Tiffany would have never thought of that!! I was just thinking what could I use instead. I typically avoid the comment section but I'm glad I looked. If you line the can with cling wrap you could get it out easy or make it by spreading out the rice and doing it cookie cutter style with the can! Thank you Tiffany!
Please show your mom lots of love. I lost my Japanese mom to cancer unexpectedly and really miss her. It warms my heart to see you two making food together!
John Smalldridge I am so sorry for your loss. Hope you are doing better now but I know you'd never stop missing your beloved mom.. I also enjoy watching them cooking together. His mom is so sweet & they seem to have a good relationship. Please take a good care of yourself!
Reading this makes me sad. I know one day I will be going through the same thing. I hope you can find more joy than pain in the memories of your mother
You can also use the can the Spam came in as a mold. If you line the inside with cling-film you can put the rice inside and pack it down, then pull the cling-film up out of the can and the rice will be shaped the same way. Perfect size since it is the same shape as the spam!
That was heart warming! I already knew how to make musubi but I watched the entire video because it was full of love, admiration and respect for your mother. LOVED IT! She’s beautiful!!
My husband and I visited Hawaii last July.... We have been craving Musubis!!! I´m going to surprise my husband after this! Thank you! Your mom is very sweet
When I was stationed in hawaii in the army in 2010-2014, I used to buy musubi's all the time from gas stations. I miss those.. So here I am, learning how it's made lol. Thanks
Please thank your mom for appearing in this video and teaching us how to make these. I was so happy to see her - she looks great! I also appreciated knowing how to make these without a mould. I grew up eating Klik - which is the Canadian version of SPAM. My mom would slice it and fry it and I loved it. I am going to be trying this!
Lyndsay Wells, The Kitchen Witch Aww thanks so much my friend. Klik. I love that name! It sure sounds better than Spam! Try this out and let me know how you liked them ok. :)
Thanks for sharing. Great video. Here is another great recipe for the sauce. 4 tablespoons mirin 7 tablespoons soy sauce 4 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
Tried this. Wayyy to salty even with the reduced salt spam. I can’t seem to find a good sauce recipe anywhere. I tried equal parts soy sauce and it was way better but still not as good as the one I had at 7/11
No one beats mom’s cooking. Michelin stars might be amazing at that moment, but memories behind my favorite meals like chicken adobo will always make me smile. Your mom is so sweet! Thanks for the recipe and I’ll make it right now because it’s so easy.
I see that this video was uploaded 3 years ago. Your mom is so cute. I hope she is doing well. Thank you for the wonderful recipe and her teaching. Please take care of your mom. She reminded me my own mom (Japanese) who I have lost to a cancer. Now I am going to make me this for my daughter
I just made this and everyone loved it! They gobbled it up so quickly and kept asking for more even though I wasn't even finished assembling them haha XD The only thing I changed was I used roasted seaweed snacks instead of nori cuz I didn't have any, but it still turned out great! Thank you for the AWESOME recipe :)
Nori is still thw same as swhat you would call seaweed snacks honestly here in hawaii theres at least 2 types of nori i know the regular one and the sushi nori is what i call it and you can make spam handrolls for them on the go its just a small ball of rice regular snack nori and small rectangles of spam hope this helps
I realize this is an older video but I have just discovered your posts! You look like your mother and she totally reminds me of my grandmother. She was part Cherokee and Choctaw Indian. Love the videos. Tell her thank you for cooking for us!
I don’t think this video could be anymore precious and adorable! Thank you to your Mother for appearing and than you for sharing! I caught a random Tabieats video and fell in Love you folks and went back to watch all the videos from day one. They are all great!
Sinichi, I can't believe how delicious spam musubi looks! I'm totally amazed! I proclaim that it looks awesome! Thanks for introducing us to your beautiful, talented mother! She did a magnificent job on this recipe!
Juanelo1946 Oh, this is one of those marvelous things that were invented in Hawaii and is a must-try item. So easy yet so good! And thank you for saying that about my mother. I think she was nervous but hopefully she had fun!
Thank you!!! My husband and I first tried spam musubi at 711 on the Big Island about 17 years ago. We fell in LOVE with it! Now wanting to make it at home for him.
Awesome video, love that your Mom was in the video with you. She is so sweet. I adore spam musubi and your homemade teriyaki is a really nice touch. Thanks for sharing your recipe :)
i made this recipe for my parents and it made them smile really brightly, so i am very grateful for okaa-san to have shared this recipe with us, and of course to you both for having such a big role in it happening and your channel overall!
Your interaction with your mom is so cute with her "cutting" remark at 1:26 and how it kept going from there made it fun to watch! I would like to see her come back and make her croquettes. Also, I grew up in Guam and lived in Hawaii for a few years. This is my first time watching your videos and from the list, I see I will have to make some time to watch a lot more!
+Emily Neher aww thank you so much! You know, Guam is one place I've been wanting to visit for some time. I am particularly intrigued by the Chamorro cuisine. Thanks so much and hope you continue to enjoy our videos!
Omgahhh, I love how easy this was. I eyeballed the teriyaki sauce too and I didnt even bother to taste my sauce until the whole shebang was done and it came out perfect. Only thing I did differently was added furikake and a bit of vinegar to my rice mixture before shaping it. And, omg, mother is darling. I love her. You should do more videos with her! She's a hit! I love her style!
Wow my mother in law is super gorgeous. Sorry I meant your mom is gorgeous. And I'm picking your recipe to make my first spam musubis. I buy them all the time so think it's time to learn how to make them on my own. Thanks for this video love from San Diego, California.
when we don't have a mold available. we line plastic wrap in the spam can and add the rice. press down and pull out the plastic wrap. . then the rice and the spam stay the same size. . .just an idea.
First time watching your videos. Your mom is adorable. Enjoy the precious moments cooking with her. Her funny comments put a smile on my face. Thanks so much for posting!!

TabiEats is there another way to marinate the spam I'm a teen and I want to learn this for my aunt when i visit her back in Japan can't you just marinate it with teriyaki sauce and just that?

Love to you as you experience this loss. She remains in you and, thus, never disappears completely.
I had a mom too, but she wasn't Japanese. She hated the Japanese, because she was WW2 generation. Is that the same? I miss my mom too.
I like how this mom is all about the shortcuts. A person after my own heart
