12:47 Steve, I have watched all of your videos and often wondered why your plans don't call for a slightly larger rough opening to allow for the insulated Zip-R to fully wrap around and over the framing. It seems to me that would provide even better continuity with the exterior insulation and that it would reduce the thermal bridge from the window to the surrounding framework. I really enjoy seeing your plans and excellent detailed drawings. Thanks for sharing. 😁👍
I just recently started watching your videos, they are all great, and informative. Watched you with Tim Uhler. Happy new year to you and your family. Thankyou.👍👍
Steve, love the plans, but I think for the non-architects watching, I'd recommend you using more in-shot examples like that found @7:52 which illustrate some of the plan details. Also, I'm wondering how this window design changes with the use of full thickness limestone surround??
Helpful video, thanks Steve. Why use a 1x3 instead of a high psi rated polyiso? It would eliminate the thermal bridge. As it looks now, the 1x3 is the worst thermal part of the window assembly at R2.5 given R7 window, R14.5 rough opening and R32 cavity.
Great video thank you. What can be done for bug control when the window is tilted? I don't think I'd be comortable as-is, letting in many house flies and wasps. It seems to me that any screen would be cumbersome in that window, and would have to cover the entire surface to be effective, which isn't an ideal solution.
When will American door and window manufacturers meet the quality and energy efficiency of European manufacturers.? It is time that all homes being built come with quality windows and doors.
Amen.... Of all the improvements you can make to your home's construction, great windows and doors (European triple glazed) is the best bang for your buck.
I had the same question, did a Google search for upvc. The “U” stands for unplasticized - it doesn’t contain plasticizers. Those are chemicals that make the material more flexible. You don’t need or want that in a window frame. UPVC is somewhat more durable than PVC.
What I’ve heard about European-style windows is that, while European houses typically don’t have screens on the windows, they are available as optional add-ons to that style of window.

I love the big red details and that awesome Bevel Siding with the stretch tape. Down & out baby!
Thanks steve! Been waiting for this.. Lets see how all the siding comes together, I’m building something similar using vinyl siding
Thank you Steve!

Great video Steve.
What sealing treatment did the window jambs and head receive? Sealed with foam/sealant and then taped with Siga tape similar to the sill?
Alpin windows are made in Colorado and are available in R-10 (U 0.1). Many window manufacturers make a R-5 (U 0.2) version of their product line.
Helpful video, thanks Steve.

They look fantastic with the grids. Little doubt they are superior.

The screen is usually on the outside of your window and shouldn’t impede the tilt of your window since they tilt inward.
Whose your windows supplier? Thank you, happy new year!
What product is used for the “seated tape / tape seal?”
Those metal brackets are a thing of the past, you can use special window frame anchor screws these days.
Will the frame screws work with a stationary window?
@@Stangeconstruction In that case, you can work with a subframe or buck.
the bracket sides into a track? no holes needed in the frame? right
@@donnafedorak2499 Yes, but those brackets acts as a cold bridge...
Yes there are "Turbo Screws" they are not new, been around for awhile, this builder preffered the brackets

@@jonathanwiebe7222 Triple glaze should be more common.
I'm sure this is a dumb question, but what's the difference between UPVC and crappy ol' vinyl?
He doesn't know

Do these windows come with a screen

@ nice
I have screens on mine, they are great and sturdy.
