I have heard it said many times; "Palatka Feels like St Augustine, just 20 years ago". If you are looking for Old Florida Charm and a little bit more of a Rural feel you are going to want to check out Palatka Florida. If you are considering moving to Florida, I would definitely consider what life could be like in Palatka.

Fishing in the St. Johns is beyond expectation, it is brackish so virtually all ocean fish and freshwater fish are there. I loved the fishing!
I've yet to do it but I know plenty of people who love going out there.
If you are an outdoorsman Palatka has a ton to offer
40 min to St Augustine. We got no hurricances here and almost no flooding, whereas St Augustine is always flooded and traffic is a nightmare.

Palatka has some benefits compared with St. Augustine less people and lots of history as well. I rode my bike from St. Augustine to Palatka just a few days ago and visited Ravine Gardens. Great place to visit, I got video too. 👍

I was just there, thinking St Augustine would be the more mystical city. Never heard of Patalaka but I FELT the energy shift immediately when I went through it. I stopped on my way back because it had a cool vibe. Cool little town!

Before you buy meet your potential neighbors and do a clerk of court records search. It will reveal their true character. Driving record, lawsuit’s, etc. A lot of good old boy corruption plus a lot of resentment towards newcomers.
I always tell people to walk the neighborhood and get familiar. I appreciate the advice
When a empty property is offered on the open market you can bet the existing adjacent owners have their heart set on owning it. Problem is they won’t pay the asking price. When an outsider buys it. They can’t stand it and roll out the unwelcome mat. For me it was a 15 year constant battle. They are finally gone. I’m still here and I never backed down. But they turned our dream into a nightmare.
Interlachen has the cheapest non HOA land in the USA. Now I live in Interlachen. Property crime can be an issue here but if you do not flaunt wealth you will not be a target.
Do you enjoy living there? Everything I drive through I think its pretty nice
I enjoy it because my lot is surrounded by woods and no one wants to live here so those surrounding lots will remain vacant. I was able to get seclusion for very little money. I doubt many would like it here especially women. Poverty seems to be an issue here but I never found that alone to be a problem. There seems to be an active drug trade here but I am not involved in it. I am only in interlachen because you can get quarter acre lots for under $5000 and I do not keep high value items. Everything I own of value involves gardening and the neighborhood thrives do not seem interested in such things. Putnam county allows tiny houses which gives me extra room to grow food. I search many states for a cheap place to survival garden. Interlachen seems to be a fit for me. Plenty of fishing spots with in walking distance. Plenty of rabbits to eat. A lot of wild blueberries and blackberries. Even a rare red blueberry that I am digging up and potting up to donate to local nurseries in exchange for other food plants. I potted up dozens just from clearing land for a driveway. Interlachen suits me but it’s not for everyone.

What was your criteria when buying?
I moved from the Chattanooga suburbs of NW Georgia right on the Tenn line. Loved it there and if I found land cheap enough I would have stayed. I ended up in interlachen because it had my one main criteria, land I could buy with cash. (Under $5000). Small criteria.. I need to be able to garden the land and have enough privacy so no one can tell how large my garden really is. Interlachen has so many vacant lots that it’s easy to find something secluded. Sure anyone could buy and develop around me but I have time to get privacy trees/vines up and growing

Great video. I was born in Jacksonville and grew up in rural parts of the state like Palatka and Starke. Palatka has been left behind by the rest of the area, but I definitely think its on the way up. Another 10 years and it could be as expensive as the rest of the area. Fifteen, years ago, no one thought St. Johns county would be as expensive as it is right now. Even a development like Nocatee, was less than half the price it is now, just 5 years ago. Now would be the time to buy something in Palatka, I mean where else are you going to get waterfront property at those prices, anywhere near the beach?
Florida has changed a lot in these last couple years. It's pretty crazy.
I agree. I think Palatka is one of the few places that has almost remained untouched.
Though because if the cost of living near the beach I think it has huge potential.
I was just looking at Palatka by the golf course. Beautiful new build with a very spacious yard. The school system, the lack of businesses, and the fact of living near a golf course may be affected by sprays and dusts blown from the golf course onto my property and into our home. The pesticides they use on the turf can run off into the surface waters or get down into groundwater, which can then expose people to contaminated drinking water. That can possibly cause cancer. So it's definitely a lot to consider. I'm in Duval County. I was hoping to move to st John's county but like you said the houses are too close and too expensive. I'm also interested in Nassau County and possibly Clay County but again they are too expensive as well. So I'm at a crossroad. It's even expensive to live in less desirable neighborhoods in the sense of you're not getting much of anything but depression when you walk out of your door. My husband and I qualify to be in a really nice neighborhood but who wants to pay a $$2200 and mortgage after coming out of a pandemic. I'm usually optimistic and more faith driven but it's scary for me living in uncertain times. Even with the guaranteed income we have that supplement our wages. I don't want to over extend ourselves God forbid we lose our jobs. I came too far to lose what I earned. It's a catch 22.

