I really wish he would have showed parts of Palatka that are not so bad like the thriving river front, or the beautiful ravines. He only highlights 10% of Palatka Florida. If you would like to come back my wife and I would love to show you around. This goes out to any one else who does not live in my home town, please don’t come to Palatka and misrepresent this growing town. Is Palatka the best place in the world? No but it is not the worst place in Florida ether.

I encountered some positive, beautiful parts of Palatka what I put in the first vlog before this one. For this vlog, my main focus was on depicting the true condition of the area. Highlighting affluent and middle-class neighborhoods feels disingenuous when many citizens are living in the conditions I showcased in this video. If I'm ever back in the area, I will take you up on your offer. Thanks for watching and addressing how you feel.

Same (4yrs ago). Lived in STA for 16yrs. Sadly it became too crowded & way OVER-developed. Decided to stop throwing our money away on RISING rent's & bought a cute little 3br house in a DECENT neighborhood in Palatka (not the one's he's depicting HERE. LOL!) right before covid hit for only $99K !!! Talk about in the nick of time. It was an affordable & viable option for "us" & we like it here & it's an EASY commute (only 25-30 mins) to St. Augustine for work & add another 10 mins to the beaches. We have plenty of shopping conveniences & new restaurant/cafés opening up all the time. The historic riverfront area is also slowly revitalizing & the beautiful views & breezes off the St. Johns river don't make the area feel "landlocked" like other Florida inland communities. It's actually a great location for it's easy proximity to nearby surrounding city's as well. We LIKE the slower pace & can easily find excitement or event's etc within a short easy drive. We also have our own great annual Festival's right here as well. It's a REFRESHING change when you're originally a SOUTH FLA Native (Boca Raton) & we're really glad we found it & are grateful to be here ❤

Good for you it sounds like you made the right move !

Nice video and great video quality. After Georgia Pacific was sold to the Koch Brothers, things went down hill fast for Putnam County. Everyone had a family member, relative, or friend that worked at the mill. Some of our most profitable years in Palatka were pre-2005 before GP was sold. The next ten years were spent trying to survive and at times very dire. Palatka saw a spurt of growth around 2016-2019, and we had an opportunity to sell our business and we got out. We miss the laid back atmosphere and simpler times we had in Palatka. That area has always been in decline but seems to have gotten worse than I remember it 25 years ago, thanks for the memories Tim J.

People make the place either beautiful or ugly. The government plays a role here too by sending some kind of people to this area of Florida for some reason. Let’s make it a nice place to live and help each other in the making.

The problem with Palatka is the smell and bad air. The Pulp Mill pumps tons of sulphur dioxide in the air from processing trees to paper. Every time I pass through Palatka, I have a disturbing coughing episode.

I live not too far from Palatka, I visit the city every day, but I rarely visit the north side of town, which is where everything sucks, the north side does not have much stuff in the area to sustain itself properly, there are a decent amount of abandoned buildings on the north side, and its unfortunate to see how bad things got for the north side, but the south historic district is really nice
I love this town, I truly do, but what I hate is how bad the upkeep is for the north side, and how bad people struggle in the north side.

Reading the locals' comments is quite intense. Some people ask why he focuses only on the abandoned aspects. It's not difficult to see: if you have issues with the city, then work on fixing them, because there are plenty. Also, do you even read his channel description and what it's about? This is the type of content he produces.

I understand that people like to defend their city, and I get that. However, they should be raising concerns at city hall and pressing the mayor to address these issues. Instead of getting upset because their city is exposed, saying "not all of the city looks like this" or "you didn't go here or there," they should focus on demanding improvements. I'm here to explore the abandoned and historical areas, not the wealthy neighborhoods that often overlook the struggles of the poorer communities. Thanks for your support!

So far, you’re not showing all of Palatka Florida, USA. The parts you are showing are in need of repair. Yet you are missing this weekend that blue crab festival and that is a moneymaker for the city. You seem more concerned about what is abandoned or in disrepair. All cities have this type of area where things need to be fixed or they need to be sold or they need to be torn down to make away for something better. I think the issue here would be for you to be proactive and start to help or contact the mayor of Polacca and find out what you could do to help. I have lived here since the 1980s and I moved up from South Florida. True it was a culture shock when I first got here. I learned to adapt. I think most people stay here because of family. God bless and take care! Palatka is still growing. But if you’re only going to point out the bad things about it, I don’t even see the reason why you are videoing this portion of Palatka.

    • @TIMJMEANSBUSINESS

I didn't come here to record a festival to give the event planners "FREE PROMOTIONS." My purpose was to document abandoned areas, and Palatka is full of them. Not all cities look like Palatka. I live in Melbourne and Fort Lauderdale, which are quite different. In my cities, abandoned buildings are rare, and if they exist, they're quickly bought and renovated.
Palatka has many abandoned buildings, even in the downtown area. Those who live in the better parts of Palatka should be more disappointed in their local government than in someone who films the city's conditions. I don't live there, so it's not my responsibility to reach out to your mayor-it's yours. It's an issue what should be addressed at you guys city council meetings. It's surprising how quickly people comment that this isn't representative of all of Palatka. However, as I explore, it seems to represent a significant part of the city. Thanks for watching.

Considering I don’t live in the city of Palatka Florida, I can understand, whereas people who do live in the town should contact the city commissioner. I live in the county., Putnam County. Most people do nowadays. My area is considered unincorporated. There are many homes out here and maybe one or two convenience stores. It’s funny though! I just have to drive down the road cross through the intersection and it’s considered city of Palatka .
