TBH the game itself would need to be optimized before that would make a difference. I have an overclocked, watercooled PC and I run into low FPS/UPS sometimes while factorio only taking up 30% CPU. i specifically built my computer for single-threaded performance, and it doesn't seem to help that much :(
@JaysonSR thats different kind of optimization we are talking about. He is talking about factorio not using resources available. You are talking more about games using resources inefficiently. Both are correct things to talk about.

Sit down for a while and let me regale you with a short tale. Twas the summer of '19, and I had an internship, and at that internship I watched a lot, and I mean a LOT of Factorio gameplay. Towards the end of the summer, I had acquired enough funds from said internship where I watched Factorio vidoes to do something I never do: buy something nice for myself. I decided that the one thing I really wanted was a new, beastly gaming laptop, since I have been gaming on potato graphics for my whole life and I got sick of it. I picked one out and bought it. This is the most expensive thing I have ever bought for myself, cost a whole paycheck and then some but it was worth it. Now, I have a tradition for my computers: I name them after awesome weapons. My last computer was named Mjolnir, and the one before that was Excalibur. But this one, being the first ever brand new, top-of-the-line, as beast-mode as a laptop can get without being ridiculous, I knew that fantasy weapons simply wouldn't do. I needed something real, something that caused men to quake in their boots and tremble at its coming. I searched far and wide for a suitable weapon, and after hours of searching I rediscovered the artillery train with the perfect name: the Schwerer Gustav. German for "Heavy Gustav", it was a railway cannon used by the Wehrmacht, and the largest gun ever used in combat. It seems like divine providence that I would be watching this, a video about an enormous artillery train named Heavy Gustav in Factorio, on my laptop named the Schwerer Gustav that I bought with money from a job where I spent all my downtime watching Factorio videos. Keep dropping the lead rain on those bugs, Tidy Kiwi.

@@Edmar_Thorn Depending on how long it took you to notice the problem it might be just easier to reload than attempt to reverse through who knows how many intersections. I think the default auto save is 10 minutes so you shouldn't be losing hours or work by just reloading.
Personally, I find Factorio terrifying, and this is why. Xenomorphs in Alien Isolation? Yawn, please. Essentially self replicating and self supporting base than spans miles upon miles with not a tree or plant in sight? That is the stuff of nightmares for me.

I have a, MUCH, smaller train I use for this job, haha. I send four artillery cannons to fire on the new regions I want to claim. My outer wall has cannons on it already, but by sending the train deep into new territory, I can clear it out. Still, my cannons don’t fire nearly as far as yours do..

Once an oil convoy came through town. Thing must’ve been ten miles long. The whole town pretty much shut down as there’s less than ten points in the town that go over or under the rail line. Best part was when I was at a rail crossing and pretty much blocked in. After a literal hour the motorists all got out and had a party. That convoy was still smaller than this fucking thing.

I'm imagining computers of the future being able to run this no problem at 120fps/120ups. And it's a beautiful thing.
If we could figure out a way to create graphene reliably en masse then we could increase our computers' capabilities tenfold, if not more.
