You could see the writing on the wall 2-3 years ago. Something very dystopian about a dying casino. Seeing empty gaming tables, dealers just waiting for a customer, empty slots.......etc
The property is 47 years old. It’s tired. Buffalo Bills was closed duing COVID and only recently opened back up. It has almost double the rooms and was built in 1994. They are probably redirecting resources to Buffalo Bills and Primmadonna. Honestly I’m surprised State Line has lasted so long. With modern cars you no longer need a pit stop from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Used to be in a VW Bus with no air conditioning you needed to top off on water for the radiator and to cool off inside the resort after braving the stretch through the Mojave.
@@remylopez4821 '83-90 were watercooled but otherwise the old VW formula. A/C was optional but I can't imagine any were shipped to the Southwest without it that late.
True. I can drive from St. George, UT to LA on a full tank of gas with the AC on. I think the owner of Whiskey Pete's might consider converting the hotel rooms into Studio condos they would easily sell for $200,000 each to local workers at the prison, other casinos, the mines or the solar farm
I was there at the state kine 2 days ago. Primm is also closing for renovation. They were still open with only few staff working. They directed us to Buffalo Bill.
I stayed at Whiskey Pete's many times on my motorcycle travels Mostly as a stop between home in Los Angeles and riding in Utah, and other western states I hate to see the place closed.
Same with cruise casinos. While they have the same payback as Vegas, comps are easier to get and more enticing such as week long cruises around the world.
Too bad they couldn't go back to coin payout slot machines and reasonable priced coffee shops. Without coins dropping casinos have all the excitement of a morgue these days.
I've been to Whiskey Pete's several times way back in the 1970s and 2010's era. Very sorry to see it go. This now means no stopping (for me) between Barstow and a hotel in Las Vegas.
The big tower at Whiskey Pete's has been closed since before I started working there in 2015. I had worked down there for 3 years. Only the North and South wings were open when I worked there for those 3 years and those were the most expensive rooms in all of Primm because they had remodeled them. I don't know when the tower actually closed.
As a truck driver I’ve been there a few times and I just went through there Thursday the 19th but didn’t notice anything because I was rushing for my delivery in Las Vegas to Coca Cola.
Its temporarily closed for renovations. A lot of other news sources indicate this as well plus with people being redirected to Buffalo bills it gives them the perfect opportunity to begin renovations. If im correct Primm resort is currently being renovated as well unless its already open. But with whiskey petes being renovated it brings it in line with the renovations done with buffalo bills. Also it wouldn't be strategically wise to shut down a casino thats next to an Arena
Ever since they changed the theme from Western ( Whiskey Pete's) to a STUPID CASTLE , it's been going downhill. Who the heck thought THAT was a good idea ??????
Sad.. I remember my dad hitting 1000 bux on Keno during a breakfast on Sunday headed home. Bought us all shoes at the outlets. RIP Dad and the Primm landmarks with the Monorail
Aww not Whiskey Pete's. That's where we always stopped on our way back to LA from Las Vegas. It was the last Casino to gamble the couple of bucks i had left. It was on the right side of the freeway going home so very convenient and it had the Bonnie and Clyde car.
I was there many years ago to use the restroom and then headed right back out the door to drive to Vegas. I never understood why people would stay there.
the end of an era. went there and stayed there when i was kid in the early 90’s and early 2000’s. alway’s was a place to stop by whenever going to or leaving LV
I remember staying there when a CDL driver could get a room Sunday-Thursday nights for $19! Free drinks if you were gambling and the food was pretty good and fairly priced.
When I was growing up, Whiskey Petes use to be my parents last stop to win some money before going home. Unfortunately, it was the last stop to empty their pockets too. 😂😂😂
In the 1980's I was on a Vegas-bound bus that stopped there for an hour. The tower had not yet been built. I remember all the seniors playing at the machines and was told several turn-around busses came there from LA is it was closer, and quicker than driving to Vegas. I have since stayed there many times on my way back from kayaking Black Canyon.
Worked there for a brief stint. It was too far of a commute from my place in Vegas. There was a shuttle, but they contracted out the drivers to an outside company. Not too long after that the shuttles crashed with workers on board
I can remember driving by Whiskey Pete's when it was just a small casino without the tower. This was long before Buffalo Bill's and Primm Valley Resort (Primadonna's). Whiskey Pete's was also a great place to stop for breakfast when heading out of LV to LA a long time ago. You could get a steak and eggs breakfast for under 5 bucks. We also sometimes did the "slow crawl" back home. We'd leave LV, stop at Nevada Landing and Whiskey Pete's for a few hands of Black Jack, get gas, and head for home.
This makes me sad. My family and i have stayed at all these hotels. We saw the Bonnie and Clyde car numerous times. At Primm Valley Resort, which was a nice hotel, you could ride the escalator down and go to the Outlet mall. The mall had some really good deals. I loved to shop at the various designer stores, also because Nevada had cheaper sales tax. It was pretty at night, when the casinos were all lit up. My family and i will miss going there. An unfortunate sign of the times we are living in.
WP brings me back great memories of going with my grandparents to las vegas in the 80’s. we use to stop there because grandpa had the urge to play some slot machines as soon as we passed state line, he couldnt wait 😂. I miss my grandparents 😢 thank you and so long whiskey petes
Whiskey Pete was a real person. He was a crazy old coot that ran a service station that was right there where the drive comes into the property. It was probably in the late 70s or early 80s I would stop at whiskey Pete's for diesel fuel and food. This was before the giant hotel casino. It was an old small establishment with a dirt parking lot. The diesel pumps were located right in front of the main building. Inside was a little café with the casino just off to one side. There were no walls or dividers between the Cafe and the small casino. There was a really cool old western style wood bar that was opposite the Cafe and basically was part of the casino. I'm not sure if there was motel accommodations but I think there was upstairs. The place was like something out of an old western movie, except for the big rigs parked out front. Then, maybe mid 80s the old place was gone and a brand new gigantic hotel and casino took its place. Diesel was located about a half mile from the tourists down by the Interstate.
Was just in Primm today, stopped to take a look around... an employee at Buffalo Bills said Whiskey Pete is only closed temporarily. Renovations, apparently.
It’s sad I have seen Primm Valley just getting worst. By the way it was my first casino I ever went into my mother told me on our way to Las Vegas from Southern California that was 36 years ago good memories stopping by there. RIP
Maybe some savvy investor will step in and turn Whiskey Pete's hotel rooms into luxury apartments. Residents would have everything they need; on-site restaurants, laundry, a gym, swimming pool, a bar. And they would only be a quick 30 minute drive outside of Vegas, AWAY from all the madness. Residents HERE would get special rental rates for Las Vegas residents (and even BETTER for casino employee's). It's a WIN-WIN for everybody.
It sounds like Primm is dying. Closed or empty hotels and casinos, and a dead mall. I wondered how they even got people to work out there for low-paid service jobs, when there are plenty of them in Vegas.

The Nevada casino death spiral is partially caused by nationwide Indian casinos who offer a higher payback while being closer to home.
