    things you need to adjust/keep in mind if you want to play this in factorio 1.0:
    the blueprint you place down to get everything started is number 20 in the book. not number 1.
    all blueprints will need to be grid snapped with the absolute reference point being in the middle of the 13x9 area
    have exactly 6 logistic robots in the roboport (total number of logistic robots somehow sends as "W" signal which is the trigger for the width of the deconstruction planner).
    if you don't adjust the first point from above the second step will be off centered, but it doesn't require too much work to fix.
    if you have too many logistic robots inside the roboport/network, everything in that 9 tile high area will be deconstructed as wide as you have logistic robots (if you put a stack in there a 9x50 area from your base will be gone), if you put less than 6 in there not enough stuff will be removed to place the next step of the factory.
    you could also go ahead and change the network configuration on the roboport on every single blueprint in the book to not send that signal on "W"

      I used to worry about ratios too, but then I stopped caring. It is ok to overproduce some items especially if they are cheap. An extra gear assembler or two might not result in a perfect ratio but it works fine. I just figure how much I need as an output, work my way backwards and if in doubt put in a few extra, problem solved.

    I wonder, how does the rocket rate *per area* of this compare to other impressive bases?

    • @MrRyanroberson1
      @MrRyanroberson1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The area demands are 13x9 + belts and pipes + miners and oil extractors. For minimum possible area you could set a defined area with full chests of each ore (including barrels) and increase the time the machine takes, but then the whole challenge changes.

    • @MCLooyverse
      @MCLooyverse 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MrRyanroberson1 What I wonder is if mega bases are more efficient than this. So, they may have, I dunno, 1000 times the area, but if they launch 10000 more rockets per time, then overall it's more efficient (that is, it's better than just putting down 1000x of the mini base) with a Rocket Rate per Area that is 10 times greater.

    • @MrRyanroberson1
      @MrRyanroberson1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MCLooyverse you could prove what a theoretically infinite base can achieve per area by calculating the crafting rate per area of each step along the way, and simply looking at the rocket's intermediary products. For a gear that would look like: x ore/second /(9 tiles for a miner), y iron/ore/second/(4 tiles for a furnace), and z gears/iron/second/(9 tiles for a crafter). It gets complicated very fast but i might be able to whip up a program to ckmpute it in a month or so

    • @MCLooyverse
      @MCLooyverse 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrRyanroberson1 It gets even more difficult when you consider space taken for transportation of items.

    • @chezeus1672
      @chezeus1672 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      let's assume a perfectly optimized bot-based (=no space for transport) megabase where every machine runs 24/7 and is optimally beaconed up to save space.
      this base doesn't even compare to that: it misses out on beacons, and every time the recipe changes, the factory isn't producing anything, which means it doesn't make use of its 13x9 area all of the time.
      also, it runs on coal, which takes up quite a large percentage of the available space; nuclear would take up a smaller area compared to the rest of the base.
      ~4000 of these would be similar to a 1k spm megabase in a 684x684 area. this base here (the first one google found where the author tells us its size) imgur.com/gallery/tdMzk29#VnyGeAH is missing smelters and a power supply, but it's also only 14x14 chunks =448x448, or ~43% of the space lots of mini-bases would need for the same output. it's belt-based and has a ton of empty space, so unless you compare it to a solar-powered megabase, it's probably hard to find one with *less* science per minute per area than this minibase.
      it's still quite impressive though, just not for its production speed ;)

      unfortunately, that is most likely not going to happen, as the silo is 9x9, and the roboport is 4x4, so it needs at least the 13x9 space, and the reason he was able to compress it down from 14x9 was because the silo got changed from 10x9 to 9x9. So unless we get a small roboport-like thing, it's going to stay like it is.

    Can you build a 40x40 grid of those little bases for ~1 rocket per minute?

    • @irrelevant_noob
      @irrelevant_noob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically yes, as long as you fully feed them... And that'd be an average speed, since if you're not careful to stagger their start-up time you could end up with 1600 rockets all firing as a batch in a few minutes, then 30 hours of grind for the next batch. ;-)

    since all the resources are brought in from out side do you really need to have power production inside the area and not just bring that in as well since its just a 'resource'.. i mean all the other resources use power to be brought in but they use separate power networks to generate.

      Eh, he does siphon some of the water for oil cracking so it somewhat justifies it being there. Besides, the storage takes up space but clearly leaves an unnecessary void below, so might as well fill it with something

      The problem isn't that there is power production inside, it is that it is a completely isolated system when it comes to power. Besides that though if he didn't have the power then there would be space for another assembler or 2. Would speed up production I am sure. There are also times when the power draw is more than what can be generated so that slows down production. The rocket silo alone takes 4mw and the single turbine makes 1.8mw and with external power you could use all speed/productivity instead of using efficiency modules like in the video, it would overall speed up the entire process by quite some margin just from having machines run at full power, let alone using the extra space for more assemblers etc..