Palatka is kind of on the upswing(ish) but it's likely to get better because of the simple amount of spillover headed its way. It' has decent shopping, highway access, etc. and some of it is charming but some bits are a bit grubby. It could go either way here but I am betting it will start going up just maybe not overnight.
I agree. Many of my friends and others are choosing Palatka for the lifestyle it offers.
Once you add the first coast expressway just north of it, I think you will see massive growth compartative to today
I get the impression he's having a really hard time coming up with good things to say about my town. I've lived here my entire life and ...that checks out. Lol. There's nothing here, the schools are terrible, crime is high, and there's nothing to do here. lol. It's cheap to live here because the county is broke and nobody wants to live here. Lol. I really do appreciate the effort, though, bud. You're out there hustling and it's admirable.

These comments are so odd to me. I live in a very different county than what these people are commenting about. I’ve lived on the Palatka Golf Course and enjoyed my time there, with no issues. I now live in East Palatka and absolutely love it. I really wouldn’t want to raise my children anywhere else. The schools are what you make of them. If you are a problem you will have problems; if you are interested in education you will get an education.
I think you nailed it! I live in a neighborhood now where I've literally had people tell me "they will rob the wheels off your truck". Never had a problem. Know all my neighbors

You touched on taxes but failed to mention the most important thing people are concerned with when thinking of moving to Florida - property insurance. That should have been your first subject.
I have a ton of other videos where I cover this. Aside from that really only homes on the water or flood zones are seeing their premiums skyrocket.
The St Johns River is not tidal so it's not as bad as the ocean or intracoastal

A sidewalk works for me unless it's totally unbikable.
It's full of debris. Stay in the pedestrian lane.
I prefer Hallandale beach Florida beautiful city good beaches and restaurants and growing businesses and communities, and good night life.❤🇺🇸

Extremely expensive, St Augustine is cheap compared to the Hallandale area and has a lot less traffic.

Ok, now for a dose of reality from someone that is very familiar with both locations. Per capita, Putnam county (which is where Palatka is located) has one of the highest crime rates in the state. It's redneck heaven, with rebel flags and meth heads everywhere you go. We're talking about the cellar dwellers of society. St Augustine is overpriced and overcrowded, due to all of the northerners that are moving there in droves over the last few years. Imagine a relatively small town with the traffic of New York City. And unless you're wealthy, don't even bother trying to buy a house there, or even rent an apartment.
You are just so wrong on all of this. Obviously you haven't lived in either Palatka or NYC.
One of my best friends lives in Palataka with his wife and daughter; loves it.
My sister lives in Palatka with her husband and daughter; loves it.
Are there problems? Yes. But if you watch the video I pretty much outline that.
The traffic in St Augustine is worse than it was; but it is in no way like NYC. I was born in Brooklyn and lived in the city for years. Your comparison is just wrong.

Facts don't lie; look up the places with the highest crime rate in Florida, and Palatka is at or close to the top. Mud trucks, hillbillies, drugs and violence are everywhere in Palatka. But you're an "expert", right? Oh, and how long did YOU live in Palatka?

Yeah,the traffic is HORRIFIC! We just don’t have the infrastructure for all the building… slapping up these ugly shitshacks and charge and a half $1 million dollars!!! Or approx 3,000 to rent! These builders are totally destroying this little town, thanks to National Geographic putting us on the map regarding nights of lights. I think it has gone downhill from there!!! I worked at a bed-and-breakfast downtown, and I remember some guests coming back, saying that they waited in line for four hours to get on a trolley tour of the city! I’ll need to get on the trolley and sit in traffic😂😂😂

Palatka does have a groovy little vibe…… but I’m not sure the clientele that lives out there is gonna be interested in hanging out at any brewery, drinking high priced IPAs?! East Palatka is a bad area and the P.D. is woefully inadequately trained and underfunded. The drug trade is expanding and violence is growing.
