Trucker here I gotta clarify that an interstate is not a free way it’s actually a trail of encrusted dirt that was made in the mezazoic period by the giant arthropod’s chugging and crawling on through what once was North America. It’s a pretty common misconception and you’d never catch me making such a frivolous mistake as a seasoned master of highways but you did okay for your first try
Trucker here. I gotta clarify couple things. All interstates are freeways. They are just federally funded. Every freeway you drive on with that blue shield is an interstate. Often time yes states will only put in state funded freeways in cities but arent exclusive to cities. As far as thr 55 on highways thats more of an east coast thing. When you get out west of the missouri river highways are usually somewhere between 60-70 mph depending on the state.
So... the Pennsylvania turnpike, aka I-76, literally the most expensive road to travel in America.... is a FREEway?? No. By definition, a freeway is a highway with no toll. Not sure where you are a trucker, but clearly not in the Northeast or Midwest.
Relatively certain that highways are the smaller version of freeways, which have to have at least 2 lanes in any given direction. Highways also can have intersections and stop lights. Where it gets confusing is that Interstates are a type of highway that is basically federally funded, it doesn’t even have to cross state lines BUT 99% of interstate highways are freeways.. which is to say they have been widened to have at least 2 lanes in any given direction.
@@margefoyle6796 "FREEWAY" is not in referance to potential cost of tolls. Freeways do have tolls thoughout the country, starting as far west as Kansas. A freeway is a road devoid of inersections and use on and off ramps to enter and exit the road.

I’m from Finland and we have expressways [🛣️], two-lane expressways [🚘] and other regular roads. The expressrways and two-lane expressways are marked with green color and have their specific rules such as no crossing. They are mostly in Southern Finland and many other long roads in the countryside are like highways. We have some freeways in like in Helsinki region like half circular roads going around Helsinki called Ring I (inner, city), Ring II (not actually ring shaped, goes in Espoo (city west side of Helsinki)) and Ring III (outer, metropolitan) (goes close to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and ends to Vuosaari cargo port). Regular roads are marked with blue, local roads with white, tourist attractions with brown, village sites with black and construction sites with yellow. Finnish National roads are classified as longer highways (”Valtatie”, numbered 1-29, red label), shorter highways (”Kantatie”, numbered 40-98, yellow label), regional roads (”Seututie”, numbered 100-970, white label) and connecting roads (”Yhdystie”, numbered 1000-9999? (four numbers), blue label). Some highways have also pan-European numbering (road E[?], green label). Åland Islands have their independent highway numbers 1-4, a little like Hawaii in USA which has own interstate numbers like H1, H2 and H3.
This video was both very interesting (especially as a non-American that wants to do a big road trip through the US at some point in the future) and because of your voice and way of talking deeply relaxing and soothing. Kansan here... The DOT basically had 8 kids with names Jack, Jill, Josie, Jennifer, James, etc... and named their ugly middle child Randy. You'll see what I mean... I really don't understand why swapping the start/end points for highway/interstate nomenclature was necessary. The whole naming system is kind of nonsense. If we swap the increment directions, there will still be a point where the numbers cross, which defeats the purpose. In KS we have US highways 69, 75, and 77 in addition to I-70, and no one ever gets confused. If you skip numbers, you lose consistency. We have US54/56 which run east/west, and also US24 which is further north.. skipping 30s and 40s I guess because I-35 is already in Kansas? Now I can't predict what the highways will be, and I always thought that I-60 would run through Oklahoma... And it does, but it's a route and not an interstate. I-40 runs through Oklahoma though... How are we supposed to know where highways are without a map? You'll also notice that 75 is not an interstate, despite ending in 5, which defeats the entire purpose of interstate/highway names in the first place. The whole naming system is arbitrary and inconsistent. If the increment slopes were running the same direction, it would be much more consistent and force the DOT to make the names more clear. If the names aren't consistent from the get go, there's no point in making a naming system. It's like having 8 kids with J-names and then naming a random one in the middle a R-name. You sorta tried, but made a ridiculous decision that screwed the whole thing up. Fun fact, any 3-number highway is an interchange that connects two other highways. 135 links I-35 and I-40. 435 does a ring around Kansas City and connects 35 with 70. 475 does a ring around Topeka and connects 75 with I-35 and I-70.

