Much has been sad about how impossible it is to believe that Rory didn’t know that she needed all of this extra stuff in order to be appealing to a place like Harvard or any Ivy League school. Also, much has been said about how silly it is that we have the audience are supposed to decide with her Small town girl self when we know that she would be a legacy admission to Yale because of her grandfather. There’s a lot about the way that this show talks about class privilege with Lorelei and Rory.
I agree with you in principle (!!!), but I think part of the living in different worlds thing, is that Emily lives in a world of duty. And according to duty, Lorelai should have told family first, regardless of the quality of relationship with her mum. Lorelai lives in a world like you describe and from that perspective her actions fully make sense. I think she reaches out because she grew up in that duty world and although she doesn't like it or agree with it, she understands it's rules, and she understands that in Emily's eyes she has trodden all over it (both in general and in this instance). And in that world, Emily saying what she says about the Tiara is meeting Lorelai in the middle. But what I'd never clocked before that became obvious in this watch through is the contrast between Rory and Dean's communication and conflict resolution and Emily and Lorelai's, which is really interesting and so starkly different. The fact that the 16 year olds show so much healthier communication and emotional intelligence than Emily is really telling.
Lorelei is the more common spelling or at least the spelling with another meaning, but it’s Lorelai for the character. You can add it to your dictionary to make it easier.
Been loving your reactions, Ryann!! I actually just finished Gilmore Girls this week, so bittersweet haha I wanted to recommend a show to you that I think you'd love - My Mad Fat Diary! British show taking place in the mid 90s, fantastic soundtrack and i really think you'd love it! :)
Rory shouldn't have cancelled the evening plans and didn't need to and it is reasonable for Dean to be a little put out by it but, also, I feel like Dean should, by now, recognise when Rory is panicking. It should be obvious to him after the time they've been together that she just needs some time to vent and reset and she will be fine spending time with him again.
Thank you so much for this 🙏🏻❤️ I desperately needed a distraction as I wait (all too impatiently) for my packages to arrive 😂🙈 The delivery driver is literally parked half way down my block eating a snack in his van and has been for over 20 minutes 😅 I only went out there cuz I thought he was lost but nope, he was just hungry ig 🤣🤷🏻
@ryannrodkey5669 yeah, I did eventually 🤣 When I mentioned it to him, he said they used to be allowed to take their breaks at whatever times they wanted and now, it doesn't matter what they're doing, they have to take them at the set times 😅 seems like a flawed system to me, but what do I know 😂🤷🏻
Dean and Rory are a classic example of being in love, but not being compatible. Lorelei and Emily's relationship is a one step forward, two steps backwards. I often think people watching the show in their teens and younger have decided that some family relationships are just too much work with no common ground/benefits.
I just noticed a false move with Emily ... something about her reaction that didn't ring true. Even Emily would normally be at least polite to Max and acknowledge his invitation to meet his parents, no matter how she feels in the moment. Doing the proper thing in terms of etiquette is very important to Emily. And the in-laws meeting each other seems like exactly the sort of social transaction Emily could most easily latch onto because of how proper it is. On the other hand, maybe her failure to respond is meant to show how DEEPLY upset she really is.
Lorelai and emily are so petty (me too...) but while emily sucks you can see her point of view. It's not about being told first, I think, but rather about being told last like an afterthought. Suki was already inviting people to the shower which suggests that lorelai had been engaged for quite some time. Emily resents being shut out of lorelai's life and this is a huge nail in the coffin of closeness between them. It makes it harder too that rory and lorelai are so close by stark comparisson. It's her own fault but not out of malice...
There is a video you can search on TH-cam of Elijah Wood being pranked in a phone interview and it’s one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen- the sweatshirt takes a few lines and responses from that interview! 🩶
Lol, the Gilmore girls are obviously related - all three of them get upset, anxious and have a fit similar to each other, and usually in the same episode like here. Like mother like daughter like granddaughter...😂❤
I don't think that's true. Lorelai would slit her own wrists rather than intentionally hurt Rory. The times we see when she does hurt Rory, it's unintended. In fact her problem is the opposite of Emily's. She communicates with Rory easily... and arguably sometimes TOO MUCH. Emily lashes out in a way Lorelai doesn't. All three Gilmore woman are sarcastic, but Emily aims it directly at her daughter. Lorelai and Rory are sarcastic about situations. There's no heat to it. Emily wants to hurt Lorelai. That's certainly not her sole intention, but in the moment she rarely to never stops herself.
@@Wiley_Coyote I wasn't referring to their motivations etc. but the way they sometimes handle emotions. But now that you brought it up, I think even Rory and Lorelai can sometimes lash out at each other. Not with the exact same verocity as Emily because she is Emily and has her own issues, but Lorelai and Rory are not above being petty or even hurtful. But anyway, like I said, I was referring to the way they tend to handle especially certain emotions.
“ that’s what i wore “ i started bawling. emily and lorelei’s relationship will never not be the most heart breaking parts of this show
@@lilly50821 both actresses are fantastic in the roles. 🙌🏽
Emily wasn't the first to be told of her only daughter's wedding. Or the 2nd. Or 3rd. Or 10th. Or 20th. Or 35th. Possible 50th person to be told? Hmmm
Paris in the hard hat! An iconic moment for me personally.

im caught up on all the reactions so now i have to wait for you to post instead of just binging them all haha
oh no! that's the worst! I'm so sorry 😭
@ryannrodkey5669 haha you're totally fine! I'm enjoying the content :) 🫶🏾
Lorelai and Emily's relationship is always so interesting! (Lorelai, btw, not Lorelei.) This series really is my comfort series.
Thanks! Everytime I type Lorelai it autocorrects to ei so I figured I was just spelling it wrong lol 😂
Autocorrect phewy @@ryannrodkey5669

Is that an Elijah Wood prank reference on a shirt? You got good taste.
Haha yes, yes it is 🤣
I think I’d tell Grandpa he needs to apologize to Dean before we’re fine.

Emily is a deeply flawed character but DAMN does the actress nail every single scene she’s in. I can’t not love her, even when I can’t stand her lol.
yes! the actress is incredible! even in moments that she bothers me, she really kills it! 🩶
I want to read Lane’s novel.
❤❤
It’s off topic but I’m really curious what the rest of your sweater says 😊

Dean should have offered to come build the house too.

Oh god were getting closer to the 5th episode! 🤢If you were to skip from S02E05 to the beginning of season 4, no one would be upset!
What
That’s just ridiculous
and miss one of the best characters? nah...I dont think so
That would be upsetting.
A violent abuser is the best character? You must love Trump.
