    Pool noodles work better than the weather striping to seal the bottom of the AC. Plus it makes it easer to take the unit down in the winter.

    Love it that you have AC. You deserve it. I have the Jackery 1000 and run my 6000 btu stand up ac. In my van when traveling. Had a hole cut in the floor for venting. Will run for approximately 8-9 hrs, but my van is extremely small. Recharge with solar, DC or electric.

    We would put a box fan in the window in the early morning to draw in cool air In our large house. Then shut everything up to keep hot air out. Run air condition less during warm temps. Amazing how much cooler the house stayed.

  • @neenee7362
    @neenee7362 3 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    You can keep it higher than 70, maybe 75-78 inside. The AC will take humidity out of the house and that alone will make it feel cooler. Then the AC won’t have to work as hard to keep it cool. Get the insulation and walls done. Drapes or reflective film on your windows will help keep the sun from blasting heat inside. Just a couple tips. Not raggin on you

    • @karenholliday2703

      Also use fans when you're in the room. No fans when you're not there.

    • @baneverything5580
      @baneverything5580 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@karenholliday2703 Get a real battery....300 ah (3.8 kwh) Ampere Time LiFeP04 with 4000+ charge cycles costs less than the Jackery and will power this tiny AC for at least 7 hours full blast. Much better bargain over the long run to get this, an inverter, charge controller, and enough solar panels to keep up with electrical needs. If used in a very tiny room the thermostat will allow it to run all night most likely.

  • @shelleymccrory-martines9906
    @shelleymccrory-martines9906 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Hi Jason. It’s super Hot/Humidity here in Dallas too. Tip: Buy a Cheap Spring Loaded Curtain Rod. Put a Dark curtain on it, cut to length above the ac and hang it in your window blocking the Sun. You’d be surprised how much difference it makes. Plus you can make a Folding Panel out of your scraps and just stand it vertically to cover the opening. Putting a sheet there won’t keep the air in the room. That way No nails/hdwe. has to be used. Block that cold air in your bedroom and sleep in there.

    I think you meant to say it was pulling 400 watts on full load and 80 on eco. What we do is use the generator to get the tiny house to temp then plug into the bluetti. Mine is about 600sqft though and I’m running a mini split. Pulls about 1200 watts on start up and 400watts when at temp. Still doesn’t last all night because we are only pulling in about half the watts we are taking out but it definitely lasts longer that way. I have a window unit I was thinking about putting in at least upstairs

    I had (stolen) that exact generator from Habor Freight. I was living in a huge farm house at that time. It was November in Michigan. We were without power due to a storm. Trees down everywhere that took down the grid power for 9 days. I used my generator to run my whole house. A few lights in key areas, fridge, freezer, well pump, and wood fired outdoor boiler for heat to my house & the neighbors house & her garage, both houses are over 2,700 sq ft. Plus the heater I built for my horses water trough to keep the water at 45 - 50°F which is the proper temp for livestock. The outdoor temps were 20 - 30°F, so below freezing. Everything worked very well, including the TV for my now ex. It ran approximately 8 hours on a tank of gas doing everything. They are great little generators.

    If you want to do a good AC system get a mini split. Windows unites are good for like emergency to get cool air if need be, but they are they are not the most efficient. You will leak a lot of air though the bottom of the AC unite, and the top of the window. were as the mini split you drill a hole run the line set and seal the hole and your good to go. window unites are I call leaky, leak way to much cool air or let to much hot air in. Were if you get a mini split you can both cool, and heat with them. .

    Jason that real cool about the ac at least at night you will be able to cool down at night and some during the days I'm a little lazy my self I need to put my window unit in. I been taking it out during the winter. I need to but some snake boots like you wear I had to shoot a copperhead that was on my front porch last night I really hate snakes.

    Isn’t it hot in that rabbit pen? It is open on the front that helps. Oh my goodness I couldn’t eat those babies after raising them.

    I am so glad I found your video, I will soon be in a very similar setup. I bought four one hundred watt solar panels and a Eco Flo solar generator, as a start. I figure if the A/C is pulling 500 watts while my panels are putting in 400 watts that is pretty good, about 100w net pull. Advice on the window unit, those plastic side curtains with get UV damage and crack apart over time. Simply use primer and white spray paint on the outside. Also get a pair of window locks, one for each side, to more securely keep the window A/C in place. I look forward to getting out of Phoenix, and getting off grid. Any land for sale near you? What state, general area like near city, and elevation also, thanks bro! 👍

    I wonder if your ac unit would cool better if you had passive exausts at the extremes of the house. That way the cool air would be pushed to the far edges of your house. Heppa filters would slow the passive exhaust and hopefully keep the cool air in and the hot air out..

    Good video, lots of useful info!
    But for future reference, standing an AC on it's side even for a few moments is a bad idea. It can damage the compressor, and the oil inside runs to the wrong places. Same reason you don't move a refrigerator on it's side. If you do need to put it on it's side for some reason, it needs to be upright for the same amount of time to let the oil settle. Your test may well have been skewed by your tipping of the unit before installation.
    Also, the thicker foam was meant to fill the gap between the window panes created by it being in the "up" position. 😁

    YAY FOR THE AC !!

  • @williamirelan9332

    The foam you put under the ac is actually supposed to go in the gap between the upper and lower windows . It keeps the cool air in and the bugs out. Your rabbits will chew through the wood on the end of your hutch if you don't have screen or chicken wire stapled to the inside.