This is the most random asmr video I've come across. And I wasn't looking for asmr. Random suggested. The algorithm is about to blow up this channels subscribers count. Watch...
Hmmmm. Some things don't seem correct here. The term freeway is a term that refers to either an interstate or US route that does not require a toll (toll road or turnpike). It is not a third category. Highways are main interconnecting roads. They are regular roads, can be two lane (one each way) or more. These connect towns. These can be county roads, state highways, or US routes. It's just a description of the type of road. It can also be free or toll, depending on the state. Separately... Interstates are a highway system mandated by president Eisenhower for defense purposes, as mentioned in the video. These are, as suggested, at least 4-lanes (2 each direction) in each direction. They are always referred to as freeways in the west, but in the rest of the country (where many roads are toll roads), that is not the case. Anyway, as mentioned, odd interstate numbers increase from west to east, and even ones do the same south to north. US routes are a much older system, numbered exactly opposite than interstates. They don't run as specifically North to South (think route 66 from LA to Chicago), but generally speaking they do. US Route 50 runs from Sacramento CA (used to be Oakland, but interstates came along and changed everything) to Arlington VA. US 1 starts in the Florida keys and heads north to Maine, though it hasn't been continuous in decades for reasons I don't know offhand. But US 101 runs continuously from San Diego to the Olympic peninsula west of Seattle.

“One of those roads that just goes around the city.” 😂 That’s funny. Thanks for watching. Driving near the Cotswolds in England was one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever done btw!! 😊
Obsessed w the scissors

Interesting right?! You learn something new everyday.
oooooooooooo fantastic channel 👍
Thank you!
i’ve driven on 95 so much bc i just got my own car & traveling between states for college & going home not knowing i was driving on the “highest” numbered interstate. woow
Well, if I said that you might double check that fact because people in the comments here are definitely saying I had stuff wrong. Whoops. Either way - thanks so much for watching and for leaving this lovely comment!
@@Nofrillsasmr we all make mistakes! we’re human :)
Clicked on this video on accident and it might be the best damn mistake I’ve made this month
Thanks!
okay wait, maine has a highway 1? california has a rather famous highway 1, aka the pacific coast highway. i didn’t know there was another one!
I gotta go study a map. I'm not sure anymore. lol Thanks for watching!!
55mph is max limit??!! That’s quite slow for major roads, (88km/h for any non-Americans wondering)
This is why Sammy Hagar sang “I can’t drive 55!!” and we all agree! 😎
"Was he just doing this to make extra money?"
Yes
British person here. In the UK Interstate + Highway + Freeway = Motorway. easy.
Thanks for watching!
This is the most random asmr video I've come across. And I wasn't looking for asmr. Random suggested. The algorithm is about to blow up this channels subscribers count. Watch...
Interesting. I hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Interesting. Everything I learned I learned from a 1/2 hour google session. Thank you for all your insights!
@@Nofrillsasmr regardless, very nice ASMR. Thank you!!
She was correct
Central reservation - bit in middle with grass on
I’ve never heard that! Thanks!!
@@Nofrillsasmr You're welcome :)
I5 becomes Canada 91 across the border, ends in mid-Vancouver and just dumps you into the city
I’m going to Vancouver soon! That has nothing to do with what you said, but I’m excited to go! 😊 Thanks for the comment.
@Nofrillsasmr It's a great city! Just avoid East Hastings. Granville Island is amazing

Yes, thank you! My brain has trouble bringing up words I know sometimes.
lol yeah never knew I been misspelling median my bad @elmonstro7852
Median, even more correct. lol
Omigosh! You just used some expensive sewing shears to cut that paper!
I believe you’re right. This is how I roll apparently. 😂 I tried out some others in todays video because of your comment!
I always found it funny how Hawaii had three interstates: H1, H2, and H3. They were built for defense purposes.
Medium or partition
Partition sounds fancy - I’m going with that!
I’m in the ‘soft spoken’ camp, whispering also sounds painfully forced too, which doesn’t lead to tingles. 🤓
I have a playlist with all soft-spoken to make them easier to find. Thanks for watching and commenting!
scooby doo more like :D
Damn what about expressways 😭
How about parkways? 😂
more vids on obscure topics like this please!!!!!!!
I try! Thanks for watching!!
The PA turnpike is so expensive and yet it’s in terrible condition
“The World’s Greatest Highway” is its name. Thanks for watching!
