    One thing that goes highly unaccounted for with yellow burns is hot boiling water. A typical Arizona summer day is about 112 and if you leave your hose out, the last thing you want to do is just start spraying away after it's been sitting our there for hours. I learned this the hard way.

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I spent some summers in Arizona. The hot water never crossed my mind. I can tell you I've had the pleasure of drinking from a hose during the hot chandler summers. The snake bit me pretty good ;) . You make a good point. Thanks for the comment.

      Great point even up here in NY in the summer you’ll have that issue and with a sprinkler system there isn’t much you can do about that.

      Just to make sure I'm on the same page with everyone. We want to diagnose the areas separately due to the uneven pattern. We also want to diagnose and fix the sprinkler coverage in each section. I would use all the recommended solutions as a blanket app on this lawn since the majority of it is under stress. You can use the essentials plus with a nitrogen source as a spot solutions for areas that are struggling, or areas that have gone dormant, which I often do.

    You are a very intelligent man. I was wondering if you could tell me what might be my issue with my lawn? I live in Saskatchewan Canada so we get winter 6 months of the year. Down to -32 -36 Celsius at times. For the past 3 years I’ve tried to fix my back lawn. I started the first year with a lawn that was half dead patches. So I seeded it and it came in decent, but the following spring the dead patches came back. So the second year I tilled everything up thinking it was a compacted soil issue. I seeded. Watered and fertilized. By mid summer I had a perfect green thick lawn with no weeds. I was very impressed with it. But by the next spring half of the lawn was dead again. So I tried a different seed and after it was established I only watered it deep once a week to encourage deep root growth. Again I had a beautiful lawn. This spring when the snow melted it looked promising but the same thing happened. Over half the grass dead. The only thing I can think of is that there is a lack of nutrients deep in the soil. And any nutrients that I add to help the grass grow is sitting on the top inch of soil. And I was thinking that would cause shallow roots and with shallow roots it would lead to the winter killing the grass. The grass that is established in patches threwout the back yard comes up year after year. It is only the grass that I seed that dies every year. And even tho it looks picture perfect in the summer I can never get it to last. This year I put some compost down with the grass seed and starter fertilizer to give it a better chance. Do you know why my new grass dies every winter?

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So here's my 2c. My opinion is the water isn't draining well enough in the spring and its most likely getting too soggy. The nutrients should still be there regardless. I would be diligent on doing an end of the season short mow and checking water levels early. You may need to do some preventive fungal treatments or find a way to increase drainage.

    I'm a lawn care technician and I'm learning some good tips from you. I will say you're a little too dependent on power rakes when you will do more good with core aeration. You need to get air, moisture, and nutrients deeper into the soil to solve some of the problems that you're only "scratching the surface" with. Well done videos all around!

      Begin by identifying the type of grass you have. the ph of the soil, and what goals of how you would like the lawn to be. Once you identify if you have warm or cool season grass types we can go from there.

    Hi loved your video. We’ve moved into a house and the lawn is spotty at best. There are moles (which we are trying to eradicate) killed grubs, treated 3x for weeds. There is a combo of grasses. What could we seed with that will fill in and overtake the rest of whatever grasses there are?

    I just killed off my entire front and back lawn with Glyphosate. I had an abundance amout of fungus, bermuda grass and chickweed. I have always had a nice TTF lawn and with the heat we had in South Carolina this year and no rain, it just got stressed out even with my sprinkler running on a timer. My question to you is I just applied the Gly this past weekend. It started to work within 2 to 3 days. Once it completely takes it course.

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey there Ivette, sounds like you're doing a great job prepping the soil. How I like to do it is two rounds of glyphosate back to back 14 days apart. Then 2 weeks after that I'll seed. I feel that the mix of humic, kelp, fish emulsion and air8 is a good cocktail and will help condition the soil. I'm not sure I'd add anything to the mix. If you wanted to add something to help stimulate the growth you can purchase an organic source of fertilizer. I have used liquid launch and I've been happy with it. It's basically liquid cow manure.

      This is a great question. Most lawns have weeds because the grass isn't thick enough to cover all the ground. Weeds are a bi product. I would start by making sure your sprinkler coverage is on point. This will be IMO 70% of your success. As for fall preperation I would spot spray the weeds diligently, overseed, use a bio stimulant and reintroduce mycorrhiza into the soil asap.

    I also applied round-up to some flower bed weeds. I used to do commercial property maintenance in Orlando, FL, where herbicide works very quickly, especially round-up. I'm shocked how slowly these herbicides work here, is that normal?

    This video def hit home like you said. Thanks so much for the content! What do you use for killing bindweed (morning glory)? I've been spraying my nearly 1 year old Kentucky Blue sod with Fertilome Weed Free Zone (4 oz) with 2 gal water and 2 tbs baby shampoo (as the surfactant). This spray doesn't harm the grass (unless I overdue it) and kills the existing bindweed, but new weeds pop up every week. I know that his will be a journey to get rid of bindweed, but what products do you recommend? Any tips for Fall and Spring treatment?

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Speedzone and t-zone are my favorites to use for killing bindweed, wild violet, and other hard to control weeds. Speedzone IMO is the most agressive but has the most potential to burn the lawn. Be sure to apply it before the daytime temps hit 80 degrees or it will volatile and burn the lawn. During the hot summer, No matter which product you use to kill morning glory, its best to wake up really early or stay up really late when the night time temps are at there lowest.
      Fertilome is a good spray and if its working for you stick with it. I find it takes up to 2 years to properly control bindweed. Bindweed has the ability to cut itself off and shoot the opposite direction at will. Sounds like you're spraying a good mixed solution. The only other item you could add would be a little bit of fertilizer (10% to 16% ammonium nitrate). This will help the plant uptake the herbicides by forcing a little growth.
      Pre emergents are going to be your friend with long term control of crabgrass. I would blanket app a pre emergent like prodiamine both spring and late fall.
      Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck!!
