Choosing a guitar amp is very personal........I have been buying and selling amps since I was a teenager, and been down many rabbit holes over the years. As a Fender dealer in Aberdeen, I acquired a Super Reverb 15 years ago, bought direct from the Fender Distributers on a 'to clear' deal, so understood it had probably been a return, ex demo or a 'second'. Sadly, it was dead out of the box, and so I sent it back to Fender UK Service, after they promised to do a complete check over, and restore to 100%.......The engineer true to his word, replaced a few rogue components, and rebiased to factory spec. Oh Boy...... the first strum on a Strat was the game changing moment for me.......The tone..... it blew everything else I had in my huge collection of amps out of the water.....It still is after 15 years by a good margin, the most satisfying amp I've ever played through... I've no desire to mod or change anything about the sound. I have smaller, lighter, more portable, and more expensive amps in my collection (and I'm always interested in what new boutique models have to offer), but to date none are close in tone to my Super Reverb. I'm spoiled now! So, this amp has to be on the short list of any serious player looking for a good all round amp for recording and gigging.

About two years ago I finished the rebuild on the 66 Super reverb amp that I got for $150 back in 1978 (two year job). I love my amp for most of the same reasons that you seem to love yours for, However the gz 34 tube rectifier suites my taste better, and I rebuilt my original turret boards myself,restored the original tolex, replaced the reverb tank and shielded cables , and had to replace the original power transformer (as she let out the smoke after the rebuild) ; and just as you did, went with ceramic 10"s rather than the vintage alnico speakers.This thing is the MONSTER that it was meant to be, and makes a killer bass amp too. Love yer video, really great tone and sound too.
I’ll lend you some helpful advice. Since it sounds so damn good with those copperheads, Do Not change the speakers! When it sounds great, don’t change a thing. Awesome playing, tones and amp
You're probably right!
Out of all my amps I ever had and have, my 67 Super Reverb is still the best sounding of all of them. I got around to restoring it about 3 years ago with just the basics and reconed the original CTS10 which were dated 1965. You are getting some great tones, especially on your ES345. I always felt when Leo Fender and his team came up with the concept of the SR it was to make the ES semi hollow bodies sing out loud. My ES355 is perfectly paired with this amp. Nice job!
It is a great combo! Interesting r.e old speakers, i really should have considered reconing the originals but practically i just wanted power/reliability for gigs. I do keep my eyes peeled for original CTS ceramics on ebay though 🤣

@kerryhsu7903 Isn't it! I bought a plug that fits in the rectifier slot! All you need to do us rebias. Google them, I think it was TAD that made this one 😎
We just saw Duane Betts and his band, Palmetto Motel on New Years Eve. Both Duane and his guitarist were playing Supers and by the time the clock hit midnight, they were definitely warmed up and sounding sweet.

@@AlexHamilton I have heard on multiple occassions that a Super is one of the few higher-wattage Fender amps that also sounds great on a low volume. Is this actually true?

I have a silver face Super Reverb I bought in 1972. I was told it was a 1967. I'm not sure when Fender made the switch from black to silver. MIne sounds every bit as good as yours. Perhaps you know more about these amps and know when Fender made the color change.

.SRV and a Strat = Super Reverb 4x10. He played with 15s in a Super but the 4/10 version was the best sound.
At 2:17 when you play the red strat, is that straight in? And at what volume do you play?Or with an overdrive between? Because with my Super, it just stays clean… You have that nice edge of breakup tone! Great playing too!! 👍🏻

It happens the same to me. I have a 68 SR (silver face but still black face circuit) and with the strat, at 6 is super clean….

Do you use a attenuator?
how good are the copperheads? do they distort when cranked? or do they remain clean? Im trying to find good high wattage speakers for my Super reverb that dont distort too much. I have the stock Jenson p10r speakers and they're too flubby and not tight enough for me.
Yes they're not bad. Anything ceramic will hold better than those jensens imo! I'm going to try rajin cajuns next! If I can find a used quad cheep enough 🤣
@@AlexHamilton yes! i also have my eyes on rajin cajuns but theyre like over 600 for a quad of them. im thinking of selling the quad of jensens from my amp to help pay them

My friend imported it originally, but generally they're not too hard to find no. One crops up every month or so!

Do you gig with this much? Some amp guys are steering me away from vintage original amps because of reliability.. wondering if this is true in your experience?
Every gig. Never let me down! I had a crackling last week though, thought it might have been the amp ... but it turns out even my 2 year old van damme patch cables aren't as reliable as this old girl 🤣

Fine playing. Your Super does not sound good at all when it goes into distortion. I find these are better off with 5881's than with 6L6's. And try a 5R4GY in the rectifier spot.
Let's hear your super go into distortion then?
