    THE PIECE
    "Recitative" is the fourth movement from "Eight Pieces for Four Timpani" by the American composer Elliot Carter. This movement was composed in 1946 and published with the others in 1966. Carter dedicated "Recitative" to Morris Lang.
    The whole suite contains of 8 pieces of which 6 Carter had composed in 1946, including "Recitative". At that time the pieces were widely considered very difficult if not impossible to play effectively. As time passed and performing skills grew Carter added two pieces in 1966 that included pedal-tuned timpani and decided to publish (before there only existed his manuscripts) the complete set.

    AURÉLIEN GIGNOUX
    Nominated Victoire de la Musique in the category of Instrumental Soloist Revelations 2021, winner of the second prize at the prestigious ARD international competition in Munich, and of the prize for the best interpretation of the commissioned work, he has already performed as a soloist with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the Münchner Rundfunk Orchester, the Orchestre Symphonique de l'Opéra de Toulon and the Osnabrücker Symphonieorchester.
    He joined the Trio K/D/M in 2019 and became soloist of the Ensemble Intercontemporain in 2021. In 2022 he became an official Kolberg Artist.
