the most amazing scent . I wish someone would breed it again.

@@TheRoseGeek I thought about contacting the nursery in Canada, where you bought Chaucer, and asking them to bred this one. You can still also buy Ferdinand Conrad Meyer ,which I have,and is my favorite. When I bring one in , you can smell it all over the house.
Also I found Kordes Earth Angel, at Lowe's I was so excited, of course I bought it.

I have so much to say, so I'm writing it in bullet points, so I don't sound too discombobulated.
- Good point, we're in the wild; they're in a greenhouse and/or have a nursery team AND production team getting their roses picture perfect.

- I have to get on board with Bonide! I keep ordering things and then I remember Bonide!
