  • In my interview with Randy for Jazz Master Summit, I asked about his writing process. His answer gave me much more than I could have hoped for as he took me step by step through the process of him coming up with the intro to his classic tune, Some Skunk Funk.
Randy's description confirms two things that I've heard from other writers: 1 keep a sketchbook of ideas, and 2. listen for happy accidents that can make their way into your writing.

He told me that story in my car a few years ago. It's so cool.... Randy is the man in so many ways. Truly a musical idol to me and a friend. I feel very fortunate to have become frends with Randy over the years. He is super cool and very giving person.....
