Thank you for your insights. I’m from the United States. I learned Spanish from the ages of 14-18 years old. I’m in my 50s now and because I’ve been intentional about keeping the language relevant in my life, I can still hold my own in conversation and reading. And I could understand 98% of what you said because you speak at a slower pace & use nice facial expressions.
French is next on my list after I learn Spanish! I took classes in both languages in high school and college. I'm learning more in a week or two of watching your videos than I ever did in Spanish classes. Thank you!

Is French the only language that you didn't go live in the country for a while to learn? For example, like you did for Japanese and Thai? Also, did you crosstalk or Skype while learning French? Or just listening to audio, movies and video?
I didn't really know about Crosstalk when I learned French. I mostly learned by watching movies, series, and listening to audiobooks, and later by reading. It's a lot easier for me because I already know Spanish and Catalan. I only learned Japanese for 6 months before going to live in Japan, and I started learning Thai right after moving to Thailand, even though I did keep myself from speaking for the first 3 years, so I didn't actively try to talk to people since I wanted to know first if the Thai school by itself would work well.

Yeah, it definitely took me less time to learn than Japanese or Thai. The thing with French for me is that it's very easy to understand because of the cognates, but not so easy to speak. With Japanese for example, once I got to the point I could understand a movie I had no problem talking about any topic. With French, I can understand a movie very well but I still have a harder time speaking than with Japanese. I think it's because of the similarity with Spanish/Catalan. Cognates help you understand even if you don't know those words well yet, but to be able to speak you actually need to know them well.
@@DreamingSpanish makes sense. Now that you mention it, I realized something similar.
